Fellow Rangers! I am writing you this from the depths of the Canadian Amazon Jungle. My adopted tribe has sent me here as part of my transformation from hobbit to Amazon warrior. 

 

Though I am a hobbit, my Ranger class suits the skill set needed to become a true Amazon warrior - that is, an Amazon must be equipped and ready to handle many situations. The (non-NF) Scouts I met during my last challenge have invited me to train for and complete an 8k run in October, so my tribe has sent me here to train with them. Of course, I represent the Amazons and so must attain excellence, so I must compete against as well as train with these Scouts. 

 

So my Challenge is:

 

TRAIN FOR 8K RUN (Part 1)!

 

1. RUN!  STA +3 CHA +1 DEX +1

My tribe has given me scrolls containing ancient scout training. I've already started it - Tuesday will mark the beginning of week 3 - and it will continue past the end of this challenge.   

13 Week Beginning Runner's Handbook - Run/Walk 10k training - TUES/THURS/SAT - track on Nike+

2. LIFT!  STR +3 CHA +2

There is a small Amazon training arena near where I live. There, I am to lift heavy things repeatedly, 3 days a week. I am NOT to skip core bodyweight exercises, but must do at least 30 seconds of planks and 3 sets of back raises. 
MON/WED/FRI

 

3. TRACK! STA +3 WIS +2

I failed in my last attempt to track what I ate with words and numbers, so this time I am to track with pictures. I must send them here regularly.

Workout for today:

Bench press: 10lbs 5x3

Lat pull down: 70lbs 5x3

Seated row: 70lbs 5x3

Modified pull down (chin up): 70lbs 5x3

Bicep curl: 17.5lbs 5x3

Tricep press: 12.5lbs 5x2, 10lbs 1x8

Can't remember what they're called but it works the pecs and shoulders: 25lbs 5x3

Back raises: 10x3

Plank: 39 sec, 30 sec.

My body is doing weird things. Losing inches in almost every area except the middle section.... from the waist to the hips.... and that part I am gaining?? My body is odd.

Good start and those pics have made me seriously hungry. Mmmm. Muffins. 

 

My body does weird things too. I remember one month I lost 2 inches from my neck and nothing else. I think it must have been an error. I don't think I have a massively fat neck. *goes to check*

So................................

 

 

 

My phone went caput this morning. 

 

Like......

 

 

it was at 20% battery, and then 10 minutes later it was dead. No amount of plugging in to chargers of any sort have helped. 

 

And, on it was my Nike+ app, for tracking my running....

and the camera app, for tracking my food....

 

and I searched and searched for my iPod nano, because it has a Nike+ app as well.... but to no avail. I am very frustrated right now. 

I actually don't even have a watch that I can time my runs with.

And because I am 3+ hours from the nearest Apple store........ sigh...............

This shall be my plan:

 

Tracking Running:

Stage 1. Go to the gym and run on the treadmill, until such time as:

- I find my iPod Nano 

OR

- I find a watch

 

Stage 2. Run with iPod or watch, until such time as:

- I go to the Apple store in Vancouver/Nanaimo/wherever in middle of August and get my iPhone fixed 

 

Stage 3. Run with fixed iPhone. 

 

Tracking Food:

 

a ) If I am eating in my house, I shall attempt to take a picture using the laptop camera, and attempt to load it up here. No promises though. 

b ) If I am eating outside of my house, or if trying to hold my laptop awkwardly over my food and lining up my mouse to press the camera button gets too idiotic, I will just track the old fashioned way and write it out, here. #doublesigh

Treadmill'd it up!

 

Run3 walk2 x 8

 

I had some issues figuring out interval training on the treadmill, so I actually restarted it after my first set accidentally. So, it says I ran 2.66 miles in 40 minutes, but I actually ran/walked for 45 minutes, for a longer distance. But let's pretend 2.66 miles is my distance for today. (4.28 km for us metric folk). 

 

Glad I persevered and ran, even on a treadmill. I am happy now, not uber frustrated anymore. Yay happy hormones!

Food:

 

Breakfast:

 

Quick-cook oats with icecream. Yes, icecream. I'm low on groceries and I have no milk so I needed to improvise. 

Incidentally, it tasted awesome.

Also, fried egg with salsa. 

 

Lunch:

blueberry bran muffin and a slice of blueberry loaf.

 

Supper:

Leftover pasta sauce made into asian-style sauce with sauteed veggies over rice stick. Sweet chili thai sauce and a little sriracha make things taste guud. :D

Dang I'm awesome. Just want to say that.

 

Might have something to do with the fact that I am sitting in a VERY clean bedroom, eating a VERY delicious meal. *ahem. yes, at 10:56 pm...*

 

Of course, I am sitting in my bedroom because the rest of my house is a disaster still. Well, except for my bathroom, but there are limits to where I'll eat food. 

 

The reason my bedroom is so spectacularly clean is I have a friend coming to stay with me for the long weekend, and since I don't expect anyone to step foot inside my place when it is a hovel, much less stay for a weekend, I decided I'd bring out my cleaning muscles and tidy up the place. Thank God I don't have a huge house. 

Progress on hovel shovel-out: 2/4.5 rooms. Not bad! 

 

Back to Ranger business!

 

What I ate today:

 

Breakfast:

1/3 cup quick-cook oats, 1 egg stirred in whilst cooking, and 1/2 cup ice cream on top. Tomorrow is grocery day, huzzah!

 

Lunch: 

Last of the asian-ified beef pasta sauce, over rigatoni. 

 

Supper, which I just finished, and it was SO YUMMY:

Oven roasted lemon-pepper chicken thigh, oven roasted mixed veg, and quinoa/red lentil risotto. Protein FTW!

Today I ran on the treadmill again...

y'know, it helps having a tv on at the gym. Makes treadmill running not so incredibly boring. Murdoch Mysteries yeah! 

 

R2W2x7... it's lovely that I now think that running 2 minutes is easy. Beginning of last week it was not. 

 

Ran/walked a total of 2 miles. Yay for getting to put that on the mini thread! Will convert it shortly....muahahaha. 

 

Ate for breakfast an egg, 2/3 of a tomato, salsa, and 1/3 cup quinoa/red lentil risotto. 

Lunch: Chicken thigh and 1/2 cup risotto. 

 

 

Edit.... 

Supper:

Moar yummy lemon-pepper chicken, and the last of the risotto, with sauteed vegetables! (Cabbage, onion, mushroom, and mixed frozen veg.)

 

Edit 2.0....

 

1/2 Tim Horton's chocolate mint donut. Couldn't resist. Someone brought back a box from their trip. I only ate half though! LOL.

Gym time! 

 

Bench press: 10lbs 5x3

lat pull down: 80lbs 5x1, 70lbs 6x2

seated row: 80lbs 5x1, 70 lbs 6x1, 5x1 (I think). 

modified pull down (would it be a seated chin up??) 80 lbs 5x2, 70 lbs 6x1

standing fly thingie with the cables: 30 lbs 5x1, 25lbs 6x2

bicep curl (with cables): 20lbs

tricep press (with cables)... turns out my math is lacking and apparently I've been doing 12.5 lbs and 10 lbs, not 17.5 and 12.5. Whatevs.... : 12.5 5x1, 10lbs 8x2 

**** my left tricep starts popping when I get about 3 reps into the 12.5, and about 4 or 5 into the 10lbs. What's up with that??

plank: 34sx2

back raises: 10x2, 12x1

also.... 5 knee pushups! Huzzah! I found them less strenuous on my pecs/shoulders than I have in the past. YAYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I got a compliment today. Someone said to me, "Your arms are looking really slim!" I'm like, "I know, right?!" No modesty there. 

 

I am one step closer to having Evangeline Lilly-esque arms. Booya.

Yesterday I went for a 4.5 km walk with a friend who has come up for the weekend. Yay!

 

Also, foods:

 

Breakfast: 

Banana/coffee/whey protein shake. Not yummy with the coffee - I think because I didn't have any frozen components. 

 

Lunch: 

Carrot sticks and mushrooms and a chicken thigh. Not nicely roasted or baked. Nope. I battered them suckers. With quick oats and flour and paprika and garlic and bbq seasoning and salt. And then I fried them - in oil. (Well, tenderflake lard, actually). I know. 

But dang, it was so

so 

SO 

delicious. 

Especially the carrots and mushroom. Forget yams, man. Carrots are the way to go. Actually scratch that, I love yams.

 

ANYWHOO!

 

Supper was:

veggie/lettuce/chicken rice wrap with thai sweet chili sauce. 

 

Living on one's own has forced me to actually learn how to cook well. If I don't make good tasting food, then sucks for me, there's no one else to make yummy food! 
So I have ADAPTED! MUAHAHAHA!!

 

Also, I have stumbled upon this book. If anyone wants to buy it for me, I'd be more than happy.

Here's some updates........ ! 

 

Today:

 

Workout: 

As it is the Civic Holiday here... aka BC Day, the gym wasn't open. BUT! I did do *some* exercises. I actually took it supremely easy today, partly because yesterday was supposed to be my rest day and I actually ended up being active almost all day long.

Pushups: 5 (knee)

Plank: 35s

back raises: 10x3

 

Tolja I took it easy. 

 

Ate:

Breakfast: 2 eggs w/veggies, toast, coffee

Lunch: Chocolate protein powder smoothie with banana and milk

Supper: "Unstuffed" cabbage rolls, about 3 cups

Dessert: 1/2 marzipan chocolate bar, grape crush pop. 

 

Yesterday (Sunday):

 

Ate:

Lunch: Leftover quinoa risotto and honey ginger chicken thigh, banana

Supper: SUSHI <3 <3 <3 ...... agedashi tofu, ebi sunomono, spicy scallop roll, a house roll with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and apple (sooooo good!) .... shared with a friend who took me out for supper! :D

Dessert/Snack: Mini Magnum dark chocolate ice cream bar, about a cup of Miss Vicki's chips

 

Was supposed to be rest day, but my friend and I went to the beach, hiked around a trail, jumped in this amazing spot in a local river with all our clothes on.... man I love summer! .... and ended up walking around the waterfront after supper and went down to the dock. Again.... I love love love summer!

 

Saturday:

 

Workout:

Ran on treadmill: R3W2x9

Good times.

 

Ate: 

Breakfast: 2 Scrambled eggs with veggies and toast, coffee

Lunch: Chocolate Protein powder smoothie with banana and milk

Supper: Honey ginger chicken thigh (2) with Quinoa risotto and salad (from mah garden.... omnomnom)... with fresh herb vinaigrette

Dessert: Mini Dark Chocolate Magnum ice cream bar...like 5 Miss Vicki's chips, and a Grape Crush pop

 

ehhhh...... I think that's all for now.

Today, I watched Law & Order: UK.... while I ran on the treadmill. Interesting episode. Moral of the story: don't sleep with prostitutes because you'll get herpes and give it to your wife and then she is not happy. 

Good times....

 

R3W2x8: 2.7 miles

 

Was glad, after all, that I went. I didn't want to, as I was physically tired today. Definitely don't have the stir-crazy my-body-needs-exercise energy that it used to. But I went, and did it anyway. Thankfully, the 13 week walk/run program I am doing builds in rest weeks, for such times as this. This is a rest week..... thank you Jesus. 

 

Incidentally, I wasn't paying attention to my time and I actually ran for 4 minutes on one set with no problem, which is cool. Nice to see progress.

 

I am going to eat my yummy leftover unstuffed quinoa/beef cabbage rolls now. I had a banana too.

 

And this morning I had another banana/chocolate protein powder/milk smoothie for breakfast. A little cinnamon in it makes it taste WAY better.
