Tateman’s 10th: Running my way into the Scouts!

Recommended Posts

Yeah, the tournament should be a lot of fun.  At least I always have fun at them :)  I've seen a few runs at a nearby track from that link.  So maybe I can get to something haha.

Is there a trophy if you win?

Yay at least there's somewhere to run! :peaceful:

Great work.  Any workout at 11pm even an impromptu one is great!  Also, kudos on the new PR (I have a feeling I'll be saying that a lot this challenge).

Keep it up and good luck at the tournament.

Awesome pr! I've been having mad cravings too. Yesterday a rare taco bell craving appeared out of nowhere.  It was hard fought and I won that battle, but a sneaky chicken strip craving got me in the back.

Hmm, I don't think there is a trophy for this one.  Money though ;)

Indeed, 11pm workouts ftw haha.  And thanks about the PR.  I am hoping I make many PRs this challenge ;)

Congrats on your PR! And fartleks are fun, too. :)

Yeah, I actually have fun with them most times.  When I run real fast, it gives me a great feeling.  I want to see how fast I can eventually run a half mile, and mile.  I'll love to build it up so I can just run real fast for that long ;)

Thanks.  Yeah, these cravings get so weird.  I noticed I get this way from time to time.  I just am trying to be better each time in controlling it :)

Woo hoo....mile pr!

Thanks :D

HERE you are!!!! LOL I love your challenge!! I soooo want to start running eventually! :) And I love your spreadsheet!

You will rock this challenge as always! :)

Yup, I have been hiding among the Scouts ;)  One step at a time.  I started with the RunDouble C25k app.  I know many that have used the Zombies, Run!! app too to get started.

Money beats trophy every time :playful: Make sure you buy something pretty with your wins!! ;)

Indeed. :D

So Wednesday went ok, but I let the workout slip until too late again.  I did go walk 3 miles first, then just did a few pushups.  Not exactly what I had in mind, but I guess I am breaking back into the habit.  Tonight will be my fartlek run.

Friday will be travel day to Reno.  I am going to get up early and get a walk in before we drive though.  I need 2 walks and a workout.  There is a little get together meet n greet kind of thing Friday night as well.  Also a low score tournament I might have to get in on.  Basically, you throw one ball.  You try to get the lowest number of pins possible.  If you gutter, it counts as 10.  Then you move to the next lane.  Do this for 10 lanes.  Person with lowest score wins. :)  So after that is over, I plan on hitting up the circus circus fitness center.  Then I can do some sort of workout there, and get in walking too.  Or just walk around the hotel/casino/circus gaming areas too.

Saturday I bowl at 4pm.  So either I need to find a place to go run early in the morning, or wait until after bowling.  Also, treadmill is an option here as well.

Man, tonight was not a good night for running :(

First, I had a bad night at bowling.  I was hungry a bit because I didn't eat dinner.  So then I had to get to the store after bowling to grab a couple of things for the trip.  By the time I got home, it was already late, and I felt beat.  My son has taken to screaming his head off in the morning.  Today it was 4:30am.  And then it was too hot to get back to sleep.

So I normally run at night, no big deal, just all the stuff going on, I felt beat.  So I debated for like 1/2 hour if I was just going to skip running entirely.  Eventually, I decide to hell with it and ran.  It didn't start off too bad.  Of course, it was a mental battle still.  Everything trying to get me to stop.  Then after the second "sprint" my right side near my ribs start to give me some pain.  I tried powering on.  3rd sprint it got pretty bad, and I almost stopped running there, but I wanted to make it to 20 minutes.  So I just ran at a pace until 20 minutes.  I tried to at least pick it back up, but there was no 4th sprint.

So it was really rough, but overall I am glad I got out there and did it anyway.  I would have felt way worse if i skipped it.

I would be sooooo amazing at the low score thing, I am very good at getting just the left most pin haha

I think it's awesome that you stuck to 20 minutes running despite the pain on sprinting :)

Well done on pushing through and finishing the run! That is an achievement on its own :)

Have a great weekend, sounds like you've got some good plans in place for how to manage...

We all have days like this, but what's important is that you didn't stop and give up. :) Awesome job!

I have nights like that... Too tired to run, but I go out anyway and it's never the best one. I still think those nights are productive even if it's more walking than usual. It pads the miles for the week... Or steps, if you will ;)

I ended up staying in the hotel room while the wife was doing homework.  I heard the winner bowled a 32.  A guy I know got 36.  He was 4th and took home $100

Yeah, I was happy that I just pushed on and did it.

Hey Tate, great challenge! Aw, man, I just found your thread and it has already so many posts in it... I hope I can keep track this time

haha Thanks.  I need to get caught all up with everyone too.

Good job on getting out and getting it done!

Thanks!

Yeah, I figured it happens from time to time.  It made me think about what to do if this kind of thing hits on a race day :)  I guess adrenaline would help get you over the hump though haha.

Hey. What matter is that you got over the "I don't wannas" and made it happen. Great job!!

Thank you.  I let myself argue with myself the whole time I was putting on my running shoes and everything haha.

Nice job so far Tate, nail those runs down!

:D  I am trying!

So weekend wrap up so far.

Friday, I got in a short walk before heading off to Reno.  So I didn't specifically go out for a second walk, I still got out there and had plenty of walking.  8,787 steps on fitbit.  Friday night we went and ate at Long John Silvers.  My kid with his pirate hat

I got most of what I ate into myfitnesspal.  Didn't break down the side salad though.  Of course, I think I probably ate too much.  No workout done on the night.

Bowled today.  I took a quick selfie ;)

The lanes were a little tough.  I was doing pretty good, then had a poor last game.  Still had a ton of fun though.  Probably ate too much again today haha.  Apple fritters for breakfast, Godfathers pizza for lunch (I had a mini combo pizza with a bigger salad), then some Long John Silvers for dinner after bowling.  I didn't get as much as last night, btu still it was a lot.  THough, I am actually ok because this is stuff I haven't had in months.

So the night is winding down, and I finally head down to the fitness room at around 10:30pm.  I get there and a couple of younger kids are horsing around in there.  Kids under 14 are suppose to have an adult with them.  They left though after I was there for a few minutes.  The first treadmill I was on seemed ok, but I seemed to have a weird slip to it when I was walking a bit.  I started to try to run some, but it felt so weird with the slip issue it was having.  So I jumped off, and went down to another treadmill.  That one was better, but still not great.  I wasn't sure what speed to really set it at, and I left it on no incline since it was my first time running on it.

About 10 minutes in, it felt like it was way harder then running outside.  Plus I forgot my headphones at home, so no normal running music, just crappy tv to try to listen too.  Also, there felt like it was massively hot in there.  I must have picked the wrong treadmill with no air circulation around it.  I stuck it out for 20 minutes.  So no 3 miles in.  I walked a bit afterwords too.  11.022 steps today.  On the positive side, I still ran today.  Even on a treadmill. :)

Hitting the road early in the morning to get back home.  Then back to schedule for this week at least ;)

I hate running on treadmills! The constant moving under my feet, and knowing that I can't just 'stop' really bugs me... I'd always much rather go outside to run! So well done on sticking it out for 20 minutes! Sounds like you had a great time, and sometimes thats more important than being strict with everything :)

Cool, you ran after all. But as LadyWitch said, I hate treadmills, too. Like machines with weight lifting they feel unnatural and you always have to adjust speed. I tried treadmills some time ago and decided it wasn't for me. Cycling is a much better alternative. ;)
