Silmarilliane's Second Challenge

Recommended Posts

Greetings. I am Silmarilliane and I’m a nerd.

I completed my Level 1 challenge with an A- and levelled up. I have decided to join the adventurers as it sounds the most relevant to me, and adventuring sounds fun :D

I'll be starting this on Monday 28th July.

My main quest is the same as my Level 1 quest, as it is still relevant:

To be less flabby in general and fit better into a UK size 12 (currently buy stretchy size 12!)

I’ve managed to lose a few inches and a few pounds during level 1 and want to keep going on it.

My Goals for Level 2:

·         Complete this total body training with only dumbbells three times per week

·         Do a press-up challenge – start at 9 on day one and increase by one each day to 50 on the last day

·         Do cardio/HIIT at least twice per week, which includes a Zumba class I go to

As well as that I’ll be tracking calories as I normally do (currently 1400 per day, but may increase it slightly with the added weight training). I have a couple of things like weddings and a hen do during this six weeks, so will allow myself three days within the 6 weeks that I am allowed to go over calories.

My nerdiness and general interests include: Star Trek (particularly Voyager), Buffy, LOTR, Sherlock Holmes, Board Games, RP Computer Games, Poi, Am-drams and crochet.

Suggestions for mini-challenges and side quests welcome, also, am I cheating myself by having two rest days a week instead of my previous one?!

toodle pipski!

2 rest days? Considering all that you're doing; I would have put more per week so you don't burn out but that's just me.

Do you have a way to grade your goals? Like an A, B, C per week or something?

Weekly Mini challenges are here: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/50982-mini-challenges-please-follow/

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a personal message or post at the Tavern: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/50989-tavern-ask-questionschat/

Good luck and have fun :)

Good luck with your second challenge!  I wouldn't worry about having two rest days, especially since you're strength training--your body will need recovery periods to build muscle.  If you end up itching to do something on your rest days, you could go for a walk or do some stretching.

Thanks - I only had one rest day a week last time and it was quite hard!! I tend to do a lunchtime walk anyway but I could add in an after work walk, or some yoga if I'm feeling like I need to do something!

Thanks :) I don't want to go to more than 2 rest days as I become more lazy the less active I am!!

My goals are very much a yes or no to pass it, and 'yes' to all will give me an A. For each 'session' I miss I'll drop down to an A-, then B+, B, B- etc. I'm not planning on missing any though so I have to mark them all in my diary in advance to remind myself :D

The mini challenges look good - I've followed. I'm already doing a pushup challenge as part of my 6 week challenge, but I'll look in on next week's one thanks!

Subbed! I've always been intrigued by Zumba - does it live up to the hype?

Thanks!

I've been to a few different classes and it really depends on the teacher. One guy was amazing, really pushed you, and one woman was all 'hairography' and staring at herself in the mirrors!

The one I go to now is quite a social one and maybe leaning more towards dancersize with Zumba elements. Burns about 500-600 cals for the hour, so better than sitting on the sofa, and loads of fun :D

LOL @ Hairography. I might work that into my programme to strengthen my neck muscles and my sass-meter :D

Enjoying getting up and getting pushups done - I never used to understand people who started the day with pushups or sit ups but it's good to accomplish something before the day has begun :)

My mind went slightly forward-thinky though. I was doing my 11 for the day (with DOMS from Monday) and had a brief moment of doubt that I'll actually be able to get near to my 50 in a row...

That kinda thinking can be dangerous and lead to 'might as well give up now' thoughts. Have to not think about weeks ahead and focus on today!

You'll be stronger then because you're getting stronger every day. You'll be able to do 50, don't let your brain trick you into self doubt!

Because I'm organised, for any'o'y'all interested here's my weight training plan for the challenge. I'm doing this three times per week, the first day will be 3 sets of 8 reps of each. The second day will be 3 sets of 10 and the third 3 sets of 12. This may be reduced to 6,8,10 at week three for the lighter exercises, and week five of the heavier ones just because of the big jump in weight (silly dumbbells) - I'll attempt 8 on the first day of them anyway :D

Edit - silly table disappeared, will try to add as pic (apologies for tiny size!)

So far I've done my 3x8 on Monday and 3x10 yesterday.

That's why I liked the idea of Superman Showers and did them last challenge. It's like starting off your day with a little dose of bad@ss.

Weight loss/food addiction is just like any other major issue- 1 day at a time.  This isn't a sprint- it's a marathon.

Wohh, cold showers... I once had a shower so cold it burned my head and gave me a headache. though i guess that was a one off, I'm not sure I'd be able tough it out!

1 day at a time should definitely be my motto :) thanks for the encouraging words, and also the impossible website which I'm now going to trawl!

So far so good, started on the heavier weights on Monday, and had Zumba yesterday (with one song that is DEFINITE prancersize)

My first 'day allowed over calories' is coming up on Saturday with a Hen Do... hopefully I don't go so overboard I undo the last two weeks. I'll have to keep up my water challenge anyway so that should help any possible hangover on Sunday!

If anyone's on myfitnesspal and is interested in food diary stalkerage, this is me here if you want to 'add' me: http://www.myfitnesspal.com//silmarilliane/

Out H20-ing a hangover sounds like a fun game to play! I added you on mfp too. The Van Dykes will be so proud of your progress!

The Hen Do ist just one night. After that you're back to your normal routine, so it's probably going to be just a small blip on the radar (if at all).

You got this! :)

And really... prancercise??? *shudders*

:nightmare:

Yes, and hopefully I can dance off most of the calories - part of it is a fun dance class and then a club in the evening (where I can bust out my prancersise!)

Haha, it's fun - step step gallop, step turn gallop. Best is when you add horse riding hands :D

Yay for dancing! :triumphant:

Hm. I wonder if Rosie (my part-time horsey) would like to join me for a round of prancercise??? I might try that next Friday (but only if there's no one else around, though!). :D
