What's wrong with being a Captain America fan + Quaker?  (Asking as a Quaker who also loves Marvel; though I'm more Spiderman and X-men).

Quakers just aren't really the rah-rah patriot types and I think that it was Captain America was first meant to symbolize. Just my opinion!

Kryptolantean, perhaps?  Actually Atlantonian rolls off your tongue a little better.

Hey, there's no saying there couldn't of been some Aquaman and Supergirl torrid love affair that didn't make the comics...

That is *AWESOME*! I really might need to add that to my signature!

Oh, he wants to join the guild for this challenge.

Hi Rangers :D I'm here as a first time Ranger and SUPER psyched to take down this challenge!

I've been looking for a site for body fat percentage that takes measurements AND weight into account- any suggestions? (I promised myself a cut look as a goal and haven't been able to find anything that has accurate enough numbers to track it)

That is just so awesome. I approve and if it hasn't been done, we need to create it!

Aquaman and Supergirl? That sounds like a great match. :P

I don't know if there is an accurate way to do that, actually.

I have a handheld measurer at home, so I tried 10 different sites to see how their calculation compared with my meter.  Most said I was at an impressive 66-68% fat  :nightmare: , though one had me all the way down to a svelte 28% (that was the only one that didn't ask my height, which seems to be important.  I'm quite big for such a shorty.)  The one that was closest was this one, which was only 4% over my meter.  I might also just be oddly proportioned for that method though, but I'm going with it's not remotely accurate, especially since I got multiple sites putting me at the high 60s.  (nope nope nope)

You could go try the Bod Pod thing, if you really want to know.  Not something to do weekly (it's $50+/pop), but you could do it to get the baseline of where you're at.

Welcome!

I use this - it is easy to use and accurate enough for me to get a good idea of progress. It does tend to run a little lower than DEXA scans, etc. but I figure I'll get close to my target and then spring for a more expensive test for the fine tuning.

I use http://www.linear-software.com/online.html and have promised myself a proper BF assessment when I get close to goal.  Weird reward, I know.

I use bio-impedance scales. I had a Dexa and used my bio scales an hour and a half before, the results were within 0.1% of each other so it seems pretty accurate., The Navy Body fat measurements were wildly inaccurate for me, they put my BF% way higher than it really was. I think there's too much room for error in measuring tapes etc. especially if you are doing it yourself.

Whatup, Rangers!

Gotta say, I think this guild is the best. Simply the best.

BTW, sorry about bailing on the last mini challenge. I'll try not to get lost in the woods this time. I'll fight the imps, or gorgons, or gargoyles, or whatever Hammlin discovers about the island this time around!

The Navy was one of the ones that had me at a crazy 67% body fat.

I use this thing for body measurements though.  I found it takes away a good part of the inconsistencies of wondering if you gained an inch or if you held the tape measure more snuggly last time.  I also ignore the standard instructions to measure at my widest or smallest part and pick an identifiable place that won't change, so at least I know if I have changes and not that I'm just measuring in a different spot.  So waist is measured at my belly button, bicep at my tattoo, forearm at my beauty mark, etc.

The Navy told me I have 14% body fat. The only explanation for that is I am a very lean and fit pregnant father.

i use the linear-software.com site for my bf% measurements with my tape measure. I have done for a few years now, so at least my measurements are consistent with themselves. I am currently at 34.09%BF [as of today] which seems about right to me. The same site and method did not work for my lovely Bec, but then she has a lot of excess skin from losing over 40kg after some surgery [removal of 80cm of bowel].

So in the end go with what works best for you and be consistent with it.

Hello all of you Rough and Ready Rangers!

I have a level one accountability group (Storming the Castle)  that I have asked what they want to learn about. Several are interested in cross fit, cross training - and hiking(rucking was not mentioned) and Bodyweight training.

I was wondering if someone here would be willing to write up a post for us that discusses why you choose cross fit or cross training, benefits, and what you would consider as a beginning, are there any warnings?

Just a little piece about what Rangers do!

And, if you could add in some Princess Bride quotes or gifs, all the more perfect!

So, please, if  someone would guest post - pm me if you are interested.

Thank you!
