Laureleye & the breaking of the fellowship

Laureleye

Recommended Posts

My quest for the rest of the Calendar year (at least) is just to take care of myself.

Goal 1:  Eat right.   I will track on MFP and maintain between +/- 100 of my MPF net calorie target.  Hoping to avoid junk but not setting anything specific for this.  1 star/day for staying within target, with bonus star for no grains.

Goal 2:  Take care of me.  Take supplements and medications at the correct time.  Saline rinse; hopefully every day, but missing two days in a row will be a fail for the week.

Goal 3:  Stay in motion.  3 of any type of workout/activity during the week.  I suspect at first, this will be mostly walking.

Life goal:  Ave 2 hours/week on creativity.  Knitting, needlepoint, furniture finishing, etc.

I have a conference in SC beginning Sept 8; I'll be leaving early to enjoy Asheville, NC on Sept 4th.  I am going to track while I'm gone, but I'm going to waive the calorie/grain targets.

We all like to dominate Monday, but the best I could do was survive.  Late Sunday, I had what I thought was a heart attack so I headed for the ER.  Fortunately it was just a massive anxiety attack.  I got home very late so I was pretty short on sleep when I started the day Monday.  We'd had a planned power outage so I came in a bit early to start all of the equipment up.  The LAN was fine, but no WAN access.  Turns out one of my switches keeps losing it's identity.  Finally got that resolved, at a working lunch and finished just in time for AT&T to activate our DSL.  Being in their usual state of readiness, the install took over two hours.  I got home late but I squeezed in 1.25 miles on the treadmill before I had to get ready to meet a friend for dinner.  Had some lovely trout, but was so low on calories, I had to resort to a scoop of Ben & Jerry's (poor me).  Got home too late to do the saline rinse, but caught everything else.  So started out pretty bad but finished up in style.  Of course, this morning I really paid for yesterday's lack of sleep.

Time for me to go find everyone's thread.

I had a better day today.  I'm going to try to do a reality check every day to ensure I don't push myself into another attack.  That was not fun.

Nothing wrong with starting with walking.

I did a slightly shortened mail-box run this evening, so I'll have gotten in 12,000 on a non-workout day.  Not bad at all.

I haven't made my star charts yet, so I'm going to hit that, and then bed.  I've taken tomorrow off, so I'll sleep in a bit (I hope).

We're glad to have you here in Scouts this time, Laureleye :) I really love walking, it's my favorite!

I put this in the Scout's forum???  Okey-Dokey.  Well, I guess I'll have to try to do some running, won't I?

I actually changed my FitBit/MFP settings at the end of the last challenge.  It seems to be working, because my Aria says I've lost 1.7 lbs in 10 days.  I am having one tiny problem - so advice would be welcome.  Because I'm feeding in varying amounts of exercise I need a different calorie level from day to day.  I've decided I need to sync my stuff as soon as I get home to get a better feel for things, but I still need to adjust on the fly.  Monday (ahem) I had Ben & Jerry's to even things out.  Last night a Baby Bel.  Any ideas for evening snack in case I need to boost my calories a bit?  I don't eat paleo, but I do eat clean.  Probably the only "packaged" food I eat is an occassional Kind bar.

I took today off.  I slept in a bit, then got up and did a jump-rope workout.  Jumping rope is great because it's pretty fast & it's a fairly full-body workout.  Boy I could tell I hadn't been doing much with my upper body!  I usually do 1 min jumping/1 min resting X6 + 2 min jumping.  I only lasted about 70 seconds on my last jumping turn.  I just jog a bit and do a few jumping jacks to warm up, then walk a bit to cool down.

We keep a jar of cashews which tend to be eaten as "extras" late at night.  and someone I know has trouble with just one serving/handfull.

That's a good idea.  Tonight I had 1/2 cup of (whole raw) milk.  I've been wanting to try raw milk for a while.  I took kitty to the vet and poor baby had to stay over night - I passed the health food store on the way home and nabbed some.  The taste didn't seem much different, but the texture did (but not in a bad way - just different).  I had a good day today with a mixture of goofing off and getting things done.  I hit a star for everything tonight, including creativity.  Sadly, my knitting didn't go well.  I messed up a pattern row & was backing it out and lost so many stitches I'm going to have to retreat about 6 rows to before the prior pattern row.

I was going to say maybe some sort of trail mix, or just cashews around.

Good to see you back at it.  Hopefully, no more anxiety attacks!

When you travel, do you take your needlepoint stuff with you to work on?

I used to always take knit or crochet on the plane, but haven't tried it in some years.  If I can come up with a smallish project I may try it again.  Folks at work asked me to teach knitting at lunch time, but I'm not 100% sure they were serious.

Oh dear, we're you intending to be somewhere else? I'd offer to move your thread there but I think by the time you answer I will have left town. Maybe @shukar can help. But I must say, I think you're right. Maybe take this as fate's way of telling you you're meant to start throwing a little running in with your walks and see where it takes you. Or as they say on um... that children's show I've forgotten the name of: "try it, you might like it"

I actually intended to be in the Rangers, but I'll stay now that I'm here.  I had been running or at least doing walk/run intervals, but I've dialed back to walking for a while because it doesn't take any mental energy.

I brought my cat home from the vet.  She had a growth inside her mouth, but the doc thinks it was benign.  The bad news for kitty is that she has to go on a diet.  He said no food for the rest of this evening, so I am not popular.  I paid some bills and things this evening, so I didn't get in any knitting (or actually un-knitting) time in, but I will tomorrow.  I'm working tomorrow, so I'll see how a run goes first thing in the AM while its still fairly cool.  Otherwise going well - this will be 3 nights running for a saline rinse.  I was (barely) into my calorie target range, and another day with no grains.  I got a little too worked up at work but talked myself back down.

Sorry you had the anxiety attack. Those can be very disconcerting!

Some basic breathing exercises - slow, rhythmic breathing to a steady count - can really help. Learned to do that before making entry on structure fires - calms the mind and conserves your air. It works wonders when stressed!

Hope your kitty feels better and forgives you soon!

Thanks for the tip; I'll practice.  Actually the polls show my popularity is waning further still.  The special diet (she is too heavy) plus antibiotic pills (for the surgery).  She's been under the bed and won't look at me.  I checked & she's looking perky...and mad.

A good day.

* Tracked within my target range & no grains.  I'm 5/5 on this.

* I ran a little less than a mile, but its a change from walking so I okay with the low distance

* Meds 5/5, hygiene 5/5, saline 4 days in a row now.

* 45 more minutes of knitting.  I ripped out and started forward and almost made it back to where I messed up.

* Baked my spaghetti squash for the Scout mini-challenge 1.  I haven't included it in a meal yet, but I tasted it and it is yummy.

I know I shouldn't weigh in every day, but the Aria is so much fun.  My (unwritten) goal was just to weigh in on Sunday to replace my WW weigh-ins.  I went to the doc's this morning and did blood draw for my upcoming physical.

Had a great day Saturday, except...ate a roll.  I started out the morning with 2 hours in the yard, including the ever-popular compost turning.  Did some laundry, changed the sheets and generally took care of business in the house.  I was told that I was going to have to re-fi my house, but I got the whole thing straightened out and set up several automatic payments.  While I didn't do a workout, I did get in  my 10,000 steps.  FitBit's new dashboard says I've only been lower than 10,000 two days in the last 30.  I got in some knitting time; fixed my issue and am making forward progress again.

I was a trifle on the antsy side today, but that was okay because I had a ton of little things to do.  So I read for a bit, did 1 chore, and so on.  What did I do?  Got some stuff packed up for charity & the pickup scheduled for Tuesday.  Ran the vacuum over the house really fast, packed up some stuff for returns and scheduled USPS pickup, put the laundry away, and did a freezer reorganization.  I don't think one person needs a side-by-side plus a full freezer.  I rearranged the freezers and put the ice cream and stuff out in the big freezer.  If I can't find someone who wants it soon, I'll just toss it.  I also made 5 breakfasts and 3 lunches.  I made up a big ol' mess of chicken stir fry.  I decided it might be good if I used some of my spaghetti squash like a bed of rice.  It was sooooooo good; and I have two lunches the same.  I made a quick trip to the grocery to pick up some fruits and veggies (including more spaghetti squash).

It is pretty humid here (for us).  It rained in the night, which is nearly unheard of in August.  It rained again about sun down, but I didn't I got in my mailbox loop anyway, for 10,000 steps again.

Week 1 summary:

Goal 1:  Eat right.   7/7 within target range; 5/7 no grains

Goal 2:  Take care of me.  7/7 taking meds; 7/7 hygiene; 6/7 saline rinse

Goal 3:  Stay in motion.  3/3 planned; walk, jump rope, and a lame run

Life goal:  Spent 3 hours knitting. I'm going to try to add some jewelry making to the mix this week, but it is a lot fussier work.

I've been weighing myself every day for awhile, but my scale went kind of wonky.  So I got the Aria last week, and I like it.  though I had to put a wooden board under it.  It seems even the bathroom floor linoleum was too soft, and it would have my weight really off.

Week 1 went off great it seems.  Hopefully, you will again become popular in the cat polls :)
