Emmevee
Main Quest: Fit comfortably into my size Large Black Widow Hoodie from ThinkGeek! 1. Physical Fitness - I started Nerd Fitness partially to get inspiration for Body Weight exercises but I've never been able to commit. That changes with this challenge! This is seriously just a baby step in the right direction, but four times a week I will do one bodyweight circuit. This is as much about making a habit as it is about the movement. (If successful +5 STR) 2. Mental Acuity - Practice Italian (I'm going to Italy this fall!) four times each week for at least one direction of my commute to work. (If successful +5 WIS) 3. Diet - Upgrade a level in the Nerd Fitness diet levels. Right now I'm at a Level 7. Bump to a Level 8 for 6 days every week. (If successful +5 CON) Motivation: I want to be healthy so I can be active with my son and also fit better into shorts, which have been my nemesis since high school. Reward: If I do all this, I get the reward of looking awesome in the new hoodie! That's all I'm going to need this time around. 3 EmmeveeS.H.I.E.L.D. Jill Beat
So! Really fun news! I too get to go to Italy! And France. A friend of mine is going with a travel group, and the last trip they went on I was invited, but couldn't go because of school/$$/future job uncertainty. And then I regretted it. We hung out last night and she mentioned this next trip (in 2016) and without batting an eye, I said "I'm in!" After i saw her pictures from the last trip to Greece and Turkey, I vowed that I would take travel opportunities as they come. It's going to be expensive, but I have 2 years to save, I figured that if I teach 1-2 extra fitness classes a week for the next 2 years, I'll have made up the cost of the trip. 1 NF Challenge #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #8.5, #9, #10, #11, currently #12 Fitness with Jill on Facebook! Emmevee
Jill Beat - That's awesome! I LOVED France! And I really hope to be able to go there again next year, though I can't plan it out until Italy is in the books. What a great way to get to travel! Teros - Thank you! There will definitely be an after shot of the Hoodie. I love it to pieces so more than anything I want to have the damn thing zipped! 2 EmmeveeS.H.I.E.L.D. Emmevee
My baby started kindergarten this week, so I've spent most of it in a spiral of sadness and weepy happiness. I don't know, it's confusing! But amidst it all, I've been doing pretty well. Last week I hit all my goals, though it did mean doing two sets of body weight exercises on Saturday to keep up. This week I've already knocked out three of them! And I've got my son doing them with me, which has ended up being lots of fun. We call them our "Avengers Practice". He's really into it. I've also been listening to my Italian tapes and I've managed no dairy apart from the once a week allowed dairy. It's harder than I thought it would be though. If I don't see some improvement in SOME area by the end, I think I might add it back in. Or just add in butter, since that's where I'm struggling the most. Thanks for asking!!! 1 EmmeveeS.H.I.E.L.D. Feowyn
Our oldest is 5, but no sadness here because we do education at home . I hope you both adjust well to the new schedules. Way to kick but on your goals! It's so fun to have the kids "do exercises" too. It definitely makes it feel less like work. Good one on the Avengers practice. I may have to steal it. Cutting dairy is so hard! I'm not a big milk drinker except for my protein shakes, but I put cheese on everything! SleepyGi
Hey Emmevee, great quest and great news! The trip to Italy sounds super exciting--do you get to bounce around to a few cities or dig deep into one area? It's a win either way, because it's Italy. And congrats on getting through your son's first days of kindergarten! My oldest niece is starting in September, and even though she's been in daycare since she was a few months old, I'm guessing my brother and sister-in-law are still going to struggle with it! Your fitness and exercise goals look awesome, too. It sounds like you and I have suffered from that same sort of "I'll get to it, when I get to it" mindset when it comes to actually working out, so I'll definitely be pulling for you, and checking in to keep myself on track! I also love that your hoodie came from thinkgeek--definitely a favorite site for my husband and me. I can't wait to see you strutting your stuff in it! And last, giving up dairy...no easy task for sure. I'm sure you can do it, though, there are a lot of substitutes out there to make the transition easier. I also think that not going cold turkey (and keeping a dairy item or two around for a little while), is a smart way to approach such a big change. Even though I didn't really have trouble saying goodbye to any one food in particular, I missed the convenience. Dairy gets put in everything! In the end though, leaving it behind was so, SO worth it! My stomach doesn't go haywire nearly as often, I feel less bloated/gross, and I have less temptation to deal with since my local store doesn't carry too many of the dairy free version of processed goodies (so long m&m filled donuts!). I'd love to hear more about how that transition's going for you, and what new, delicious meals and treats you've had the chance to try or gain a new appreciation for--now that you sent dairy packing. As always, keep up the great work! Ranger, Level 3, 2014-09-15, 2014-07-28, 2014-06-09 Link to comment
RedPandaOne
Found you! (I tried to find a gif of that scene from Thor, but the few that I found weren't very good *sad face*). Good goals! You appear to be doing well, making up for missed exercise and what not. Italy was fun, you're going to enjoy it! Where exactly are you going? Major kudos for trying to give up dairy. It's something I could never do, so I'm always impressed by people who do (even if it's just for a little bit). "You won't find your answers by looking to the stars. Emmevee
Well, shit happens. My son is in the hospital for asthma and we've been here since last Thursday so I'm pretty much eating whatever people bring me, what I can find in the vending machine, or what he doesn't eat off his hospital tray. Needless to say I've had grain. BUT in terms of a win, here, I still haven't had any coke, despite total exhaustion and easy accessibility. I haven't been listening to my Italian since I'm not going to work, and I could be doing body weight work outs but I'm just too tired to care. So I don't think I'm going to grade myself poorly for this, or end the challenge early. My plan is to just allow that for the hospital duration trying the best I can is going to be enough, and then the big challenge will be getting everything back in order when we go home. Hopefully tomorrow! EmmeveeS.H.I.E.L.D. snark
I'm so sorry that your son and your family are going through this, and I'm glad that it sounds like he's coming through all right. Sounds like you're doing what you can to keep yourself functional and sane, on very little fuel and a lot of emotional stress. Calling it a challenge hiatus/break and then challenging yourself to get back in your groove when you get back to real life seems like the best way to handle things. Good luck, and hugs! Emmevee
I'm back and I was convinced I'd gained 5 pounds on hospital food and not having moved from my son's bedside for days, but I actually ended up losing a pound. So yay? Stress maybe? I'm not sure. I'm back to work today, though, and I packed my lunch with things I can eat, and I'm going to do my walk and try some bodyweight exercises at lunch. I also plan on listening to my Italian lesson on my way home, so now it's just... life. Back on track! I'm happy my pause didn't seem to set me back too much.
