TennisGeek's Changeover Break

TennisGeek

Recommended Posts

Hello, hello fellow rebels.

It's me, TennisGeek, the man who is obsessed playing tennis. I do a few other things but it's all about tennis seriously.

The main quest -

I'd like to be the best tennis player I can be, but, sometimes the life calls for a break, just like any tennis match takes 90 second break every two games.

This is my 3rd challenge as a Ranger, and 7th overall. This challenge is not a level-up challenge but I'll maintain the body until my kid starts college. It would be a bit of change in my life.

Goals

1. PLP Challenge

Continue PLP I started after the last challenge. Today (Friday) is the day 5.

At the end of challenge, it's day 49. It's pretty scary. I'd like to complete PLP 60 or longer.

2. Longer Ride

I'd like a bike ride more than 60 miles which is the longest ride I've done.

3. Better Food

No more wheat flour. I can resist the pasta, but bread has been difficult to ignore.
I'll allow myself once a week of beer, but no bread, pasta or any of baked goods. I'll get as close to gluten free as possible.

4. Life goal - sending my kid to college

Enough said.

5. Side quest - playing in a USTA sanctioned tourny

I've never played in a USTA tournament ever. I'd like to play one during the challenge.

Let's play!

Best of luck with the transition of kid to college - it was a huge adjustment for me while she did just great.

How often are you playing tennis?  Do you have a club nearby?

I play 3, 4 times a week if not more at Weston Racquet club which is 10 minutes drive.

The club is unique. Summer time, I just show up and find someone to play.

If noone is around the club provides a hitter. They usually have 2, 3 college kids.

There are some hitters who are really really good.

Winter time, I call in to book a court and the club finds someone to play with me.

It's a bit expensive club but I can play as much as I like. So, for tennis junkie like me, it's a great deal.

I payed 4 times already this week and will play tomorrow. Sunday looks like it's going to rain. So, 5 times this week.

After bike commute I went out to play again. My legs were a little tired but it's fun hitting ball.

Nice set up!!   I don't know many people around here who play tennis and rarely see a court that's not at a school.  Good luck getting to a tournament!!

Great to see you back for more, TG! :)

Looking forward to seeing you smash the PLP, and hoping for pictures from your longest bike ride ever! :encouragement:

And of course fingers are already crossed for your tourny! Do you already have a specific tourny in mind, or what are your options there?

I just checked out  USTA (US tennis association that is) web site and there is one close by in August.

It's at Harvard (the college that is).

Once no schedule conflict is confirmed, signing up!

I think I'll be playing 4.0 tourny.

Thank you!

Tennis is not an easy sport to start. You have to learn a lot of things to have real fun.

First of all, serving is the hardest thing, yet without it, you cannot start the game.

OTOH, once you get to certain level, it's really fun. It's as much physical as mental. That aspect makes tennis infinitely more interesting.

Hi positivity group buddy!  I love your challenge.  It seems really well tailored to you.  How are the first few days treating you? Also, how are you doing your PLP (increasing by one every day or every other)?  Can't wait to see you rock this.

I fully intend to not rock this challenge. No negative, seriously.

I'm going to survive August and September, that's my goal.

PLP - day 9 today. Before I left home, I did 9 pull ups. I am going to do lunges and push ups this afternoon.

This week (2nd - 14), and next week (3rd - 21), I know I can do it.

4th week and on, it's "to boldly go where I've never been before" kind of fear.

Gluten - yesterday, I fully enjoyed a whole wheat pita and beer. Fail.

Ummm. Me? Inspiration? Okay. I'll take it.

IG, you know, this is the year 2 of my journey to becoming better tennis player by conditioning.

Compared to last year, the level of effort is probably half.

Last year, I literally worked my butt off. Exercise, food, cooking. I have never worked so hard on my body.

This year, the priority is a little different. I'd like to spend good summer.

Looking forward to the vacation next week.

PLP day 9 - done!

Gluten free -

I was almost gluten free all day. But last thing I ate is When Pigs Fly Low carb whole wheat bread + almond butter.

I bought this bread last week, and since I only eat one slice at a time, it's lasting forever.

When I go play tennis, I'd like a bit of carb (I'm about to leave), and this is the kind of stuff I'm allowing myself to eat.

I think that rice or potato is better but it's really convenient to have bread in the fridge. Once it's gone, it's easier to be gluten free.

Subbing your challenge, positivity group buddy!

Looks like you have a great tennis club. Around here, most neighborhoods have a tennis court, but finding someone to play is hard.

Also, are you trying to go grain free or just gluten free? Pamela's makes a great whole grain gluten free bread mix that you could bake and freeze if you still want to have a slice or two here and there.

I am looking forward to hearing all about the tournament! :)

My food is quasi paleo. For the convenience and my preference, it's

paleo + soy/tofu + diary like cottage cheese.

Generally speaking, I don't eat a lot of grains.

I should eat some rice. It's a good starch compared to wheat flour.

I don't touch pasta anymore. I used to love it but it's completely off from my plate.

Bread, however is very hard to get rid of. I like it a lot and it's really convenient.

Once I finish the rest of low carb bread, I will not buy any kind of flour product.

Near my house there are two good gluten free bakeries. It's pretty expensive however.

Oh, I should mention.

There is an entity near my house, the evil empire called "Iggy's bread of the world".

This establishment delivers the awesome weapon called "Cranberry nut bread".

They also produce equally awesome destructive weapons such as whole wheat sourdough rolls etc.

My company daily gets bread and rolls from the evil empire, and they sit and trap you in our company kitchen.

They are clearly planning world concurring evil deed.

I cannot tell you how many times I've follen to there weapons...
