Getting Ready for the Marines Part 4

Woman_Marine-Drill_Instructor-Marine_Cor

Hey guys! This will be my tenth challenge now! Last challenge I wasn't proud how it ended, I really want to make it my best but I didn't :( . I let my personal problems effect my goals and as a result I crashed. But now I'm better! A series of events happened and now I'm the me I used to be 10 years ago. And she's a Badass :devilish: .

So let's do this, let's all make this challenge our best! Who's with me?!?!?!

image.png

Goal #1: Beast Mode ENGAGED!!: I'll be working out 6x a week, leaving Sunday a rest day. The workouts will be hardcore to. The Marines won't hold back, so I shouldn't either. (Str. +2)

A. 6x   B. 5x   C. 4x   D. 3x   F. 2x

Goal #2: Eat Like a Warrior: I'm sticking to a very strict diet. It's mainly veggies and meat, even then it'll be mostly veggies. If I get a sugar craving I'll have some fruit and nuts. No dairy either. (Con. +2, Wis. +1)

A. 0 cheats   B. 1 cheat   C. 2 cheats   D. 3 cheats   F. 4 or more cheats

Goal #3: Run faster than the Zombies in 28 Days Later: Running for me greatly helps me mentally. I can face the day and all the stress if I've ran earlier, and I don't want to go back to how I used to be. Everyday now I'll be running and trying to push to go faster. (Sta. +2)

A. Run everyday   B. 1 day missed   C. 2 days missed   D. 3 days missed   F. 4 days missed

Goal #4: Rest and Repair: If I feel my body giving out because of how hard I'm pushing I will rest. A rest day will include, extensive relaxing Yoga, a cold bath, some diy spa treatments, reading, drawing, etc. (Wis. +1, Dex. +1)

A. Listen to my body and rest   F. Push to hard

Life Goal: Size 8!!: I am a size 12 now and although I'm happy about that, I want to take the chance and strive for a size 8 in 6 weeks. Can I do it? Don't know  but can't hurt to try! (Cha. +3)

A. Size 8!!   B. Size 10!   F. No change

I have no idea right now how to grade this haha . So if anyone has any ideas let me know please.

Feedback is welcomed! What do you guys think?

For the sizes, how about you use measurements to grade yourself? That way you can see a steady decline in overall size!

Also, for size pick a preferred brand and figure out the measurement of their size 8- I made myself so angry by buying my regular size only to find I can't squeeze by butt into or it's falling off my hips it because it's a brand I'm not familiar with- that will give you your goal measurement too, so you can work backwards from that.

You can grade yourself with food with how many days you stuck to your diet (0 days no mistakes=A, 1 day mistake=B) or actual slip ups on diet (0 cheats= A, 2 cheats= B, 3 cheats= C, and so on) and do this weekly.

As for exercise, just grade yourself on times you actually work out :) (6=A, 5=B, so on)

Just some ideas, good luck with your challenge, subbing :)

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity:

but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Thank you for the grading ideas!!

Haha that's my biggest issue with most clothing stores. I have a great ass and nice hips, and women aren't supposed to have those :P So far Forever 21, HotTopic, and some other stores will fit me. I'm just going for being able to fit in majority of what is in the store.

Been getting over a flu after coming back from Las Vegas Sunday. But I hate staying indoors dong nothing so I ran yesterday, then walked 8 miles to the library. Felt good!!

Today was rough because I am still a little under the weather, and I need new shoes for running. I tore my feet up really good running and walking in the only other running shoes I have. Which I had been using as emergency work shoes for a reason :nonchalance: .

Workout: 20 Burpees, 50 Pushups, 100 Sit ups, 100 squats, 50 Leg Raises, 2x

Pilates: Arms and Abs

Ran 6 miles, Walked 8 miles later (feet and legs need to rest now)

Food: Breakfast: Salad and a Turkey wrap   Lunch: Lara Bar   Snack: Lara Bar   Dinner: Turkey patty, steamed veggies, and salad

Might go for a run still tomorrow. LOL I can wear my military boots they're comfy, just don't look right with workout clothes  .

Badasses :D

Took an involuntary rest day

Breakfast: Chicken Salad   Dinner: Chicken Salad

I know I should eat more, but I honestly don't get hungry that much. Maybe it's all the water I drink or my workouts.

Got new shoes! They were on sale and red and black my favorite colors :applause: total win.

Tomorrow I'm going for a run with my grandfather, then he'll take me to the gym to pick a membership. Can't wait! I love the gym. It's small but has a big free weights section, and pretty cool bodyweight area that has kettlebells, TRX, rope, etc. And I'll have to walk there since I don't have my license yet (will be getting it this month), and it's 4 miles. So walking to the gym, go BEAST, then running back....

Breakfast: 3 eggs, 4 strips of bacon :redface-new: (it's BACON!!)  Lunch: Turkey wraps  Dinner: Salad, Steamed veggies, and a Braut with mustard

Tomorrow will be busy :nonchalance: . Learning to drive, running in the morning with gramps, walking to gym (also in morning), chores around house, reading, and just a lot of other stuff :P

My plan with the gym is to go everyday, except Sunday or rest day of course. I'm also running with my grandfather early in the morning. So to beat the heat, run in the morning, eat something light, walk to the gym and go BEAST, run back home and do whatever. And do another workout in the evening. Seems like a lot but I know I can pull it off. Tomorrow is upper body at the gym, and a bodyweight lower body at home. And switch it up the next day. Abs everyday cause it's my biggest issue on my figure.

Hey hey!

Everyday everyday. Damn. You're pushing this. I have every confidence that you will own this challenge. My future Marines always come through when called to duty.

Do you feel like you're eating enough on the days you're doing a lot of working out? I don't know, only you would.

FYI reminder: Your abs are out of shape or you want a smaller stomach? Cause more crunches and such won't make your stomach smaller, just more badass. Losing weight will help show off what you've been training hard on.

Gotta push everyday, if I slack I'll get used to being soft and not get better. And as your future Marine I want to make you proud Teri!

I don't know, sometimes I think I should force myself to eat more. Like the day before yesterday I only ate 500 calories, and burned over 1000. I just go by my gut and most of the time I'm not hungry. But  do make sure to eat breakfast.

My gut is out of shape, I want it to be smaller and flatter.

6 hours of straight training!! I am soooo sore and tired.

Ran 5k with my grandfather, and motivated by the power of needing to pee, I sprinted the last mile. I kid you not I was flying! Time: 33 min.

4 mile walk to the gym.

Two hours at the gym. Didn't write down what I did cause I was going around trying everything and seeing what I liked or what worked. I didn't stop once and was dripping in sweat afterwards. Even tried the TRX, I like it!

Ran home and took the long way, 8 miles. Forgot to time it :( But I'm guessing almost an hour.

This evening I finished it with sandbag workout for legs:

1) Sumo Squat: 30x3  2) Walking Lunges: 20/20x4  3) Single Leg Deadlift: 20/20x4  4) Squat Jump: 20x3 and 20 Burpees for good measure.

Studied almost the rest of the day. Then my grandfather took me out to practice driving, he said I'm good I just need to get comfortable behind the wheel.

Tomorrow will be a repeat of today. Can I handle this almost everyday? We'll see. I'll also will be taking weekly photos to view progress, a friend recommended this after I weighed myself on the gym scale. It said I'm 200 lb again :( I have dropped two sizes and lost a lot of inches, how did I gain 6 lb?? Needless to say I am very upset by that. I know weight isn't a big thing and it's your progress that matters. But weight matters to the recruiters and I was hoping to be close to the required weight by now.

TRX rocks. I've already decided that I'm quitting the gym as soon as my contract allows it, and getting a TRX instead.

You're doing an awesome job on this. I vote ditch the scales until the end of the challenge. Anything that's going to put a dent in your amazing progress can get kicked to the kerb for now.

Hey Girl,

You are so busting up the trails baby, wow! I'm sure you'll surpass the DI's demands. They might even make you a squad leader during boot! If you like pedagogy, platoon leader might be something to aim for. If it's done the same way when I went through. You can get meritoriously promoted at graduation. Molly Marine award (helpful with others), PT award (highest exercise PT score), and scholar awards (memorize and ace the written tests on history, mottos, ranks, and such) are also available.

If you could grab some rank early, that would be good. The Marine Corps doesn't have the money that, say, the Air Force does, so promotions are hard to get through time and effort. Any meritorious promotions you can get are so worth it. Once you're stationed with your permanent squadron, you can try for Marine of the Month and Year. All that helps. [P.S. even though you won't be in combat squadrons, you'll want to know the info so when you're tested at these interviews you have the info. Mine was the 3 types of attack: frontal, rear, and flank  I missed flank. I was so pissed. But it was done.]

More rank early makes getting Sgt. faster and making being a Lifer so much better. Okay, enough exciting stuff, get back to killing it, yea?

Subbed - I'm finding all kinds of things in these forums, including future fellow military badass ladies!

I definitely think you're ambitious for working out 6 days a week, though it's do-able if you make the time. The key will actually lie in your rest and recovery goal - hitting the gym almost every day can be a one way ticket to overtraining if you don't eat, sleep and rest like a boss. Also, how you structure your workouts will be important too - you don't wanna work the same area heavy two days in a row, or you might just injure that part and not be able to work it at all for a while *sadface*

How long until you go for the Marines? That's so exciting :D

I think you can make it to size 8 in 6 weeks if you want to, and it'll be mainly down to your diet. As the bodybuilders I come across always say, "Abs are made in the kitchen." Of course I counter with "Awesome is made in the Army", but whatever floats your boat ;)

EDIT: Just went and looked at your first challenge, and you had my abs quote right there! *facepalm* PS 50 push ups is A LOT for a female. Like, really. Seriously. I am impressed you even considered getting that many - how many can you do now? My max was 40, and last fitness test I only did 23! Use it or lose it, clearly :\

I have to say, the TRX is fun and versatile! Just make sure you have a secure place to put it :P

As much as I would agree with ditching the scales, they do motivate me to work even harder to lose weight. Because I do not want to go back to 200!

I can do 40-45 straight pushups so far. I want to do 50 one armed ones one of these days!

Rock on.

Curious, what is the Marines deadline for you?  What day is the last possible day you can join the Marines?

The goal is the end of July. Just to be ready doctor's note, weight, everything ready to sign up.

Goal #1: A: Been working hard to build my muscles and improve this already rocking bod :) And the improvements keep on coming! My arms are losing the flab, and my abs are getting flatter. I don't care about my arms as much as I'm happy about my stomach :D Die butt gut!!

Goal #2: B: Splurged yesterday on a gluten-free, and sugar-free vanilla yogurt. It was delicious! And to be honest I don't really care that I had it, it felt good to relax on the walk home from the gym. Other than that I've been really good. My energy is up and my acne is going down, I'd say that's good so far.

Goal #3: A: Been running everyday with my grandfather. Our runs range from 3-5 miles because he has to get back to take care of my grandmother. I feel so good after a run, it's my crack and helps me function throughout the day.

Goal #4: A: I've been listening to my body and resting or taking it easy whenever I feel like I'm pushing it.

My broken tooth has been acting up worse than before :( And I think it's infected which worries me. My grandmother has already told me I'm going to the dentist because she doesn't want to see me in pain. I am on my dad's insurance but he's waiting for the cards to come in. And even then there's no guarantee the surgery I need will be covered. My mom has been no help in this matter. My dad is worried but she actually told me to just live with it, because she won't pay if it's not covered. Hearing that made me mad. But whatever I might as well let my grandmother help out and figure out how to pay her back.

I did Lower Body yesterday and it went fairly well, just killed me to run today because my legs were so sore.

Upper body today but I lost a lot of focus due to my tooth giving me a headache. And the place was packed! Every machine, weight, and cardio were taken. I was amazed and a bit pissed that most of the people actually sat on some of these machines and texted!! And the beef heads would hoard the weights and pile them at the benches they claimed. I got what I could done and had to leave.

Hoping tomorrow will be a better gym time.

Listerine will help with infection.  What is actually better is grain alcohol (NOT rubbing alcohol) second best is whiskey...just rinsing with it will kill infection.  It also numbs the nerve...I know.  I had to live for two weeks with a shattered tooth in high school.  Only kid with a prescription for Wild Turkey Whiskey ( It still has the medicinal seal on it as it is approved.)  Of course I was only allowed to rinse my mouth out with it, mostly just sat it on the tooth until it stopped hurting.  Crushed or powdered aspirin with a little water to make a paste, rub it into the tooth and let it set for a bit.

Just a few things that have worked for me.

Well my grandmother will not get whiskey for me, that's certain. So I have mouthwash and that's been working so far. And I now have a appointment to see the dentist. I'm hoping I get it out.

Thanks for the rest of the tips man!

Hey LostOne! Sorry about being so late to say this, but...

:triumphant: :triumphant: :triumphant: WELCOME TO THE DAI-GURREN BRIGADE!!! :triumphant: :triumphant: :triumphant:

Your challenge looks awesome, and your goals are great! Good job with week one too! Saw the write-up, and it seems you're doing well :D

As for your tooth, I hope you can get to the doctor soon :(

Anyways, hope Tuesday's gone well :pride:

Aaaaw thank you! I am getting around the brigade and will be seeing all your guy's challenges tomorrow :D

I am so behind on my fellow Nerd's progress. That's not good. Tomorrow I have time to be on the computer and read up on all of y'all!

Today was Leg day, so OOOOWWW!! I didn't write down my weights or what I did because it's tough to take a notebook in a crowded gym, along with water bottle and towel. My notebook has foot prints on it from texting gym members . I think I need a smaller one.

My new plan is to leave earlier to the gym. Hardly anyone will be there so I can do the stuff I need to before the crowd arrives. It'll be rough but I don't have a choice really, afternoon is to hot, and I can't drive yet so no evening. I will for sure write my workout tomorrow and post it.

Awesome movie btw! So many scenes that are odes to the older movies I was gushing like the fan girl I am!
