Oh Christ, so must to catch up on!! Had one of those weekends that went too quick and didn't get a chance to sit down for 5 minutes. Even if I did have the time, I wouldn't have been able to catch up on here as I had long periods of time without electricity, so no internet - Thanks Mr Electrician!

On the plus side, after 2 weeks of my flat looking like a bomb site, I now have a working kitchen. Well, I say 'working', I have cupboards and worktops and a lovely looking hob and oven. It's just a shame the hob and oven aren't actually working yet! So really, it's more of a show kitchen. Just a few more days and I'll hopefully have my home back to normal and I'll be able to cook proper food again! I really miss cooking!  :blue:

Surprisingly, I managed to do all my planned workouts last week. I had to move a few things around but I managed to squeeze them all in. The only thing I haven't managed is my life quest.

Week 2 review

Lift the building (Strength Training) - A

Did all my strength training sessions and I'm up to 37.5kg on my barbell squat. I've started using the barbell instead of dumbbells now on a lot of my lifts and I've started a spreadsheet to keep track of my lifts as well. Hopefully my copy of New Rule of Lifting will arrive soon.

Defuse the bomb (Running) - A

Did all 3 training sessions, including an interval session on Saturday before the gym and a long run (5.5miles) yesterday. Got my 10k in 2 weeks, eek!

Pull myself up from the ledge (Chin Up) - Completed!

Obviously I'll keep doing this and hopefully will improve, I don't know if I'll managed to do 2 in a row before the end of the challenge but I'll keep trying!

Life goal - Ukulele practice - F

Haven't had any time to practice the ukulele this week. Disappointed with this, but hopefully now the main kitchen work is done, I'll have a bit more free time.

Now, to catch up with everyone else!

3 quick Woohoo's!

Woohoo 1. I have a kitchen again! I can go food shopping later and do proper cooking! Thinking of all the yummy baking I'm going to do at the weekend in my posh new oven.

Woohoo 2. My New Rules of Lifting book has arrived!

Woohoo 3. Gym this morning! OK, not much of a woohoo but it makes me happy!  :D

Not really done a day by day catch up this week. Everything has pretty much been on track. Gym Tuesday, run Wednesday. Was all good until today. Was supposed to go to the gym this morning. I got up before my alarm and was heading out the door when my stomach took a bad turn. It's my own damn fault. I had a burger and curly fries for dinner last night. I do this all the time, I eat healthy most of the time and then have a 'treat' and spend the next few days suffering. Going to have to have a think about my diet going forward.

Anyway, enough ranting. I think I'm feeling better enough now to go to the gym this evening so at least I won't miss a workout.

Still didn't feel well enough for the gym last night, or this morning. Going to have to call time on my 2nd strength training session and just do my Saturday one as normal (if I'm feeling better by then!) Bit disappointing but I guess it can't be helped.

Right, starting now is Operation: Eat Clean. I'm not going fully paleo, but I'm going to drop as much processed food as I can and try to make some healthy switches. Going to be doing some experiments using coconut oil (found a 500ml jar for £2 in my local supermarket!) instead of sunflower oil and going to get a food processor this weekend so I can start making my own, healthier snacks.

Hope you feel better!

Thank you!

Good for you on changing to eating clean.  That's something I'm planning to start doing now too. I imagine the first few weeks of cooking as opposed to eating out or just heating something up will be difficult, but from what everyone says, once you get in the habit it's great.  Wishing you luck on it!

Feel better and good luck with the new eating plan :D! I've found that getting most of my food sorted over the weekend has really helped me out. I also went and ordered a food processor so that I can speed up the process and try some new ideas. Thanks for the protein bar recipes!!

Alright guys, I'm back. I had a bit of a blip last week and very nearly jacked the whole thing in, but I'm back and ready to rock and roll.

I took Monday and Tuesday off work to catch up on a few things at home that were causing me some stress. While I had the time off, I brought myself a sexy new food processor (it really is sexy, all chrome and glass, I took it out the box and hugged it cos it was so pretty!).

I spent a few hours yesterday getting food prepared for the rest of this week. I made some paleo scotch eggs, some raw food protein bars and cooked up some chicken and roasted vegetables for lunches (roasted with coconut oil of course).

I've started the first level of New Rules of Lifting for Women yesterday. I was a bit skeptical at first as "workout A" took me no time at all, about 30 mins in total. It didn't feel like I was doing very much, despite pushing myself. I've changed my mind on that today though thanks to DOMS!

Most important thing this week is my 10k run on Sunday. Got to admit I'm very nervous about it. The most I've done in my training runs recently is 5.5 miles so I'm hoping the adrenaline and atmosphere will drag me round the last half a mile. Once this run is done, I'm knocking the running down to twice a week. Strength training 3 times p/w and running 3 times p/w, plus doing pull up training is just a little too much for me.

Awesome on project clean. It really makes all the difference.  I'm debating getting a food dehydrator since then I can make my own beef jerky and turn fruits and veggys into snacks.

Thanks, I'm hoping I can stick to it! I would love a dehydrator. I'm a little obsessed with kitchen gadgets though and I'm running out of room for everything!

When I was given the frame for my new bike I was advised to take it home and let it sleep in the bed with me and to tell it stories to bond with it.  I may or may not have taken this advice. :P

Also, which food process or did  you get and how well is it working? I've been wanting to get one, but don't want to spend a lot of money and have it not work well.  I bought a blender once that started to smoke whenever you tried to crush ice with it.  <_<

2nd gym visit of the week this morning. First time doing Workout B from New Rules. Pushed myself a little more than I did on Workout A - it helped that the gym was empty so had use of everything I needed with no waiting around.

Healthy eating is going well. Had some lovely salmon steaks and vegetables for dinner last night. The scotch eggs and protein bars are keeping hunger away during the day and haven't had any "treats" all week. The weekend will be the real test.

Hoping to do an easy run tomorrow, which will be my last before my 10k on Sunday. Eek!

That makes me feel almost normal for hugging a kitchen appliance! Almost....

I brought a Kenwood - This one to be precise. It was £99 here, the US Kenwood site has the same one listed for $149, but without the small mill attachment. The blender attachment is really good quality, very thick heavy glass. Some blenders with burn the motor out if you run them for more than a minute, which kind of defeats the purpose of a blender if you ask me!

I've only made a smoothie (without ice) and chopped nuts and vegetables in it so far. I'll let you know how it goes when it comes to ice crushing.

Jealous of your new, sexy appliance.............

Sounds like you're doing awesome with the cooking and eating!  And NROL seems like a really good program from what I've seen, so I hope you keep enjoying it!

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm in a pretty good mood today. The sun is shining, had a good nights sleep last night so feeling a lot more awake than I have done in a while.

Managed to get 20 push ups and 20 BW squats done at lunchtime. Interval training later, as long as I don't flop on the couch the minute I get home. Pretty sure I won't, I'm feeling good right now.

Friday & Saturday catch up:

Friday - did my interval session. Not much to report, went OK. Just hoping I've done enough to get round the race tomorrow.

Saturday - Got up nice and early for the gym this morning. Cycled in in the pouring rain so I was freezing by the time I got there, but it woke me up! Really happy with the session this morning. I've been straying a bit from the NROL workout when it comes to doing squats. I'm still aiming to squat 45kg so I do my warm up with the bar and then do 3-5 reps on my heavy lift. Then I drop the weight down and do the 2x15 reps that NROL requires. Did a new PR of 40kg today so I'm a happy bunny!

Eating has been good too. Made some banana nut muffins earlier so I can have something to eat on my way to my run tomorrow. No sugar in them, so nice and healthy. Got a nice shepherds pie cooking in the oven now and it's smelling good!

So, going to relax and watch Doctor Who, then get my stuff ready for tomorrow and get a nice early night. Wish me luck!

10k done. It went better than I expected. Official chip times aren't up yet but by the time on my Garmin, I did it in around 70 mins. I'm happy with that. Will do a full update later on!

Well, that was a pretty good end to a good week. I really wasn't feeling good about the run today, I guess it was mostly nerves. I always get nervous before a race. Plus, I hadn't done a full 10k on my training runs.

I was expecting the course to be quite rough as it was mostly off road through fields. But it turned out not to be as bad as I thought. It was quite uneven and muddy and bottle necked in places, but I was nowhere near as hilly as I thought it would be. There was one big hill just before the 5k mark. It was one of those buggers that you think has ended, but then you go round a corner and it carries on! I really really hate hills but as I was going up this one, I thought to myself, if I stop, I'm letting myself down. So I pushed on through and made it to the top of the hill without walking.

I allowed myself 1 5 min walk break just after the big hill and managed to do the rest running. Kept the pace slow and steady all the way round, except for the last 300m. You've always got to save some energy for a sprint finish!

My official time was 1hr 9mins. Despite saying I'd cut the running down, I've started looking at other 10k runs in the next few months!
