Don't let them push you around in the gym. I got lucky, but I know folks can really just end up going through the motions and not pay attention to the person they actually have in front of them. Just remember, they need your permission too, not just the doc's!

Sounds like you're off to an awesome start!

 

My thoughts on foam rolling:  If it sucks while you're doing it, but feels so good when you're done, you're probably doing it right.

 

Walking pain free is a blessing so few appreciate until they lose it.  Glad to hear you are doing better.

I got my program at the gym tonight and I feel like I was listened to somewhat. I think it's very much just a first step and will be tweaked a fair bit but you gotta start somewhere.

I did like the bit where she was reading the forms I filled out and she looked up at me very briefly and said "Gee you look good for 41" that was a nice little pump up.

Gotta love those compliments - must be doing something right! lol

Glad to hear it went reasonably well, hopefully it only gets better. Did you just talk, or was there a workout also?

I did a few reps of some of the weights just to get the right weight and form. I did one round of the interval training on the treadmill and a few minutes on the rower.

Depending on how the tribe wake up tmrw I might try and get to the gym early to run through the program. I can't go Monday night so it would be nice to get a sneaky workout in the start the week.

1. Stretch and Roll

Nailed it. I did 15-20 minutes 6 times during the week.


 


2. Just add Veggies


Prepare 1 new vegetarian dish for dinner

Melanzane Parmigiana. It was the second time I had made it but I'm counting it! It was sensational again.


 


3. Early Riser


Up at 6:30 5 times per week

I had to adjust my alarm to 6:21 to allow for one snooze cycle and it seems to be working. I get up and I come downstairs and do my foam rolling and if it's an eating day i have breakfast so it's nice to not be rolling out of bed into the shower and rushing out the door. A much more civilised way to start the day.


 


4. Target Weight Loss


Sub 85 kg


On track.


I weighed in at 87.3 kg this morning which was my lowest Monday weight for 3 months. I was stricter on my fast days last week and also tried to instigate a no food after 8pm curfew which I think helps avoid some of the mindless eating that can be done after Emma is asleep and we get a chance to relax for an hour or so.


 


5. Train like an Athlete


Body weight/cardio program created.


So the program has been created and I have completed it once and I have a 1/2 marathon program that I am going to try and tweak for my purposes and see how I go.


I ran for the first time on Sunday when my attempt to go to the gym and do my program failed due to their early Sunday closing time. So I went for a walk and after 1km I turned for home and decided to try for a bit of a jog. I did a few hundred metres then walked then a few hundred metres then walked then took a different way home to give me a few hundred more metres of running. I could feel the strained area in the sense that it was tight but there was no pain and no discomfort.


When I did my workout at the gym today it turned out that the running intervals have me covering over 3 km's at various speeds and it was similar in that i could feel where I had hurt myself previously but it didn't hurt. I went and saw a different osteopath tonight and he gave me the all clear. He said that I was probably another week or 2 from being 100% but that I could continue to do easy runs as long as the feeling didn't cross over in to pain. He gave me some stretches to do and some more information on foam rolling. He is keen to get me fit for a 1/2 marathon and I am going back to see him in 2 weeks.


 


It was a pretty good first week. I'm in a pretty good place at the moment and I think that reflects in all areas of this challenge.

You definitely had a killer first week! Glad to hear the injury is starting to clear up, that's great.

I too have been getting up earlier on weekdays, and I cant believe how much it improves my mood and energy levels for the day. Like you said, not rushing to shower and get out of the house let's you start your day off properly, and it makes a difference.

I'm excited to see what your vegetarian item is this week!
