Starpuck gives up on giving up!

Time to get serious.   Ok, really, time to find a way to get to the point where I never have to say 'time to get serious' again.   I have had success in the past getting healthy; getting to a good athletic weight, getting strong, eating clean, being awesome.   Something always derails me at some point, I slip, backslide, get stressed, get frustrated - something!   And then I start giving up.   No more giving up.  Naruto doesn't give up.   From now on , neither does Starpuck!!

Eating.   Things that worked?  Eating clean, in reasonable portions and exercising.   What didn't?  Counting calories, points, macros, denying certain foods.

How the hell do I grade this?   Simple.   Naruto loves eating, but he also works his butt off.   He eats enough to keep him fueled, but doesn't spend his sad, angry, emotional, bored moments eating more.  Bottom line, I know if I've had a sensible eating day or not.   So the target is to have only 1 non-sensible eat days per week.  Or, reverse that, 6 sensible days per week.   If I am mowing the lawn, running a 5k and playing hockey?  Guess what?  A milkshake isn't so crazy on that day.   Having one after Mcdonalds breakfast, tacos, chips, salsa and candy bars?   Different story.

GOAL #1 EAT SENSIBLE 6 DAYS PER WEEK

Honestly, exercise is the easy part.   Only difference is this time around there will be no 'I have to do this' or it 'must be this workout on this day'.   Just move.   Every day.   Except for one.  One day to rest and recoup.    Vary the workouts.  Hockey, running, boxing, strength training ... hell get some yoga in there because you're stiff as a board Starpuck.   But move and sweat 6 days a week.

GOAL #2 MOVE YOUR BODY 6 DAYS A WEEK

Lately, I've been finding myself more prone to bad moods, snapping on people, being grouchy and otherwise in a funk.   I don't like it.  I don't want to be that way.   I need to find a way to cool that rage-beast down inside of me.  (Not that I even know where it came from.)     I need to get back on a better path with my faith.   I've put church and study aside for other things just because it's summer.   Granted, sometimes I won't be able to make a Sunday service, but I need to get my nose into things that are working to fill up the tank of goodness, rather than just keep depleting it until I turn into a nine-tailed demon fox.

GOAL #3 CHURCH OR CHURCH ALTERNATIVE AT LEAST 1X A WEEK

Ok, there's a few more things to tack on here, but it will have To Be Continued ... I need to bolt!

I have something similar. Grouchy or funk. I don't like it either.

I've done "keeping calm" as a goal two challenges ago, and it kinda sorta worked but it's not addressing the root cause.

I need to do my own soul searching too.

Good luck with it. Wishing you the best.

I've been dealing with the same issue as both of you! People have been irritating me to no end and I find myself just unable to deal with it. Working out HARD really helps, leaves no excess dark matter to spill over onto others. Good luck!! Let me know if you find the secret ;)

Hiya Starpuck!

Rage beast is bad. I know cuz I've been dealing with mine too. Good luck squashing that.

I love your goals! They are similar to mine. I have made it a goal to find me time regularly. This is my way of dealing with the grouchiness and funk. Exercising seems to help me a little too.

I will be following your progress. Good luck, I am sure you got this.

Woo, looks like I am not alone with the rage beast conundrum!   I was blaming it on the long, hard winter - but the weather has turned.  Granted, it's not as warm as I'd like it to be, but at least I've ditched the jacket.     Question remains, why haven't I ditched the funk-mood?

Hopefully we'll all figure some stuff out through the next 6 weeks.   Lean on and inspire each other to sort out what the root cause is and then find a way to tackle it.   It's reassuring to realize I am am not The Lone Funkster.

Ah my groupies!  I <3 you all so much.    Thanks for finding me and tagging along.   I think I am going to need lots of help this go around as I am starting on a rather bad foot.

After careful thinking, I've decided to leave it as simple as it is.  Three goals.  6/6/1.    They are very straight forward, easy to track, but ARE adding up to many days per week of having to do something a certain way, or accomplish this thing or that thing.    That's enough to work on for now.

Starting Up on Day 1

So, yesterday was my nephew's birthday part.  He turned 11.   And I love that kid.   I'm the tough, strong, athletic, young at heart aunt, so I rough house with the boys.    He's about 80lbs now, but he honestly doesn't feel heavy at all.   So when he ran at me, launched himself into the air and said 'CARRY ME!' of course I did.   I sat him on one arm and carried him around like a ... I don't even know.  I was pretty surprised I did it to be honest.  I sat him on my bicep and carried him one-armed.    Soooo what that means is, today?  I am sore as hell!  LOL.   My neck and shoulders are super stiff.   My hips are sore from hockey.  And my shins from last Friday's run.

Definitely think yoga needs to be incorporated.  Do not like this stiffness developing.   So, going to head out for a walk/run and play it by ear.   Tomorrow it is due to rain so I can hit the warehouse gym.

Food, so far so good.   But I am now debating if I should try using my fitness pal to make sure I am not UNDER eating.

MFP - good idea. You've had that tendency before and it really tends to sneak up on you and bring you down. Head it off at the pass...

Hey Starpuck-

I was gonna pass on this challenge, but I think you've inspired me to try it again this time.

I was at a party this weekend, and someone I respect told me that I was an inspiration to them. That really floored me because I have been a little down on myself lately. But it was nice to look at my life and choices through someone else's eyes and see something positive.

These are great goals. I plan to hear more about your total success this challenge... no pressure ;)

One of the things I like best about Nerd Fitness is the way we all inspire each other and lean on each other when stuff starts to feel hard.

GoodDoug!!!!  YOU!  Your face!  I miss it!  So good to see you poking in here.    Either you didn't have a challenge last time, or me in my pseudo-quittiness, never found it.    I am glad you are going to be around here!    Tomorrow, if I have not posted on your thread (which triggers me to be able to follow via 'my content') then poke me.  Because I really love following you.   We can help each other avoid giving up!

And yeah Joedog -there is a definitive correlation between the months when I nailed challenges and when I don't.    The more active I am following OTHERS, and making it a point to check in here and support my NF Rebels and get their support in turn, the more I stick to it all.

Heck, I might even get over my shyness and start going to nerd meets!

DAY 1 RECAP

Food Stuff :

2 scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa, 3 slices bacon for bf. || Ham sandwich on whole wheat low cal bread, with ultra thin swiss, lettuce, tomato, light mayo & green pepper with hummus as lunch.  ||  Pineapple and 1cup smartfood popcorn as snack. (because I wasn't going to eat again until 8pm and didn't wanna binge).  ||  Red Robin, petite burger, lettuce wrapped, no margarine, with sauteed mushrooms and swiss.   Side salad, fork dipped ranch dressing.  ||  One ice cream bar.   For calories.   I needed them and it kept me from having a tub of ice cream, or candy bars.

(1550 calories eaten vs Fitbit expenditure of 2200)

SENSIBLE EATING DAY 1/6

Moving Stuff:

Ran 1 mile at lunch, then alternated run/walk for additional 1.5 miles.  300 calories burned during the jog.  Totally daily steps 12,000+

Shins were soooo sore.  I think I've developed a messed up and broken gait.  Or, because I am not being consistent with it, and also doing a lot of new movements (soccer and rough housing with the nephews yesterday) that I am not fully rested/repaired when I go out and have at it again.  Also must learn how to breathe.   Can an allergy laden chronic nose stuffer with an asthmatic past from her childhood learn to breathe?

MOVED AND STUFF 1/6

Other Stuff:

Nothing focused on today, but it was a very non-challenging day and I do not think I hissed any nastiness at anyone today.  Of course, it's easy to do that on the non-stressful days.   Let's use it as the start of a streak.

Someday I want to be able to run and enjoy it.  I mostly wasn't satisfied with not getting enough steps, so did another up and down on our street.  >.>

You better! Considering we're coming to your city in September.

Yes yes, I am working on it.  But no rucks!  Funk dat!  Eeeeeeeee!   FOODS YES!   Starpuck loves the foods.    And lifting?  Eeeehmmm, maybe?  If I get over this recurrence of being all fatso-slobbo.

Yes yes, I am working on it.  But no rucks!  Funk dat!  Eeeeeeeee!   FOODS YES!   Starpuck loves the foods.    And lifting?  Eeeehmmm, maybe?  If I get over this recurrence of being all fatso-slobbo.

You should watch the welcome party, laugh and then show back up like a sane person for breakfast :)

My body does not like day sleeping, so probably 3 hr nap and I'll be up again.

So, after a bit of perusing my NF Academy workouts, and because I don't want to have to over-think what I am doing-- I've decide for the sake of not feeling discouraged, and for having an actual program to follow, I will begin with the Barbell Battalion Rank 1.   I have all that equipment in my whse gym, so I should be able to follow it along and regain some of my lost progress.

Plus, starting at the bottom might make me feel really good if I manage to complete it.  As opposed to starting in the middle and failing out on it. :P    The real hurdle is yet to come though.  IE.   THE MENTAL HURDLE of  OMG I SUCK AT THIS NOW, I USED TO BE ABLE TO DO IT, WHY I SUCH A LOSER!

There is no past, there is only today and tomorrow.

A long term goal of mine is to do a ruck but after reading Cheechoe and RP's write ups from Boston, I think a more realistic goal is to shadow a ruck.

YES!  Joedog!  You and I can be the cheering section!  This sounds awesome.   We can carry the water cooler or something. :)
