IronGlider Optimises Bodyware & OS - Challenge 6

Recommended Posts

IronGlider Prepares for the Final Countdown!

Welcome to my 6th challenge! To recap, I'm 24, from the UK finishing up on University and preparing for big change in my life. Before 03/10/2013, I've always been overweight/obese for my age for as long as I can recall. This isn't my first time I've attempted for change, as in prior years I've struggled from balance, pressure, eating the right things (I'm vegetarian btw!) etc.

...but I've been trying to make this third strike count!

So, as of my last 9ish months in my post-NF life I have been documenting my progress + completed five challenges and have currently lost 78lbs and I hope to keep that up in order to fulfil my current main quest, reach my BMI-intended weight range (175lbs - 165lbs)

I kid you not when I say that discovering NerdFitness has been the best thing for my health and wellbeing, it's transformed my perspective, my approach... and me! This is well and truly the furthest I've ever gone, and (so far) I already feel great! I just need to slay this dragon and then move to the next!

Picture Progress: (Again, instead of posting every single month here, I'll just put the starting and current/challenge picture progress here:)

Missions:

So, the past 10 months has been great and I've undergone many things. However, I found the last challenge overly hard to manage. I think much of this is because I carried over many of my missions from my first challenge and added on top of them. Considering I was really busy, ill and fasting for ramadan, I'm shocked I'm still (somewhat) managed to keep on top of everything!

It all started to come at a cost though, posting on here less frequently. Since I'm still in quite a busy routine, I've decided that my Bodyware & OS thread needed a bit of streamlining for this challenge, dial and tone down a lot of the information (unless I'm struggling and need to report details).

I've enjoyed the last 10 months, but a person can change and especially learn quite a lot in that time, and this system is built to flex, so I'm going to place my focus less on detailing every-single-habit but rather, keeping up to date and that everything's going okay. I think it takes some courage to do this as it's demonstrating confidence with what I can do and that I have control. I think it'll be okay. We'll see.

Having more time for helping out my fellow rebels and being punctual is a must for this challenge! We're all in this together now! However, I don't want the terms 'streamlining' and 'minimal' to put off the excitement of a challenge. I don't want this to be about endurance or being complacent during challenging times. This can still be fun, exciting and as ambitious as any other challenge I've done. And I have an great idea on how to do this!

Mission 1: The Swing of Things!

M1 involves ensuring that every habit that I've built from the very beginning is still kept, and that the journey to health, fitness and well-being will one day be achieved.

- 2x 17hr Lite Fasts
- 2x 19hr Standard Fasts

- Implementing 24hr fasts once or twice a week (if necessary)

- Eating Healthily and have Fruit+Salad+Nuts when breaking my fast and balanced dinners
- Drinking herbal teas
- Keeping up with Exercises
- Measuring progress on Sundays
- Picture progress every month
- Restrict Internet Usage with StayFocusd Chrome Extension

- Meditation for 5mins morning/evening (Alt)

(the above rules are backed by the 'Never 2 a in row' rule, and are followed every Mon - Sat)

NOTE: I longer need to detail these habits on a daily basis as long as they are followed. I will only detail anything out of the ordinary.

Mission 2: Keeping on Top Form!

M2 is about ensuring I get the most of being active 6 times a week! This involves 3x Interval Jogging (with small additional mini-workouts) and 3x Level 4 Renegade Workouts!

Mission 3: IronGlider 0verride!

M3: Think I'm boring? Sick of tired of hearing I have mushroom fungus everyday? This'll break the monotony!

A system error has occurred in the OS! This causes IronGlider to shut-down everyday for a minimum of 20mins for 6x a week to practice a associated routine inspired from a fellow rebel. This is until BW&OS restores itself to its current image for the rest of the day.

Failing any of the tasks results in giving permissions to the rebel inspiring the routine to outlay a one-time punishment (subject to fair usage and laws) on IronGlider, lasting a maximum of 20mins.

Side Mission: Startup & Sleep Routines

This kinda got a little out of hand with most of the last challenge, as I was following a completely different routine to work with, so I willk reattempt now that things are a little more settled than before.

- Early Morning Startup Routine (Making bed, Jumping jacks, light clean, getting ready and packed, all within 20mins)

- Late Night Shutdown Routine (Getting ready, prep for next day, set/lower lighting, read/NF-catchup, sleep)

- Note down something to be thankful for that day, everyday except Sunday (that alone is something for me to be thankful for xD)

Challenge post updated!

It starts:

Well, considering eid was just yesterday and that I ate like a king xD (nothing unhealthy though, just a lot than usual) I won't count for the week (and will instead count Sunday, as I treated that as a normal day in order to eat leniently for Monday). It's been a great fun day, many relatives and some friends I haven't seen in a while. I was deeply humbled from all the compliments I was getting especially from family. Just reminded just how much this site has done for me! :-)

Day 1: My Sunday routine consisted on the usual eating and fasting, and went really well. Did interval jogging and pull ups too! Overall great start to this challenge.

This weeks 0verride mission is emulated from adventurer-sensation Teros!

photo-14925.gif?_r=1365172425

*applause*

"The way of Teros" will involve helping out the new NF rebels in the adventurers/level ones and/or tallying up 300sec (a.k.a 5mins) of planking for the rest of this week. With Monday now passed, it leaves me from now until Sunday to complete these objectives. When all activity total reaches 6, "The way of Teros" is complete and helps with challenge stats. If not, Teros has my permission to outlay a one-time punishment (subject to fair usage and laws) lasting a maximum of 20mins.

From the sig, I realized that you've lost 80lbs already.

Next time you go to grocery store, just hold a 5lb potato bag and imagine hanging 16 of them around your body.

Great work.

What's the reaction from people around you?

29/07/2014:

M1: Routines went well! (Although I did find it difficult to return to my original routine. I think it's just a matter of adjustment... perhaps post-ramadan blues?)

M2: Only a bunch of walking today :-/ Again, I found it difficult to dive 100% back into my normal routine after ramadan...

M3: Teros Challenge: Catching up with everyone and messaging where appropriate=check!

SC: Sleep was decent! Startup could've been better, I snoozed a lot and felt lethargic.

Thankful4: Not getting so lost getting back into my original routine that I end up relapsing.

30/07/2014:

M1: Great! A little bit easier than the day before.
M2: Yes! NF Warm up routine, 2x4 Pull ups, 20mins interval jogging outdoors, dips.
M3: Yes, but man, doing 5mins of plank is harder than it looks! I only ended up doing 2mins :-/. Mark my words I'll get better at it by the end of the week! 4 days is a long time in fitness!
SC: Again, sleep was decent (surprisingly, a little over) but start up felt weird. *sigh* my bodyclock has been all over the place in the last month, looks like it'll take more than a couple of days to fix...
Thankful4: Had a really nice cup of lemongrass and ginger. Also, my protein shake tasted ACE today... :-)

Great question! (Would've answered sooner if it wasn't for photobucket not working! xO)

Nothing major until this Monday (eid celebration), which was the first time I wore fitting clothes (and not ludicrously baggy clothing like usual) and was surrounded by a lot of people I haven't met in a long time. I really got a lot of praise with how far I come. A lot of people thought I was unrecognisable! It was still, I just kinda stood full of shy, gushed and humbled from the positive comments. :-) My Dad was especially keen, showing me prior images in my pre-NF life and seeing how far I've come. The best thing that's come out of it is that it's inspired my mon, dad and one of my sisters some hope for them that it's possible! :-)

You reminded me, I really ought to post an image of myself now that I hair a pair of fitting clothing, I did this on the same day (Monday). Hopefully it'll give context and scale compared to all the other half-naked images here xD

and there you go @Rookie, that was the outfit I bought! :-)

Oh man! Well done on the weight loss. Love the layout of the new challenge. Looking forward to keeping up with you again!

Looking good, IG!

The routine inspired by others sounds awesome! Good luck and hang in there!

Subbed. You are such an inspiration!

Thanks guys, much appreciated! :-) I'm still kinda doing the round with everyone, but don't worry I haven't forgotten about you awesome guys! :-)

I echo what T2sarahconnor says, you are an inspiration! Thanks also for the words of encouragement that you've given me before, they really helped. Your a champ.

No problem Bearlee, you've been a inspiring rebel in this odyssey of ours. Keep up the great work! :-)

31/07/2014:

It hasn't even been a week and my routine has changed! :-O

M1: Great, though today I did a ramadan style fast... even though ramadan is over. Basically I plan to do another tomorrow, Sun, Mon, Tue and Wed and then that's it! I decided to get back on as my sister had a few remaining (women usually do post-ramadan due to the menstrual cycle conflicting). She has quite a few to catch up on so I agreed to support her with doing an additional 6 days (today included). Let me just say... MAN it is hard to shift back into that, especially when I had 3 days of normal eating, I thought today would be easier, but nope! It's tricky, one can get lost with routine when this happens...

M2: Nope! :-( post-ramadan hardcore fasting has really taken it out of me today! :-(
M3: I still plan to match Teros at the plan, but today I couldn't aim for that due to shifting back out of my normal routine :-/ It was to be expected. Fortunately though I still ace'd this challenge today as I had more time for NF, whoppie! :-)

SC: Yet again, sleep was a little all over the place as I had to prepare myself for this routine again. Even waking up to cow's mooing on my digital clock didn't help! :-O

Thankful4: The amazing/aspiring community and fountain of knowledge that is NF... :-)

p.s. Soy sauce man, just realised today it contains MSG (even the supposedly 'healthy ones' I've been buying!) WTF!?!?! I switch to healthy noodles, just to sprinkle ontop minute amounts of MSG which somewhat makes it comparable to my older noodle choices! (mind you, soba/buckwheat/egg noodles are worlds apart from the bad carbs of instant noodles even with bad soy sauce) hmmm, gonna have to switch to something else... I've heart coconut soy sauce is good, any thoughts?

p.p.s I prefer this challenge format so much more compared to what I had before... xD

Are you referring to coconut aminos, like Coconut Secret?  If so, I've gone through 3 bottles of the stuff. It's awesome.

If you have questions, feel free to send me a message (How to PM and follow/ ) or post at the Tavern (Tavern ) . Don't forget to check out the minis if you want ( Minis).

Good luck and have fun this challenge :)
