roseofnoonvale
I am back and I'm determined to get my life back on track. I need to get my life in order before I get used to all the bad habits I've fallen into throughout the years. So, without further ado- WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA:Lifelong goal: to be confident in the body I'm in so I can be the made-of-awesome person I am5 or so years out: To have some serious musclesA year or so from today: Have the physical capability to do a set of five pull-ups and finally own and confidently wear a bikini A LITTLE ABOUT ME:I'm a college student with only a few years left in school. I really fell off the wagon this past year out on my own. I'm working through the summer, but I want to start building habits so when classes start up I don't get worse. Nerd-wise, I love Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Supernatural, Nerdfighteria, among a few other things. LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS:Since everything I've read on Nerdfitness emphasises simplicity, I'm going to stick to three overarching goals for the challenge, increasing the willpower needed to stick with it as things go on. They shall be as follows-Exercise +5 mins/ day every week! This one is pretty simple, I currently do not exercise, so I need to change that and get the momentum moving. So for week one, I'll aim to workout for 5 mins every day and then add 5 mins every week. I may add a bit of strength training later in the challenge, but no promises One paleo change/ week! I may not ever go full paleo (I'm from the dairy state, it's kinda hard to completely eliminate cheese. But limit, sure) but I know I need to adapt more of the concepts into my life. These will be cumulitave throughout the challenge. For week one, my challenge is to have one meal a day that has no grains. Spend +5 mins/ day every week in God-time! This is for my spiritual health, because I know I need to work on this. If I'm going to level up my life, I'm not going to be able to keep it together without my God and my faith. (Disclaimer: I am a religious person that will force my beliefs or otherwise condemn a person because they don't believe the same thing as me.)THE BIGGEST OBSTACLES:The big issue I face is not having any person to hold me accountable and cheer me on. So if there's someone out there who also needs an accountabilibuddy, let me know. Smaller challenges are getting this whole thing started while I'm at home and adjusting to a new job in the next few weeks. A side note- I can be really horrible about checking in on these forms, so I'm also starting a tumblr to record my overall journey. So if you have a tumblr and want to follow me, let me know! 4 Current ChallengeMy fitness tumblr Challenge Progress: 20.6%20.6% Link to comment
Carsomyr
Hi, Was just checking in on some of the other level 1 challenges and spotted yours. Your challenge looks like a great start with the focus on smaller habits, and I can certainly identify with all 3 of those you are working on. Blaidd
Rose, you have such lovely and simple goals. You are going to rock this one out. You're not even going to need an accountability buddy (although i totally recommend getting one cos they're the epitome of awesome). If you at any point feel that your goals might not be enough you are more than welcome to edit them a little to add a little more time on, but i think you're going to do just fine good luck with your challengeAB xx Half Faerie (Sidhe) Scout | Black Belt Kitchen Ninja "A positive attitude will not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort" - Herm Albright You're welcome to skype me (audriwolf) too but let me know who you are My challenge Link to comment
Linsanity
Ya, you're right we both have very similar main goals! I've also gone through challenges similar to yours so I know it can be pretty tough! Getting support and finding people to cheer you on are the keys to success though! Good luck! roseofnoonvale
Thanks for the awesome responses everyone! So far, I've accomplished 1/3 today- lunch was an epic combo of leftover salad, half an avocado, tomatillo salsa, and steak (that's the nice part of having an epic chef for a dad who makes yummy leftovers is you can make really healthy meals with leftovers). The plan is to do 5 mins of squats and knee push-ups later tonight and some prayer time right before bed. I'll let you know how it goes! 1 Current ChallengeMy fitness tumblr Challenge Progress: 20.6%20.6% Link to comment

But I did it and I am proud of myself, which is something that hasn't happened in a while. 1 Current ChallengeMy fitness tumblr Challenge Progress: 20.6%20.6% Link to comment

Did you manage to get to your prayer time as well? Jujuba
Oh, I liked the 5 minutes of exercise/ day (should have thought of that for my quest...)And I agree that the spiritual quest should help you stick with the others. roseofnoonvale
It's so awesome to log in and see all the encouragement here on my challenge thread. Yes, I did get my 5 mins of prayer in yesterday, plus a non-grain breakfast followed by walking around the zoo with my brother (which I have decided fills my 5 mins of exercise for the day). I've also created a bit of a point system for myself. Each part of my challenge is worth a point, so a total of 126 points. I'm working on a reward system for whatever percentage I end the challenge at. Right now I'm thinking 50%-65% I get a bottle of my favorite wine, 66%-80% I buy myself a slow cooker, 81%+ and I buy myself a pair of chacos. Or something like that. 1 Current ChallengeMy fitness tumblr Challenge Progress: 20.6%20.6% Link to comment

It looks like you're off to an excellent start. Looking forward to hearing more. Counting something like walking for exercise seemes fine to me, as long as it was long enough that you actually felt you did something. Sounds great. Having a visible reward attached to completing your challenge helps a lot (Although I required google to find out what Chacos are XD) Half-Ogre Monk InitiateLevel 0My challenges : Level 1 Challenge Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination - Way of Kings Link to comment

roseofnoonvale
Hey guys, I know, it's been a bit. My life got kinda crazy. I had one crazy day of travel (cancelled flights are not too fun), a first day at work (I FINALLY GOT HIRED!!) and I was on kitten patrol/ auxiliary mover for my friend yesterday because she moved into a sweet new unit. I haven't hit all by goals every day because of the hecticness, but I normally got at least two points every day. Huzzah! 15 points in the first week, not bad at all. For next week, my plans are to-Exercise: 10 mins/ dayDiet: No grains for one meal AND no desserts (each component of this is worth a half point)Spiritual: 10 mins of God time. Can be broken into two 5-min sessions for a half point each. One little extra thing I did this week was rearrange my pantry. Since I have roommates, I have a 3-shelf cabinet above the dishwasher where I keep most of my non-referigerated food. Healthiest stuff (oils/ vinegars, coffee, soups) is on the bottom shelf while the unhealthy stuff (chocolate chips, mac n cheese stuff like that) is up on the top shelf. I figure if it's hard for me to reach, I'll be less likely to eat it. I'm gonna do some meal planning so I will actually eat better this week. Do any of y'all have some tips for that? 1 Current ChallengeMy fitness tumblr Challenge Progress: 20.6%20.6% Link to comment

Congratulations on getting hired! I think it's admirable that you managed to follow up on your quests even though you had very hectic days. Not everyone has that kind of stamina! BalianIronguard
Rearranging the pantry is a smart choice. The big thing for me keeping where I should be is prepping food and having it to where I just need to throw it in the skillet and go.
