-------Day Six Report--------


 


Quest 1: Failing to plan, means planning to fail


Strength workout done - and meal plan followed. Today was lunch at my mum's place - so out of my control. We had a sandwich/baguette platter so it was very carby and lacking in protein. So I changed up things when I got home and had an extra 50g of ham (didn't have any other protein ready to go), and for dinner had salmon and almonds, with steamed broccoli and carrots. So I managed to stay within my calorie goal - but was a tiny bit high in carbs, and a tiny bit low on fat and protein. I did the best I could do though, so I am happy :)


 


QUEST 2: Fit and strong for the journey ahead 


Strength work out was good and fun (4 sets of each):


  • DB elevated split squats  (6 x 3kg each leg) --> Upping reps next week
  • BB deadlifts (12 x 7.5kg) --> Upping weight next week
  • DB incline bench press (12 x 3kg) --> Upping weight next week
  • Chin ups (downward motion only) (8)
  • Hammer curls (12 x 5kg) --> Upping weight next week
  • Skullcrushers (12 x 5kg) --> Upping weight next week
  • Crunches (12) --> Doing weighted ones next week
  • Leg raises (8)

As you can see I am either upping the reps or weight for most things next week. Chin ups I still can only do the downward motion, and leg raises - holy shit they are tiring - but I just managed to do 4 sets of 8. Ouch!


 


QUEST 3: Battle ready


Not today. Tomorrow is boxing circuit today!


 


LIFE QUEST: Move towards the light 


Another successful day - I will be a watching a movie while making decorations tonight though - but my goal is only to cut out free-to air TV so I'm still meeting it. Now here is hoping the 3yo actually sleeps tonight so I can get through said movie.

YEAH for upping the weights!!  I'm about to be able to do that on all of my upper body lifts - doesn't it feel AWESOME?! Good for you!! :D

 

And I think the occasional movie is ok and awesome!  Just not like... 6 in a row. XD

I'm allowing myself to re-watch Firefly as a way to decompress after long workdays. 1 or 2 episodes in a sitting. And, no pesky adverts! Also, Firefly! :D

 

Yay for upping your weights! Isn't that the best affirmation of progress?

We watch a lot of TV in the evenings...but it's one of the things Laura and I like to do. We just finished binging The Wire, which isn't nerdy but is some damn fine television. We're rewatching Battlestar Galactica (which is what prompted me to message her on the online dating site, she listed BSG and Firefly as two of her favorite shows). I know a Firefly re-watch is coming up soon, since she's mentioned it about 5 times in the past week. (I'm dense, but I eventually get the hint!) Game of Thrones is on the list for a binge re-watch, too. Speaking of GoT and The Wire...

Yeah I don't have a problem with watching TV eps - just hate free to air TV that includes advertisements. I just was getting into this weird space where I wasn't even watching the shows I like and just watching junk on TV because I was feeling so brain dead. I feel so much more alive now after 6 nights of no commercial TV.

-------Day Seven Report - End of Week One--------


 


Quest 1: Failing to plan, means planning to fail


Workout done and meal plan followed. Today was really hard for me food-wise. I wanted to eat everything! Biscuits, chicken, jam sponge rolls, fruit - everything! Somehow though my willpower was strong and I didn't cave in - and I had a lovely treat - a yummy home cooked roast - chicken, potatoes, pumpkin, carrots and broccolini. Yummo!


 


Overall: 100% [Meal plan and workout plan was followed]


 


QUEST 2: Fit and strong for the journey ahead 


I did my boxing circuit today - so that certainly counts as a cardio workout - I was a hot sweaty mess by the end of it :tongue:

Nutrition


 


Standard Meals


  • Breakfast: Protein shake (250ml skim milk, 115g blueberries, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 tsp chia seeds and 1 tsp coconut oil)
  • Snack 1: Tub of peaches and 22 almonds
  • Lunch: Salad (50g LF cottage cheese, 50g avocado, 110g tuna, 1 hard boiled egg, 1/3 cup brown rice, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red capsicum and baby spinach)
  • Snack 2: Protein shake (1 scoop chocolate protein powder, water)
  • Dinner: 100g poached chicken OR a salmon portion, 2 cups steamed vegetables and 1 tbsp natural peanut butter 

 


Day by Day Breakdown


  • Monday - all standard meals (salmon for dinner)
  • Tuesday - won't have snack 1, and dinner will be at a friends house (damage control)
  • Wednesday - all standard meals (chicken for dinner)
  • Thursday - all standard meals (salmon for dinner)
  • Friday - lunch will be replaced by a banana and a protein bar (chicken for dinner)
  • Saturday - won't have snack 1, and lunch will be at my mum's house (damage control) (salmon for dinner)
  • Sunday - won't have snack 1, and dinner will be roast chicken and vegetables

So really the plan is pretty much the same as it was last week. I'm hoping this week that the body fat % will continue in the downward motion, and hopefully the weight will come down to.


 


Workouts


  • Monday - Stretching and Balance training (Rushfit)
  • Tuesday - Strength (program 1)
  • Wednesday - Les Mills Combat 45
  • Thursday - Strength (program 2)
  • Friday - REST DAY
  • Saturday - Strength (program 3)
  • Sunday - Boxing circuit

All of the strength days will be the same - I'm just going to be upping weights and reps. Boxing circuit will be the same too - although I'm going to alternate high knees/butt kicks/jumping jacks - for some added variety. And yes I'm resorting to workout DVDs - because yes I have two small children and I'm housebound - gotta use what I've got!

Awesome day, amazing week! You're going strong and in it to win it ;).

 

I also much prefer watching my TV from my comp (Hulu and Netflix are my friends). I don't own a TV and commercials are so annoying! I still limit how often I watch tho because there are much better things to spend my time on like cheering everyone on :D.

***start rant***  Argh what is wrong with me! The last three days all I can think about is eating - I hope to god that I'm not about to run out of willpower. I haven't given into temptation yet, but jeebus - why can't I stop thinking about unhealthy food!  ***end rant***


 


Okay so seriously - the plan was followed - I ate what I was supposed to and I got in my workout. Yay! 


 


QUEST 2: Fit and strong for the journey ahead

QUEST 3: Battle ready


Yes! I did my stretching workout and a balance workout - ummm I am so not flexible at all - I need a lot of work in this area! A lot! Balance was pretty hilarious too - lots of falling over and looking like a complete idiot. I did notice that I can balance on my left leg better than my right, which surprised me (since I'm right-handed) - but yes I need to work on my balance too - no surprises there.

Ugh I HATE those days, where it seems I'm starving every two hours... NOT COOL, BODY!! >_<  Don't let it win!  Willpoweeerrrrr!!

 

I used to be super flexible but nowadays... uhhh... yeah, not so much!  I've been trying to incorporate ~10 minutes of specific yoga stretches into my day but it can be tough.  Plus, I sit at a desk 8 hours a day so that helps me none!  It's tough to feel like a big ol' oak tree sometimes. ^^;;;

You won't run out of willpower, and we are here to help! Is it PMS time? That always makes me want to eat stuff that I wouldn't normally eat. If that's it, perhaps pick a not-terrible treat (like 70% dark chocolate) and give yourself 10 minutes to relax, indulge, and enjoy the treat. 

 

Flexibility and balance take a ton of work. For most of my life, I have been really stiff (the fibro doesn't help, but I was stiff even back when I was working out with my personal trainer and we were focusing on stretching). Some people have shorter muscle fibers, which can be part of the issue. I have found that taking 10 minutes to stretch after my strength and cardio workouts (in that order) have been really helpful. I'm almost 39 and for the first time in my life, I can bend at the waist and touch my nose to my knees with my hands flat on the ground but it took years to achieve that. I used to hate stretching but now I love it. 

 

Oh, also, I'm the same as you...a righty but my balance is better on my left leg. I can also kick a soccer ball better with my left foot, and I tend to carry backpacks, purses, etc. with my left hand. Maybe I was supposed to be a leftie!

Love the quicksilver gif!! You are stronger than your cravings and I second aeshnidae's idea of eating a healthy *treat*.

 

I'm with you on the whole flexibility thing, my hamstrings hate my guts *mutters about stupid desk jobs*. Now we can all strive to live up to aeshnidae's example... I want to be that flexible!!

Willpower!!! Haha yep I'm definitely an oak tree - my inner thighs get so ouchy if I try to get anywhere near the splits - and by that I mean I completely suck and can't do it at all.

Not PMS time unfortunately - can't blame it on that! I think I might be one of those people that are not naturally flexible at all - so it is definitely going to take a lot of work. Slowly I guess I will get there.
