I skipped out on the last challenge after loosing steam midway through the one before that. It's time to stop hiding. (HalfOgres make better seekers than hiders)

Challenge 1:

Eat better.

I shall accomplish this by tracking my food. All my food every day. Good days and bad days... hopefully more good than bad.

Challenge 2 & 3:

Nurture everything around me.

My garden is in full swing and I am killing many fewer things this year than last. We are eating tons of kale and garlic fresh from the garden and had our first cucumber straight off the vine this weekend.

Also, my kids need me so I am cheating and doing 2 challenges with one goal.

I will do this by checking my garden and seedlings and whatever every day. I will also take time every day to do something with the kids. Its too easy to feel too tired and overwhelmed to take the time to do something fun with the kids... soon they won't want to any more.

Challenge 4:

Get fitter.

I will do this by running twice a week and doing "something else" 3 times a week. The something else can be heavy work in the garden, playing soccer, or lifting at the gym. Even during weeks where I am overcommitted (hello soccer tournament for one kid Wed - Sun, I'm talking to you) I can do this if I make time for it. And I can fudge it by combining this with the Nurture... turning compost piles and shoveling out new garden beds for three hours counts as a huge workout (I know from doing it this weekend).

Keep up with NerdFitness. Check every other day at the worst and make comments in other's threads at least once a week, on top of keeping up with my own thread.

What am I good at? Making SMART goals (though havng one of them be "don't kill too much stuff" might not be the best, but cut me some slack)

What do I need help with? Staying engaged with the community. When I do that, I have tons of success (hence the coming out of hiding)

I also backed out of the last challenge. Ghosted a lot of people, but thankfully had one member of my squad reach out to me again at the end.

 

Being active on other people's threads is something I'm good at, but I need to keep it that way. So I'm around to try and keep you honest. Besides, it'd be weird to have a challenge without following your thread as well. I think your goals are solid, and definitely good for easing back into things (and yet being productive).

Good sensible goals as always my friend.   And like you and Jo I skipped out last challenge too for the most part.    I would sometimes get caught up trying to do too much at the same time and I let NF slip as the thing easiest to skip out on.   Well, no more of that from me!

 

We'll lean on each other.   And if one of starts slipping away, we'll just grab tighter!  

 

Also- totally dig you on the 'can be anything' route.  I am doing the same.   I think it triggers less rebellion in my brain to just say 'be moving most of the week' then to say 3 of this, 3 of that, 1.5 of that, and 2 of that.   I get more worn out trying to keep track of what is what, than I get actually doing the stuff!  LOL

 

Can we get garden pics?  It sounds so awesome.

So far so good. 

Tracked all food and pretty much right on for calories

Garden is in good shape... everything has the water it needs (and no more, we're in a drought), seedlings are coming up well and I've checked up on everything every day.

Kids are still kicking! Spending good time with each of them. Played at the park with the 4 year old, built a project with the 11 year old and driving to and from soccer tournament with the 13 year old all week.

Haven't been running yet, but will get that done. Being outside with the kids has given me plenty of opportunities to lift, push and pull to be a decent workout.

 

I'm checking NerdFitness boards, but need to be willing to take a little more time to write in other's threads. Have no fear, I'll get so you can't shut me up

Week 1 recap:

Eat better- 

I did great for 6 out of the 7 days. I only missed tracking one day- though it was the day I blew it on what I ate. My inner voice kept telling me the next day that I just wasn't ready to do this and that I should give this up, but having done it before, I know I am capable. 

 

Nurturing-

Worked in some time with each of the kids. The boy had a big soccer tournament this last week and we spent a bunch of time in the car driving back and forth. Read and played with the little one and spent lots of time with the middle child on her birthday as well as building stuff. There is room for improvement, but I think it was good.

For the garden, I did really well. Kept up with everything. I've been meaning to order more seeds for the Fall garden, but haven't done that yet. 

 

Get fitter-

Could have been better. I only went running once this week. Made up for it with lots of running for the tournament and playing in the park with the 4 year old. I've been doing bodyweight exercises, but not as consistently as I would like. I really feel that getting back into a running routine will help with fitness and diet. I always do better on diet when I am running, not sure why.

 

Bonus-

I have tried to keep up with NF, but it is hard. I need to find a way to come in and do a quick read and answer and not feel like I need to spend a ton of time when I am here. I hesitate to come because I know it will be a time sink for me. I think I can do better by just bopping in and checking stuff out quickly. We'll see how that goes this week.

I have set days that I take the time to respond to thread's. Wednesdays are usually my day, unless I have some free time during lunch (like right now). It can be exhausting though, especially if you're trying to keep up with lots of people who have busy threads.

Hey there friend!  

 

You had a good first week back so don't sell yourself short.    Keep up the positive self talk and move with the momentum you're building.   You got this.  

I know what you mean about certain fitness patterns making eating easier to stay on top of.   I love when I get into those swings.   Need to start doing that more.

 

Also, I sometimes feel overwhelmed on keeping up with threads and stuff, so I get what you mean.  It sometimes gets to the point where my OCD kicks in and I feel like I need to catch up on every thread I am following, that shows 'new posts'.  Eventually I get so swarmed by it, I stop popping in at all.    Something I am trying this time around is to stop in and, if it's a thread I know moves fast (like Cheechoe) commit to checking her thread and one other big/fast thread on one day- then check some of the slower moving threads (like 3-4) of them on another day.   This way I get around to everyone eventually, but don't feel like I have to drop an hour each day checking everyone.   I'm not sure it's working yet, because I've been super busy on top of stuff, but I'll let you know if it does! :)

Hi Hi!

 

I completely peaced out of the NF world until I graduated. Then I needed a few weeks to kind of relax and just let myself do whatever I wanted to.
