[ONGOING]10 Week YAYOG Ladder Challenge

I did week 7 day 3 today. I agree that the LMI's still seem a bit lame.

Coming back to LMU's after a few weeks, it found them a lot easier to do with good form. I can see the effect this program is having on my strength.

I did 12/12/12 on all exercises today.

Week 8 Day 1

Push Ups - 10, 10, 9, 9, 8, 7, 7, 7

Rocking Chair - 7, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8

Burpees - 5, 3, 2, 4, 3, 3, 4 (something went weird w/ app so missed 1 round)

 

My wrists didn't really appreciate all of this, way to many weird movements without already having decent mobility >.<.

Have I ever mentioned how much I despise burpees? If they come up again... I might replace them b/c they are not a full body cardio thing that I will ever do well in the near future. I totally understand the purpose of tabatas, but adding burpees with no real conditioning other than toyotas is not my idea of fun.

Week 8, Day 1

 

Okay, this is the first time that I thought one of these workouts sucked. By the time I was halfway through the rocking chairs, my wrists hurt too much so I switched to propping up on my fists. Also I don't like burpees either. I substituted Toyotas and don't feel a bit bad about it.

 

Push Ups - 10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10

Rocking Chairs - 10/9/9/9/9/8/8/8

Toyotas - 8/8/8/8/8/7/7/7

I am really behind on posting - again but I completed week 7 last night.  Stappers!  I was not prepared.  I'm in the habit of not looking up the next exercises and just go right to the app and do what it tells me to.  I was not mentally prepared for this and it was harder than expected.  I only got 6 rounds in.  Lame.  

 

and now there are burpees on week 8?!  Ugh.  I am not looking forward to tonight's workout... although I really like @Aces3000 idea of replacing them with Toyotas.  I'll give the burpess a try first though.  Week 7 was great - I'll post my details later.  but going back to ladders again really brings home how much I have improved.  So maybe burpees aren't out of the question..

I'm pretty with you guys on the burpees, but I'm still going to do them. :-p

If you look at my post for that day I only managed 3 in each set, and even some of those were pretty bad form!

Ok guys I am here to update. 

 

If you dont want to do the full burpees I suggest you just cut out the push up portion of it. Include the part where you kick your feet back and instead of going down for a push up just jump your feet back up then jump into the air.

 

If you feel that this would be too much feel free to sub in toyotas. I will be finishing week 7 tomorrow... I have fallen a bit behind.

 

Off to do the core workout right now.

Week 8 day 1

 

This was truly the toughest workout to date. 

 

Pushups - averaged 6-7 per set

Rocking chairs - 6-7

burpees (I did these as incline burpees on the 2nd step) 3! per set.

Tried to take all these nice and slow, all went well. Good Mornings are one of those exercises that look like nothing to watch but after a few reps you're not laughing anymore!

I was not looking forward to this day coming back around, given my hatred for Let Me Ins, but I have solved the problem! I was trying to figure out some weird way to attach a bar or something at the same height when I thought of my wife's resistance band set. They have actual handles and I realized that they would work great to loop over the doorknobs. After using this modification the whole workout went great, and no complaints about the Let Me Ins! It also really feels like I was able to concentrate on working the arm and back muscles instead of struggling with my grip on a towel and my form! So I would highly recommend finding some other method beyond the silly towel for these things.

Day 1: (tabatas)

Classic push ups: 53 (hip height)

Rocking chairs: 32 (killed my wrists and I'm pretty sure I suck at these)

Burpees: 35 (ugghhhhh)

Day 2: (ladders)

Back lunges: 45

OLRs: 22

Squats: 79

Good mornings: 60

I wasn't sure how to handle using both legs for the beach scissors, so I did the full 8 sets for each leg. That made for quite a burn! I also subbed Hello Darlings for the Russian Twists for back health reasons.

So I was wrong. Yesterday was tapatas.

Today I finished week 7 with the actual Stappers. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Back lunges - 10x10 = 100 (the last set of these was a real struggle to finish)

LMI - 10x8 = 80

Push-ups - 9x6 = 54 (I did most of these as close grip, hip height push-ups to increase the effort for my arms)

For the beach scissors you do one set on one side, then one on the other. So you did twice as much work. But thats ok!

Week 8, Day 2:

 

I wasn't really in the mood for this today, but still glad I did the workout. I want to continue to show up for this group and myself. So I decided to really focus on form and see if I could keep the rep count in line with the suggested number. It ended up being an excellent workout. 

 

Back Lunges - 36

OLRDLs - 36

Squats - 36

Good Mornings - 36

 

The OLRDLs are finally getting easier for me. I have a noticeable improvement in my balance after all these weeks of doing them.

GRAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! Finally finished out the week. Will start next week sunday. Those reverse lunges where killer... I did them barefoot and I just couldn't step back comfortably.

That's the spirit! :D  And completely agreed, having this group has been a major motivator. I know I would have fallen quite a bit behind without it!

Seems like out of the 5 workouts per week we have now only 2 of them are complete ass-kickers. The rest are more like this setup, where I get some good core work, but I scarcely have to break a sweat. My hamstrings are still sore from w8d2 though, guess I need to work on more good mornings!

So, I didn't do YAYOG today - I opted for a 2 mile run and then drinking a nice glass of wine while making pumpkin squares and homemade spaghetti sauce. :)  I will really have to focus on Friday/Sat/Sun to stay on schedule. Eek!

This was a good workout.  Not strenuous so much but my form on the lunges was SPOT ON.  This is great news for me because I really struggled with these early on.

I was motivated this morning, then I looked out my window and saw snow >.<. So day 3 will be done when I get home and hopefully the snow is gone. I wish I had a place inside where I could do the LMU's, I may give in a buy a TRX since I've wanted one for awhile and it would make some of this easier.
