@BC: Lols. I don't even want to *think* about Texas in summer. Eeewwwwwwwww.

Neither do I!  But, oddly enough this summer has started off cool... which is creepy, usually means there's a hard winter coming (but our hard winters will be a cake walk for you).

@jofalltrades: Thanks! The lasagna was pretty good - I used a combo of hot Italian sausage & chopped up barbicoa as the meat and the rest fit together pretty well. I think I'll be making this general recipe again with some tweaks (like using the right freaking milk).

I'm glad other people are gaining insight from my wardrobe program - it's really helping me solidify what I actually want vs. my general tactic of buying random things on sale/falling into the 'you have to have these 9 things or your summer will be a failure!' trap. Having said that, I hope to push myself further in the dreaming about things category, because I keep seeing random items places like Project Runway that are not at all budget or lifestyle practical (like pretty much leather everything or things that look like they belong on a futuristic alien) that I love, but can't in all good conscious put into a capsule wardrobe ... damn literal-mindedness.

Aaaah. double post!

Fine. I will take this as an opportunity to share the Crossfit-inspired resistance band workout I just found. @Hiroro: something possible to look into for a quickie hotel workout?

@BC: Our summer has been crazy mild, too, and I'm kind of on the terrified side of what that may mean for this winter. I really, really, really don't want another winter like last year. It was kind of hell for me, the hubbs, and the boys - especially the old man with his arthritis.

Lol good idea!  ooooo that looks interesting :)

Well, we still have more summer to go, so let's hope it heats up enough to stave off some crazy frostmageddon.

I like the staples plus highlight pieces style! It's one I use myself. Plus there are some things that are always in style and it's way too hard to keep up with the ever changing "new look" both mentally and financially. Now if only I could learn to stop spending my clothes budget on more workout clothes and scarves I might actually look like an adult.

Link to post

HaHaHa. Yeah. I'm right there with you - I have a mental rolodex of about 936 scarves I want. I own like 9 and wear one pretty much every day in the fall/winter.

And workout clothes ... I'm counting those as a separate wardrobe, since it seems like I'm always on the hunt for something/needing to replace something because of stubborn mud stains/the crap I bought last year doesn't fit any more. Or go with my blue shoes without looking like a walking cliche (most of my stuff is on the pink/orange side since my last pair of shoes was orangey).

Somehow, I don't think this fits into my capsule wardrobe ...

Week 2 Day 3 Update

Overarching Goal: Building A Better Bat

tl;dr version: continue on the 'changing my body for the better' track by building muscle and losing fat.

Goal 1: Fitness - aka be capable enough to escape the Joker whenever

4-5 days per week; Spartan WODs + fitness-style yoga + be flexible when needed + pull-ups & handstand work if possible.

Today was acupuncture day - no time for a workout before, and too sore after. Acupuncture went well. He stuck to my tailbone/hip area where my spine is bugging me, which is fine - that's the main worry spot right now (my neck/shoulder will relax some day & my wrist will go back to not hurting eventually). This guy was also waaaaaayyy gentler than the last lady I went to. She whanged the needles in - he gently placed them. Big difference in my level of hobbled-ness this morning. I think I'll be making this a weekly thing - and I hope to start with yoga next week and make that a bi-weekly thing (the hubbs has tattoo appointments every other Thursday for the next few months).

We also decided that we want to start going out and doing something 1 extra night a week to cut down on the amount of tv we watch. We're thinking Tuesdays or Wednesdays after dinner.

Which means that I need to train well on the days I have available.

Goal 2: Metrics - aka Sciiiience! Like Poison Ivy? (go with it)

As a refresher, my metrics are: 100 grams or under of carbs, 70 grams or over of protein, under 100 grams of fat and around 1500 calories. Water is the recommended by FitBit 64 ounces, and on the weekends I like my step count to be over FitBit’s recommended 10,000. I track food with My Fitness Pal and exercise, sleep and water with the FitBit Flex. Weight and BF are tracked with my FitBit Aria scale.

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie + hemp protein & coffee with almond milk + extra iced coffee with almond milk

Lunch: A zucchini & a handful of dandelion greens sauteed in some ghee with the last of the chicken breast

Snack: Big hand full of mixed nuts

Dinner: Leftover paleo zucchini lasagna with cashew ricotta

Snack: CSA TOMATOES! Can you tell I'm excited? I gorged myself on 2 tomatoes + 1 peach + balsamic + citrus salt and it was magnificent

Calories: 1,251

Carbs: 81

Fat: 71

Protein: 79

Sugar: 40

My calorie count was better today. Everything else was on track, too, though that much tomato + peach at once just about gave me a (totally worth it) stomach ache.

Weight: 117.8 lbs.

Calories In vs. Out: 1251 In vs 1512 Out

Sleep: 7 hours & 24 minutes - awake 0x, restless 6x

Very Active Minutes: 16 / Distance: 2.0 miles / Steps: 4,912

Water: 60+ ounces, though I forgot to track

Goal 3: Socials - Like With Superfriends & Shit

Forcing myself to be social: I'm aiming for once a week out of the house (aside from weekends) doing something that is either directly social (like attending a meetup, game night, book club, actually going out with a friend, etc.) or on my way to social (I'm counting going to the doctor as a social activity because my doctor is through Freelancers Union and they have 99999 networking and social events).

I went to acupuncture - book club is Saturday, and I may end up going to a massive lightsaber party in Washington Square after book club.

Life Side Goal - Get My Wardrobe Dialed-in Like Harley Quinn

Wardrobe restructure. I've been really into building a minimalist wardrobe lately and think I might be ready to make the jump. Sites like this and Pinterest are fueling this current obsession. My need to purge crap from my house is also driving this desire.

I *want* to jump into this process willy-nilly and get with the purging. But ... I'm deciding to take a more measured course instead. At least for now. I tried tackling Day 10 of the Upgrade Your Wardrobe In 30 Minutes A Day 2-week program, but confused myself. Day 10 has you taking everything you've learned about your personal style and creating a tentative ideal capsule wardrobe structure. Not necessarily a practical wardrobe, just an ideal one. And then a practical one. A capsule wardrobe is 20-30 core pieces (including shoes & jackets, excluding underwear & accessories).

Step 1: Create a concept. Which I've done through my Pinterest board during previous assignments. The theme of my style is kind of soft edgy-industrial with lashes of post-apoc punk and a strong Audrey backbone. My uniform/signature look is Jeans + tee/tank + cardigan/blazer + boots/heels/flats.

Part 2: Basic Structure - This is where things get confusing and quantities get thrown into the mix.

Uniform - 50% of available items

Other items should be allocated due to relative importance

More items need to be allocated to categories that need more frequent washing (like shirts)

3 items need to be allocated to daily-wear items like shoes & jackets

And this is where I got overwhelmed. My thought process is too schizophrenic. This summer has been confusing - it's August, and should by all rights be hot -- but it's not that hot -- and all the outfits I pinned involved cardigans/blazers + everything on the internets has switched over to fall. So … I'm getting bogged down in extraneous information. So I need to plan Fall instead. Summer/Fall Up/Down Good/Bad Cats/Dogs -- I don't know what's going on.

Here is what i came up with for my capsule wardrobe so far: http://1drv.ms/1s8tPhP but these numbers aren't adding up to golden.

I think I need a change of tactic.

I think I'm going to switch things up a bit here and:

Go through my 2 under-bed drawers + closet + coat closet + shoes stash methodically and start by getting rid of the items I don't like / don't fit in / don't wear all the time.

See where I'm at after that. I know I have a couple of items that are going to be sentimental keeps that may or may not have exact room in my wardrobe, but I will try my damnedest to decrease this number.

And then go about building a capsule with dream/concept items included (like a damn leather jacket).

And then I'll see where I am with the official steps.

So, I'm pushing pause on this day's exercise. Tonight, I will go through at least my underbed drawers and catalog/purge in a first sweep kind of way. Pics are totally coming. Then I'll come back to this capsule wardrobe business - probably with visual representation.

Diet Side Goal - NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa

I'm pretty dialed in here. Depending upon what the doctor says, I may do something additional with nutrition.

Nothing to do here. The doc cleared my nutrition, so I'm continuing with the track I am on.

@AverageJoe: Taking care of yourself is totally not slacking off. It's better to not completely jack yourself up to the point you are out for weeks. A lesson I have to constantly remind myself of. Hence my begrudging taking of ibuprofen last night to try and anti-inflame my hips. I pouted, but I took it - after directive from the hubbs and grumbling.

Glad to hear the acupuncture went well - I so need a job with health benefits, I'm way too stingy to pay for that kind of thing out of pocket unless I'm desperate :P

+10000000 to a lightsaber party! I don't really know what that is, but in my mind it's like a cross between a rave and a comiccon.

And yay for CSA tomatoes! Also, I'm really digging how in depth your wardrobe goal is, even if you're going off plan a bit. I might have to return to this for future inspiration.

Me, too, though I hope my back quits being kinda not quite hurt-y but not quite normal soon. I think I remember this feeling from the last time I did acupuncture - and from what I remember, the Chinese lady wouldn't let me work out at all. I think I'm going to do something on the easier side today -- I'm going to try for kickboxing instead of the 50 burpees + 60 minutes of jogging the Spartan WOD prescribes. Maybe. I don't know if kickboxing is a fine idea or the worst idea ever. Burpees is probably not the best idea, and I know jogging is out. This business is confusing and frustrating.

I'm not 100% sure what this lightsaber party is, either, but it looks kind of fun.

I'm kind of digging the wardrobe thing, too, and I hope to get things solidified into one solid plan after digging through what I already have and like for guidance. I'm thinking that will help identify places I can dream a bit about what I want and don't have (like a damn leather jacket). Possibly from this place and possibly this jacket. Maybe. I want something a bit more cost-effective but still good enough quality to last forever and pretty much everything else I see that I love is $300-$2,500.

I am soooooo happy to FINALLY have good tomatoes. Bought some $7 heirlooms from TJs and they were not even remotely exciting. I think they may even have been hot house. The babies I got in my CSA taste like the sun and are pretty much all I can think about right now. :) My lettuce is doomed.

I'm stuck on a drizzle of good balsamic + a sprinkle of kosher salt & cracked black pepper.

For today's lunch, I'm thinking about breaking away from my standard and going for a lime & basil combo.

And oh, dammit, now that we're talking oldschool tomato cravings, my brain remembered my all-time childhood favorite summer dish: tuna salad on half an English muffin topped with a slice of American cheese + a thick slab of tomato and broiled until the cheese gets melty. Followed by more tomatoes, halved with salt & pepper.

My go-to food, that I probably ate at least 4x a week, back in the day, was well-buttered toast, topped with cheddar cheese, and very thinly sliced tomatoes with S&P. Easy comfort food at its finest. Why is it that tomatoes taste best with cheese? A good blt with cheddar, caprese salad, on top of pizza... Ugh. At least the garden fresh ones are so amazing on their own that even a little salt and pepper will do the trick.

Goal 1: Fitness - aka be capable enough to escape the Joker whenever

4-5 days per week; Spartan WODs + fitness-style yoga + be flexible when needed + pull-ups & handstand work if possible.

Today was an odd one. I was still sore/weird from acupuncture, making the planned Spartan workout (50 burpees + 60 minutes jogging) a no-go. Yoga fallback was a little uncertain, too, so I ended up making shit up for 30 minutes.

5 sun salutations

runner lunges

10 leg kick-outs/side going into holding half moon for a 10-count

25 plank jacks

25 mountain climbers (per leg)

15 side elbow oblique plank dips (per side)

25 Russian twists

25 bicycle crunches (per leg)

15 leg rips

50 scissor jump lunges

100 squatty twists

50 knee pushups (25 regular / 25 chataranga style)

10 warrior 3 pops per side + 10 seconds hold at end

5 crow attempts

5 handstand pops (working on being gentle enough to do a freestand)

30 lunges

35 side lunges/warrior 2 pops

15 leg swings (front) (per side)

Goal 3: Socials - Like With Superfriends & Shit

Forcing myself to be social: I'm aiming for once a week out of the house (aside from weekends) doing something that is either directly social (like attending a meetup, game night, book club, actually going out with a friend, etc.) or on my way to social (I'm counting going to the doctor as a social activity because my doctor is through Freelancers Union and they have 99999 networking and social events).

Book club is Saturday, and I may end up going to a massive lightsaber party in Washington Square after book club.

Today, I purged my t-shirt/socks & undies drawer.

Long sleeve tees/winter shirts:

Start

I still don't quite understand this 'dress for winter' business. I started with:

2 medium weight sweaters

2 light sweaters

1 sweat shirt

12 long sleeved tees

2 long non-tees

1 Underarmour cold shirt

And this is what I whittled to:

xJTE6te.jpg?10 medium weight sweaters (I hated both)

1 light sweater

1 sweat shirt

8 long sleeved tees

2 long non-tees

1 Underarmour shirt

Which brings us to tees. I've already done a massive amount of whittling here when we moved. But, since printed tees don't even fit into the wardrobe, more whittling is in order.

81MWtwm.jpg?1Starting with:

5 "grownup" tees

9 printed tees

9 tank tops

Whittled down to:

IqgVbWv.jpg?1

2 sports ball tees (1 Brooklyn Cyclones + 1 Cincinnati Reds)

2 "location" tees (1 Brooklyn + 1 'Never Forget Your Roots')

4 printed tees (zombies, dachshunds, monkey skulls, allsaints spitalfields, tokidoki sushi)

3 nerd tees (battlestar, star wars, dr. who)

1 "grown up" tee (blue with copper stripes)

1 3/4 sleeve striped tee

4 tanks (black base layer, grey tank, orange tank, black technically sports tank - brooklyn nets)

You'd think I actually care about sports from my wardrobe ... and I totally don't. The Reds can go; Brooklyn can probably go ... I wear my cyclones shirt at the 1-2 cyclones games I go to per year; and I really like the nets tank, despite the subtle sports logo.

Socks & undies got a whittling too while I was at it.

Up next: pants, pjs & workout clothes (probably on Monday).

Diet Side Goal - NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa

I'm pretty dialed in here. Depending upon what the doctor says, I may do something additional with nutrition.

Nothing to do here. The doc cleared my nutrition, so I'm continuing with the track I am on.

It wasn't too bad, and bonus: my back actually felt *better* after doing what I wanted to do and holding up dog as long as I wanted to hold it for. :)

Donate all of the clothes! Which reminds me that I really need to do the same.

Oh and the banana ice cream stuff is so amazeballs! That was literally the recipe that convinced me to buy a food processor.

Good job on making up a workout. Something is better than nothing :)
