Last challenge I focused on Roller Derby! I aimed to be better at my skills and to improve my overall knee health. The whole thing was a success I felt!

 

This challenge I start my career as a pharmacist. I will be on my feet for 40 hours of the week, something I haven't done in about a year. It's going to be a shock to the system, and I need to keep focused and determined in order to not slack.

 

Main Goal: Pass through my Level 2 derby skills and be working on level 3 by the end of six weeks.

 

Fitness Quests:

  • Attend all Newbie sessions - STA + CON
    • After the 29th (when I'm on a course) - which are moving to Wednesdays. I'm going to be shattered, so it's going to take some willpower to get there. Any Sunday sessions will be a bonus.
  • Pack my own lunch at least 4/5 days for work! - CON + WIS
    • This week I've been working on easy healthy lunches that I can take to work - courgette pasta, normal pasta, salads. 
  • Workout 2/7 days and continue with physio 5/7 days - STR
    • Once I get paid at the end of August I am planning on re-joining the gym (it may happen before hand) once I've worked out when I can guarantee I'll be going and such. Until then I need to continue working out at home and maintaining my physio routine.

Life Quest:

  • Save money for house - WIS + CHA
    • My fiance and I have been looking for a house for a while, and about a month ago we thought we had one secured but then it all fell through, so we're back to square one. We've got a few viewings this week so yay!
    • This involves - taking my own lunch to work, not going out for my dinner, having cheap weekends out (we're heading to some English Heritage things over summer of which we're members so get in free, plus plenty of derby games which are about £5 each)

Quite excited for this challenge. Only hope I can manage it.

That's the plan =P, soon as I get through my minimum skills training.

Got my lunch all prepped for tomorrow! Macaroni pasta with mushrooms, tomatoes and philadelphia :) followed by strawberries and melon. Also taking a protein shake for tomorrow evening, as I'm going straight from work to see a house, so I won't get to eat until much later tomorrow.

First day of work tomorrow! I'm both super excited and super nervous xD. But this is what I've been working for for 5 years. This is the culmination of many years hard work and many tears and stressful nights and depressive episodes. This is it!

I would, but you don't need it. Give it hell! Er... or whatever the pharmacological equivalent of "hell" might be.

Also, the pasta looks super tasty. Hope you brought enough to share. ;)

First day of work is over! So super tired!

 

I've got some really awesome wedge shoes for work and they're SOOO comfy, but my orthotics don't fit in them! I didn't put any in today (not even my cheap ones) and I felt it. My knees and my back are killing me from my over-pronating feet. It's only day 1! From tomorrow I'll be wearing some insoles and hopefully my knees will feel better. 

 

I think though, I could definitely manage getting to the gym on a Monday. I'm hoping to rejoin in a couple of weeks, and I'm thinking of going Monday's, Friday's and Saturday's. Plus skating Wednesday and some Sunday's, too. We'll see how it goes in the coming weeks.

 

Ate my lunch, and though I had a wander about I did not venture to the co-op for chocolate...though I am sitting with a magnum ice cream now xD. Off on a course tomorrow, so no lunch to prepare, so tonight it's a bath and then physio and bed!

Okay, so yesterday I had to travel down to Wakefield (near Leeds) for my Pre-Reg with Lloyds induction day. It was a really good, informative day. This year is going to kick my arse but at the end of it I'm going to be a fully fledge qualified pharmacist so it will be worth it.

 

I also went skating last night, even though I didn't plan to. I only actually managed one hour. A combination of my knees playing up after being stood for 8 hours on Monday plus just being exhausted meant I sat out after an hour. But I still managed to go!

 

I need to be on top form the rest of this week with my physio, and just need to learn to maintain myself while I'm working. Yes, I may be shattered, but I'm going to feel worse if I don't look after myself :).

 

Had an epsom salt foot soak tonight, so hopefully that'll make a difference....maybe.

I don't feel half as tired as I did at the start of the week - woot!

 

Made my tea again tonight; mexican chicken pitta bread with melon as my something sweet. So that's 3/5 days this week that I prepared my own lunch. I didn't do it Tuesday because I was at my induction and lunch was provided and I didn't do it for Wednesday because after skating I was shattered and I didn't have time on the morning.

 

Went for a walk by the seaside with Rob tonight, which was niiice :).

 

Knees are a little sore, but I've been wearing my insoles and doing my physio and they do feel better than on Tuesday. Just got to keep it up :D

Keep on truckin'!

I'm interested how you have your training split, what counts as your Level 2?
We have ours in a batch just as minimum skills.
Or is that a step up because you've passed basics?

No it's just how MMR work it. 

 

 

Level One

•   Sticky Skating

•   Knee tap left

•   Knee tap right

•   Two consecutive knee taps

•   Double knee slide

•   Step forward

•   Step backward

•   Shuffle right and left

•   Quick steps in place

•   Quick steps to the right and left

•   Balance 30 secs one foot

Level Two

•   Grapevine

•   Weaving 10 cones

•   Weave pack of skaters

•   Weave paceline of skaters

•   Give whips

•   Receive whips

•   Give push

•   Receive push

•   Pacing

•   T stop

•   Plough

•   Bumping

 

Then level 3 is things like; 25/5, one foot glides (which I already have ticked), unexpected obstacles (which I have ticked), laterals, hops, jumps etc (though we haven't done jumps since one of the girls broke her leg 4 weeks ago)

 

You can have anything ticked off, and I have some stuff ticked in level 4 (not many as it's mostly transitions which I suck at), but you have to pass through them sequentially :)

Ahhh, I see, that makes more sense!
We have that whole thing in one sign off sheet. It takes 3 signatures per item to get it signed.

Jumps are a bit scary, I managed to go over a suitcase on a whirl of confidence, but since then I keep talking myself out of it!

First week of my pre-reg done! 51 weeks to go. Had a pretty decent first week, I've been constantly dispensing, constantly on my feet. Frankly, I'm shattered xD.

 

I've managed to maintain a healthy diet, and have been maintaining my physio after the disaster that was tuesday's training.

 

Tomorrow I'm at a men's sur5al in Oldham, which is an all day derby event. Means a very early morning, but I'm super excited!

End of Week 1:

  • Attend all newbie sessions = A! I wasn't planning to go at all this Tuesday but I did :D
  • Make lunch 4/5 days = B, I managed it 3/5 days, and every time I did it was something healthy and nice :D
  • Physio 5/7, workout 2/7 = I worked out 1/7, and managed my physio 4/7, so another solid B I'd say. Need to pick it up with my physio, otherwise I'm never going to get any better!
  • Save money = Pretty much did okay with this one. Bought my lunch one day, but we went to a derby tournament yesterday and I didn't buy a single thing! Also good on the money front is that I've got my 75£ deposit back from my house and the uni is giving me some money for passing through 4th year :D

All in all a pretty decent first week :)

Not only have I thought of a retirement date, I'm trying to think of things I can do to not be a pharmacist; write a novel, open a bar? 

 

I joke, I joke, I actually do love my job. My feet on the other hand, do not.
