Mander's Motivated (again, for real this time)

Hello Rebels! (& Amira),

 

I’m here as a newb and determined to give this my all. My best friend was talking about this site she found where you act as if you were a character in a real life video game and training to level up your stats like in an RPG. I’m a huge Zelda fan. In fact, if I said I loved Link, it might be an understatement. I wear a gold Triforce necklace every day of my life, my phone case is Link sitting in a pocket with a Triforce on it and I carry around a Kingdom of Hyrule bag as my purse. When she told me about all the references to Zelda on the site, I just had to give it a look. And let me tell you, I’m glad I did.

This is my first challenge, obviously. I’ve been slowly getting my stuff together recently (…again) because I realized that I’ve put on 26 pounds since moving in with my boyfriend in October. I’ve always been a bigger girl, and I’ve been “trying†to reach my goal weight since I was 16. I’ve done okay up until this point. I used to be 218lbs, and I’m down to 177 right now. In October I was 153. I’m 5’5†and I’ve got a pretty average build, and I’ve always hid my weight well. Even now, people think I’m 150 and I’m like HAAAAAA, I wish. The last time I lost weight (June- October 2013) I did it by eating only lean cuisines and working out with Jillian Michaels and her 30-day shred, this time I plan to do it with homemade super-food breakfast smoothies, fresh – never frozen-  meals, working out, and a lot of water.
I’m here as a heroine on a quest and a supporter of my people. I won’t and can’t fail [myself] this time.

MAIN QUEST

To get damn sexy and not have to refer to my calorie counter to see how much I’m still allowed to eat versus feeling full and knowing I don’t need to count calories to maintain or lose weight. I want to love working out and feeling like I’m living a healthy lifestyle while looking damn good doing it.

 

 

GOALS

1) Work out 3x a week or 3hrs a week

A: Work out Tuesday, Thursday, & Sunday

B: Work out Tuesday & Thursday (1.5 hours each)

C: Work out Tuesday & Thursday (1 hour each)

I’ve been going to the local CC to walk their track and jog up their stadium stairs every Tuesday and Thursday with a friend of mine. On the first day I did 4 sets and was tapped out. I saw people doing 10 sets of these stadiums and I was in complete denial that I would ever be able to do more than 5. Yesterday, the start of my 3rd week going (5th workout) I was able to accomplish 8 sets of stairs. There’s 84 steps and halfway up the steps get bigger. I plan to up my set every other time I go, unless I can honestly feel like I can push myself enough to up my reps every time. I’m excited to reach 10 sets, I’ll totally feel like I’m making progress (not that I don’t feel that way already) but it’s something that is a bit of a milestone for me, I was so shocked when I saw people doing them on day 1… I’ll get there. I do a half mile on the track then 4 sets of stairs and then briskly walk track for half a mile and then stairs again. In between stair sets I try to stretch or do something to keep my heart pumping – jumping jacks, crunches, wall push-ups or leg lifts.  
I also want to start doing the BBWW that was given to us on NF because I think it would totally whoop my ass into shape. I’ll start that tomorrow before my CC workout.

 

2) Drink Mas Agua

          A: Drink 72oz all 42 days

          B: Drink 72oz for at least 35 days

          C: Drink 54oz all 42 days

          D: Drink 54oz for at least 35 days

          F: Drink 33oz all 42 days

I’m a Massage Therapist (well, a CA State Certified Massage Practitioner) and with the amount of energy I use giving massages and releasing my clients tension, I should really be drinking more water. I also want to drink more water because I know how much it curbs your appetite, most of the time I do couch eating is because I’m bored and want to taste something, not because I’m hungry. I was reading something, and it was actually probably on NF somewhere, that bored eating happens when you’re actually thirsty, so I’m making it my side quest to drink more high quality (or regular quality) H2O!

 

 

3) Eat better.

A: Paleo
B: Home cooked every day, mostly vegetables, no bread

C: Home cooked every day, smaller portions no bread

D: Home cooked every day with salad side
 

LIFE QUEST

Become an advanced DT/Sports/Therapeutic Bodyworker who is healthy and plays the role of a model therapist. I want my clients to take what I say seriously and feel confident that I know what I’m talking about when I recommend certain stretches/habits because I look fit and healthy. Nobody wants to take advice from a fat trainer – right? Same concept.

I need to reach my goal weight because it’s something that I’ve been on-again-off-again working at for 7 years. That’s long enough. Now is the time.

 

MOTIVATION

My dresses are collecting dust in the closet because they're too snug
Looking good GREAT in less clothing or & no clothing

Finally accomplish the mission I set out to do 7 years ago

I want to turn myself on when I look in the mirror

Can't let my best friends get sexy without me

And let's be honest, I wanna look damn sexy for my boyfriend

LADY! I'm so glad to see you here, I almost lost hope! 

 

Those stairs sound killer, I'm so glad you've already made improvements. I think progress has always been The Great Motivator. Keep it up! 
Everyone is drinking more water than me  :neglected: but I'm a dehydrated lazy anyways so I guess I gotta catch up. 72oz won't be a problem for you. How will you track? MFP?

 

I like your motivations. I don't feel like I've really found the thing that kicks my ass into gear… but noticing the extra poundage sure does. But things like bringing old dresses back from the closet crypt is like reaching a milestone in itself. I've put aside the clothes I can no longer fit into but still really love (it's a great visual motivator) and I can't wait to fit back into them.

 

Don't forget to cash in a wisdom point by completing the first mini-quest!

Dude, I know. I got on MFP today and updated some stuff and was like WAIT. I HAVE TO DO NF STUFF OR AMIRA WILL THINK I ABANDONED HER. So, here I am. 

I know, I'm an amazing friend. haha

The stadiums are pretty intense, but I've reached a point with them where I'm not super sore the next day. I face more motivation than pain when I'm at the CC, it's actually really nice. It also helps that I'm the one there to encourage Megan, so if I'm not pushing myself harder or encouraging her to push herself when I'm not pushing myself then I feel like a tubby complacent quitter. It's almost like I have to work harder to be a good "coach" for her. haha 

As far as my motivations go... UGH. I know. I KNOW. Closet crypt will release it's hold on my beloved "M" dresses and I will not SQUEEZE my fat rump into them the next time I put them on. I swear I don't know if my bust is going to rip the dresses or if my rump roast is going to try to make an escape for a grand introduction to the poor unsuspecting people of Santa Barbara. I once fit into the pants that my cousin gave to me, I plan to fit in those again too. One day it'll happen again. 

 

WAHOO WIS PNTS! 

Oh and for H2O... I have a 64floz bottle sitting in front of me reminding me that I have a goal to meet today. I'll need to go grab some chia seeds for some added fiber! :P

I face more motivation than pain when I'm at the CC, it's actually really nice. I forgot about chia seeds! I might just keep some at my desk to throw in my water bottle. Definitely would help with mid-day cravings. 

Or do you have to let them soak up for like a day to get them to expand?

Yeah, you can get a 2lbs bag at costco for like $12, seriously. Go there. They'll last you FOREVER. 

And you only need to let them soak for 15-30 minutes before they get their gel. They are weird in water. I'm warning you now...

They also give it a bit of a nutty flavor, but you have a couple different options for adding chia seeds to your shit... (LOL it's got a lot of fiber, so they actually will be added to your dumps) you can make chia gel which is 4tbsp chia seeds to 2cups of water then cap it and shake it up to avoid clumping (I use mason jars) Let it sit in the fridge for 15 minutes then repeat. After 30 minutes you can add it to pretty much anything and the seeds keep in the fridge for like a week.

If you want it more on the go, just make sure you add them to your water and not add your water to them, they tend to stick to bottle surfaces and sides and shake it pretty regularly so they don't clump together. If I don't have chia gel, I add the seeds directly to my water bottle and then go to the cc and walk the track with it in my hand so they don't have time to settle. 

You can also add them to yogurt or pastas or dressings for salad. You can pretty much add them to anything.

Hey Mander :D Baha just today I decided I had to play through the Zelda games. I started the first one a year or so ago but it wasn't my copy so when I moved ...  I didnt get to bring it with me. ; ; BUT Im going to get an emulator. 

 

Anyways, it sounds like you are off to a good start :) strong goals. Something I like to do (and its perfectly allowed) is... halfway through (or if I notice I am struggling) I re-evaluate my goals and adjust them to increase success rates. That can go the other way too, if its too easy you can increase the difficulty :) Looks like you have a good group of friends helping you out in real life and that is REALLY going to help you! 

 

The BBWW is a great starting workout and I am actually going to be doing it this challenge as well! So good luck to us! The water is another important goal that I feel you hit dead on :) Yes, you are headed in a very good direction. Keep up the good work!! You will be super extra sexy in no time!!

I thought I might mention some habit forming apps while I was at it. It might help you stay focused.

- MyFitnessPal (calorie tracking, weight loss progress tracking etc)

- Lift (by lift.do) https://www.lift.do/   Habit forming app <- I found it kind of slow and I didn't use it that much

- HabitRPG its a website (they might have an app) Another habit forming sort of thing, but you get a character and everytime you do one of your tasks (drink glass of water, work out on tuesday etc) you get coins which can be used to buy gear and potions. AH! The Zelda games are SO MUCH FUN. My favorite, by unpopular opinion, is WindWaker. I just love the animation in the game and I just got the WiiU HD edition... Basically, it's just as beautiful as you could imagine. Then of course there's Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past. AH.I'll admit I haven't played all of them (unfortunately) but I know Skyward Sword you have to use the Wii MotionPlus shit and I don't want to look like a fool playing, I just want to nerd out and play with a normal controller! (wahhwahhwahh.)

I'm playing Twilight Princess and about to start Majora's Mask right after. Basically up to my chin in Zelda games. I adore Link. He's just such a badass kid!

The BBWW workout looks like it'll be a good one. I'm starting today before my CC workout. Should be interesting. I hope I don't die! (Just my unwanted poundage, please!)

I use MFP pretty regularly, I just need to get in the habit of logging everything. I tend to forget or get lazy... or both. 

Lift I found to be too slow too. I downloaded it on my phone and deleted it two days later. It's not for everyone I guess. haha 

HabitRPG sounds fun! I'll give that a look. Thanks! 

As for my friends helping me... Let's hope those two do more good than bad! We tend to start things together and then eat and forget about whatever thing we were working on.

You totally just reminded me I have a workout to do tonight T____T I just got back from the barn like 2 hours ago haha..ha.ha. .___. totally forgot. -Still in riding gear- At least I havent taken my sports bra off. Time to switch to shorts from breeches.

Worst part of post work out: Taking off the sports bra. 

Omg talk about exhausting.

This really rings true. I want to get into social work and then start looking at either some sort of kinesiology degree or nutrition degree to be a type of food therapist/regular therapist/life coach/workout guru type of thing. A very holistic approach.

 

Considering your love of Zelda, I think you would have gotten the reference I made back in my RPG Frostking group.

WOOOOOH. 
Progression on my life quest!

So, I have been kind of sort of training/ talking about working with a therapist I met recently, because she's amazing and I want her to teach me all the things and today she called me and was like (paraphrasing here)
"AMANDA. DO YOU WORK TODAY?"
"No... I'm off"
"Do you want to come in for an appointment today and work on a lady at 4?"
"BOY, DO I!"

So I went to the grocery store and then started heading home when I got a text from her asking for a copy of my massage license and my insurance card... 
THEN... I got pulled over for looking at my phone and for tinted windows. 
Luckily the officer only gave me a "fix it" ticket for my windows and I promised I wouldn't text and drive. 
SO, DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE PEOPLE. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. 

Then I made my way back to work and sneakily made a few copies of my massage license and started heading home again. 
I had been meaning to buy insurance for myself just in case anyway, so this gave me the push I needed to do it. 

Now I'm all set and will be working for Marlo today at 4. 
I get paid $40 a session (which is the best I've heard of in this area when you're working for someone else) and it's only $5 less than what I usually charge on my own plus whatever tip they leave for me.

WOOOH. 

I also got in touch with Marlo's friend who runs the Fess Parker Double Tree Hotel in SB and she just told me her assistant will be calling me tomorrow to schedule an interview. 

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Also, I just got approved for a credit card through USAA and I'm SO HAPPY because their APR rates aren't bad AND I can manage my shit so much better now!

So, 
I just did that massage for Marlo's client and she's super excited to bring me on board. 
AHHHHHH. 
I just got paid $62 for an hour of work. 
I literally made almost 4x the amount I make at Massage Envy. 
I'll be working for her Tues/Thurs and possibly (if I get the job at the Double Tree) working for her BFF in my off time from Massage Envy. Then I can quit Massage Envy and live happily ever after!
While trying to keep up with my fitness and eating plans that is...

LIFE QUEST

Well, I started working with Marlo and have been learning a ton in regards to deep tissue massage as well as sports massage. 
I feel like I've made a completely positive change in the way I see "work" and I think it's helped my everyday mood at home. 
I'll be quitting Massage Envy soon... Actually my last day is Monday and I'll be on 3-4 days a week with Marlo. 
I'm going to say the things I could have done better to really work toward becoming a great massage therapist would be reading up more on anatomy and kinesthetics as well as techniques.
That will be part of next challenge. B+ for me! (though this is on-going)
