Maigrey's 1st Challenge

Workout log:

 

July 12: 30 min easy stroll - walked to Burger Fest (yes, that's really a thing.  Chicago is awesome with all their fests)

 

July 13: 6 mi brisk walk, then BBWW #5:

 

24 assisted squats (12, 12)
10 push ups on knees (5, 5) 
20 walking lunges (10, 10)
22 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug) (10, 11)
25 second plank (15, 10) 
0 Jumping Jacks, because, man - I'd just walked 6 miles, thank you very much.
 
Tomorrow's a fast day, so I'll be getting 4 meals in today and relaxing at a pool party.

Ooooh burger fest! Good job getting those walks in. Walking to/from food is the best :rapture: hunger is motivating, and it feels good for digestion. Glad to see you're acing your goals!

Thanks! Turns out burger fest was further away than I thought so I got quite the walk in. [emoji1] definitely took the bus home though!

Roscoe Village now has this - on belmont between damen and oakley.  It was last weekend and there are like 400 burgerrr vendors.  and FRIES.  :)

 

Chicago also now has Pizza fest and like 3 rib fests and I heard some rumor of Pierogi fest.

Quest 1: Follow weeks 7 - 12 (i've done 1-6 already) of the Hal Higdon half marathon walking program


Measurement: A+  - YES. Although I've definitely got to find something else after this half marathon, as after an hour, walking just sucks.


 


Quest 2: Follow food plan of "no candy, no ice cream, no baked goods and no white flour".  Processed carbs poorly affect me, and I'm well aware I don't need them


Measurement: C - burger at burger fest w/white flour, 2 meals at great america with burger buns.  Such is life, and I do think I walked most of it off.  I also had 2 campfire mochas this week, alas.


 


Quest 3: Drink at least 80 oz of water  per day


Measurement: B - I think - to be honest I didn't really track this as well as I could/should


 


Life Quest: Go to a bar and a) not drink and   B) have a conversation of substance with at least one person.   If I'm going to tackle my stranger anxiety, let's get that act together


Check - at Great America Tuesday I chatted up several random people in line.  Go me. :)

Props on the walking consistency  :encouragement:

If you're interested in variety, you could look into obstacle 5k's or sprint triathlons (there are even supersprint distances which are pretty short)! I've done sprint distances and I love them, in my unfit condition it takes about 2.5 hrs, so comparable with running a slow half marathon.

 

Ohh or you could hike/bike if that's convenient for you

Quest 1: Follow weeks 7 - 12 (i've done 1-6 already) of the Hal Higdon half marathon walking program


Measurement: A = 100% of the workouts B= 80% of the workouts + long walks C=60% of the workouts (including long walks)


GRADE: A!  I really stuck to the workouts and may have had to double up on a couple days or deal with life getting in the way and shifting days, but I did it.  I can't wait for this stupid half to be done.


 


Quest 2: Follow food plan of "no candy, no ice cream, no baked goods and no white flour".  Processed carbs poorly affect me, and I'm well aware I don't need them


Measurement: A = 0 slips, B = 3 slips, C = 6 slips


GRADE: B!  I had 3 meals where I had white flour, and that's ok - the were situations where it was difficult to avoid them.


 


Quest 3: Drink at least 115 oz of water (weight / 2) per day


Measurement: A = 115 oz of water, 42 days; B = 115 oz of water, 36 days, C = 115 oz of water, 30 days


GRADE: C - I changed this to 80oz/day and to be honest, I was not as great at tracking this, but I am a thirsty person, so I'm pretty sure I did reasonably well.


 


Life Quest: Go to a bar and a) not drink and  B) have a conversation of substance with at least one person.   If I'm going to tackle my stranger anxiety, let's get that act together


Measurement: A = 6 times (1 time/week), B = 5 times , C = 4 times


GRADE: ENNNNH, technically, F.  But - I realized I am doing 100% better in saying hi and striking up conversations with random strangers at Great America, and I even went and met some nerds.   I do give myself an A in actually meeting and talking to new people, just not necessarily at a bar.
