I just finished my run.

I was able to do a mile in 10"11", but shortly after a mile, I got a bad side-stitch so I had to slow my remaining pace WAY, WAY down. It ended up taking me 40'49" to finish the 5k and I didn't even run the whole time because I couldn't work the stitch out. I did, however, manage to get 100 vt ft accomplished though, which normally I don't ever set the treadmill on an incline when I'm running - so I guess that helps even out the score. Man, I really wanted to do the 5k in less than 32 minutes tonight. My time was 32'05" this day last week. How come some runs just don't want to cooperate? :P

In other news, I didn't count calories, didn't use the food scale, have only checked my FitBit dashboard twice today, and have a bottle of water within reach all day.

I feel good, even though the run felt like I was trudging through quicksand! I finished what I set out to do today, not matter how long it took.

:frog:

Super day, and sorry about the stitch - a little incline goes a long way!

You are going to smash through some walls on this one;I can just feel it.

Doing so well!

I found that if I'm not hydrated enough, I will get the side stitches.  Having the water bottle within reach is good, but how much do you actually drink throughout the day?  Only curious.  Good job on the run.  It will get better

Good point Jitters, I was thinking maybe the incline could have been a factor for the time anyways if that is the first time you've run on an incline, it SHOULD take you longer if you are going up hill....shouldn't it?

These are great goals LT, I know they will be challenging for you, but turtles are stronger than they look and. I know you can do it!

I know it is a scary going to let go of what we have gotten used to, but once you do, it is a really freeing experience and, at least for me, it always makes me feel like I've had some sort of weight lifted off of me.... It will turn into a relief, you just have to get used to it first!

I'm so happy that we're reunited!!

Your goals are AWESOME. I hope that not counting calories, specifically, allots you some freedom in your average day in a way that obsessively counting does not. I always do "better" eating when I count calories too, but for me it's too exhausting to do all the time and I end up giving up and crashing.

Your 5k stats are already pretty good.. I can just about run a 35 minute 5k but my average pace when I go for a run is a lot slower.  So you'll be my inspiration to keep trying to run faster =) Running buddies again! What is your running schedule like? Sprints, long runs, etc.

Keep it up!

Great job, pushing through the side stitch (they can be so painful :) ). For me, when I ran, I seldom got them unless I ran shortly after I have eaten. Did you eat before or after your run? On the other hand, some people are able to run after a heavy meal and have no problems with it, so I guess it differs.

Don´t worry about your time, like you say, some runs are just much slower than other which can be a result of not enough rest, to little food, to much food and lots of other reasons.

Great not measuring!

Hmm…I hadn't eaten anything since lunch before I went on my run.  I usually try to run on an emptier stomach.  Thanks for the insight.  :)

I've actually been drinking much more than normal…for fact I've been needing to use the bathroom much more (sorry, that's probably TMI).  And yes - it will get getter!  I might have just set the pace a bit too high to start.

I only turned on the incline after I cut my pace way back.  I felt it would help me compromise the slower pace.  I can't imagine running that fast with an incline!

First of all:  BEST GIF EVER!  I love it!  Too cute!

Yay for being reunited running buddies!  I'm so very excited.  I run two or three times a week and both times I try to go at least two miles, but no more than five miles.  I like my happy medium of the 5k.  I don't mind sprints every once in awhile, but I find my lungs do better with keeping a steady pace and slllooowwwlly upping the speed week by week.

I didn't even realize QUITE how cute that gif was when I posted it but now I can't stop watching it!

That's interesting. I have to run sprints/intervals twice a week because otherwise I just run at my slow, plodding pace.  How do you know that you're running faster?  Or how do you push yourself to?

Ah, okay! So a few challenges ago, I would run a 5k on my treadmill with the pace being set at 5.0 mph. Once my lungs adjusted to that pace and I felt unchallenged by it, I would start doing my 5k(s) at like a 5.2 mph pace. Each week or two, I up it by a TEENY amount. Right now, I can run it at a 5.8 speed. It takes me forever to gain a substantial amount of speed, but I'm now curious if there is a proper way to do sprints? Maybe I've been going about it the wrong way (I tend to make things more difficult than need be). :)

I know I can run a mile right now in under 10 minutes, but I can't sustain that speed for more than that, and I'm trying to train my body to run faster for longer distances. How do you do your sprints? Like...run like the Flash for a minute then slow for two and repeat?

Day 2: About to end my day with yoga. Only checked the FitBit Dashboard twice (not gonna lie, but I REALLY want to check it once more - but you all have my word that I will not), no calorie counting, no food weighing (I mean...I ate some steel cut oats today and used a measuring cup to get the serving size, but I don't think that really counts because before I would have measured the oats to the exact gram that the bag said was a serving). I drank a lot of water...well, enough for me to be using the restroom more often than usual...I must have a tiny bladder...)

Oh! And I think I figured out why last night's run was so damn difficult. With the risk of being inappropriate and providing too much information, my "cycle" started today. I assume that my body was just gearing up for that and left me feeling sluggish. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Anyways. Off to the mats for yoga!

My boyfriend and I played badminton last night for about a half hour or so...I'm not exactly sure because I was having way too much fun and lost track of time.  It's funny how I sorta feel like I'm "cheating the system" when I'm doing something that is so enjoyable and fun that it couldn't possibly count as exercise.   :D

After badminton last night, I was making my lunch for today and I decided I wanted to bring a glass of whole milk with me as part of my lunch.  Out of habit, I went to grab the food scale so I could measure out my allotted 8 ounces, and then I just froze.  The scale was almost in my hands, and I just stood there staring at it.  It's almost like I couldn't even figure out how to pour a glass of milk without it.  I took a deep breath and stepped away from the scale and just poured what I thought looked close to 8 ounces in a travel mug, placed it in the fridge and walked away.  I'm going to ask my boyfriend to officially hide it tonight.  The not counting calories, macros, and micros is starting to get easier and the not checking my FitBit dashboard is fine so long as I am at work and don't have the dongle with me.  But the not weighing food is still hanging me up a bit.  I'll get the hang of it, I just need a couple more weeks.   :)

Going for a run tonight.  This one will be epic!  I can feel it in my bones!

LittleTurtle,

I'm a little late, but it looks like you are doing great!  I know how hard it is to stop tracking and obsessing about the food thing, because I had to do the same thing myself not too long ago.  Though believe me the first step is the hardest and now I'm glad I did even though its still tough at times.  So hang in there, things do get better!

Aw, shucks!  You're too kind.  Stop it some more!  ;)  LOL

Thank you for the encouragement!  :frog:

Saturday morning run?

That sounds like a fantastic idea!  I'm so used to running immediately after I get home from work, that I sometimes forget I can do it on the weekend mornings before I get ready for the day.  :)

For me, it's the best way to really wake myself up.  Coffee helps get the mind going, but with the run, it wakes all of me.  I'm running tomorrow morning as well, so we'll have a virtual run date.  Just don't tell the counterparts.  :P

LOL - It'll be our little secret!  Now I have to be accountable for the run instead of waking up and thinking, "Hmmmm...nope.  The bed is just too comfy to move this morning."
