Jittersthe.Clown
“You are never strong enough that you don't need help.†A number of months ago, I came across this:I held it back because I didn't want people to know that I was struggling, online or in real life. I am always willing to help others, it should be the benchmark of humanity. However, I need to be willing to ask for and accept help from others. It's with that spirit that I take this next challenge.Keep the Mojo mojoing:0/30/18Do some sort of workout that keeps my body moving. BBWW, the 7-minute workout, running, jumping, etc... 3X per week. Wait! You noticed that I put the body weight and the running together? How astute. Well done. The reason for this is because: All that heavy isn't going to lift itself:0/30/18I'm going to lift 3X per week. I've not lifted in a long time, and I really want to get back into it. I want to earn that Thor Shirt. What Thor shirt? This Thor shirt: or this one: Which will be my reward for finishing this challenge with at least a B. Now, there should be 3 things, and as a Druid, I'm going to add this: Peace can only come from within: 0/50/30Meditate 5X per week. A focused mind can accomplish more and right now, I'm not accomplishing a damn thing. I will slow down, and notice the quiet and that things simply are. By now, in my head at least, you're all wondering what calling Rush has to do with all of this. Glad you asked. Mega Man would not be able to defeat Dr. Wily by himself. Dr. Light, Roll, and Eddie (Flip Top) all help along the way, but it is Rush, Mega Man's trusty dog, that is always there for him (at least since Mega Man 3, which is my favorite). Rush is that extra boost when Mega Man can't quite jump that high. Rush is the way across when the pit is too wide. Rush is the all encompassing friend that we all need. So, how does this all tie in? My grades for my challenge will all be dependent on whether or not I ask for help. My plan is to seek help from other people with all of my activities in some way. I may (and I really should) take The Most Loathed up on his offer of joining him at his new garage gym (and get tips, this guy knows his stuff). I may take Kat or CeaseFire up on the offer of a running mate. I may ask my wife to join me on my workout days at home. The only one that I can't figure out is the meditation. I am not sure how to have someone help me with a solo act. I'm open to suggestions on that one. My grades will suffer one letter if I don't ask for help at least once a week. 0/6 We begin on the 15th, it's going to be a great challenge. 3 Level 2 Warforged Druid STR: 2, DEX: 1, STA: 3, CON: 3, WIS: 2, CHA: 3 "If these people tell this story to their children as they sleep; then maybe someday they'll see a hero is just a man who knows he is free." JenniferStark
Great Challenge Jitters!! I like the meditation part. When I feel like life is moving too fast (is it Fall already?) meditating helps me slow things down, and remind my self I have plenty of time to accomplish my goals. Maybe the asking for help would not be with the mediation itself, but asking for the time, space and quiet you need to get the most out of it. Ambisagrus
I can relate to not asking for help. JessFit
You can ask people to suggest meditation topics, music, YouTube guided meditations, ect. I have a book called meditations from the mat (yoga and meditation) and maybe I can send you some topics from there if that's how you meditate. Jittersthe.Clown
I think my meditation will continue to be a solo act. Here's a sampling of the Jitters Meditation: It's 4:45 am. It's dark and quiet in his house. He gives his body a nice stretch, reaching for all the positive energy he can grasp in a day. He smiles because he's awake. Heading out into the living room, he is sure to be quiet so as not to wake the kids. Sits in front of the couch and closes his eyes. The small orange lights from the various electronics would be a distraction. He lets his mind wander. For a couple minutes, all is clear in his head. Suddenly:He lets the random thoughts that occur come and he thinks on them. He allow himself to run through a satisfactory outcome, and an outline of how he will accomplish it. Then he moves on to the next one. And so it goes for my allotted time. Sometimes, I cannot come up with a solution, so that thought follows me through the day until I can come up with something for it. Sometimes, my thoughts are not problems, but rather an awareness of what is happening around me. Like this morning. My daughter was gone, and I could sense her absence, so I thought on that. Jittersthe.Clown
Jess, I love you dearly, but I am going to kick your ass for getting that stuck in my head last night. I wasn't sleeping well, so I thought I'd surf the threads and get inspired. Then I read that. And I thought, oh, no problem, I've been able to listen to a lot of repetitive songs with the kids and not have them stuck in my head. Then I couldn't stop hearing it. I got to sleep late, woke up at 4 for my run this morning and it was still there! I was unbelievably close to sending you a message to let you know I was awake and it was stuck in my head and it was all your fault. But, I decided to be a bigger man and let you sleep. You're welcome. I did end up doing 20 minutes of yoga last night. I didn't find much that tickled my fancy online, so I went with the Giam yoga DVD I had. It kind of worked me pretty well. I got my run in this morning, and then did 20-some minutes of meditation after. Topic of meditation was something that's coming up tonight. I'll explain down below. I'm already at 2 of 3 for my Mojo. I was thinking about upping it to 4 times per week, but I want to see how the rest of my week goes first. I'm only on day two. I'm only on day two... Keep the Mojo mojoing:2/32/18 All that heavy isn't going to lift itself:0/30/18 Peace can only come from within: 2/52/30 So, I know why I had a hard time sleeping last night. Despite my wanted to blame Jess for that damnable song, it's because I have a phone interview tonight for the job in Seattle. This will be the first interview I've had in a long time. Most jobs I have had have come about either by way of knowing someone who hires me on or because they have called me to work for them. I used to interview really well, and I presume I still do, but this time it feels different. This is what I was meditating on. Why does this feel different and why is it making me feel anxious. I've come to the conclusion it's because it's a life changer if I get it. I'd be moving my entire family half way across the country because of me. Uprooting my son's progress with school, soccer and his friends. Moving away from the family that we are so close to; both on my side and my wife's. I know there's a real possibility that I will do well and go on to the other 4 rounds of interviews (two of which would have to be in person). If I blow this interview, I will at least know that I didn't want to upset my family's life here, but if I ace it, then I'll know that I really want it. It just feels a little selfish. 1 Level 2 Warforged Druid STR: 2, DEX: 1, STA: 3, CON: 3, WIS: 2, CHA: 3 "If these people tell this story to their children as they sleep; then maybe someday they'll see a hero is just a man who knows he is free." Bekah
its a big decision, obviously. Either way it goes will be fine. Kids are resillient, and trust me when I say that you being happy and fullfilled in life makes a HUGE difference as your kids get older, so think in terms of "if the kids/wife/family were all 100% thrilled and wanted to go through with the move and you got the job, would you want it then?" are you applying for anything else? If I blow this interview, I will at least know that I didn't want to upset my family's life here, but if I ace it, then I'll know that I really want it. It just feels a little selfish. Don't make excuses. You can do this. You wouldn't have applied if you didn't think it would be good for you and your family. There is nothing wrong with a moderate amount of selfishness. You are doing yourself and your family a disservice if you never think about your own needs. Also, you are only focusing on the negative sides of the move and the new job. Yes your son has developed a place for himself where he is but he'll also be able to handle a move and to grow into a new set of friends. You're family will always be your family no matter where you go. All I'm saying is that sometimes we all tend to try to find reasons to soften the blow of "failure", which is perfectly reasonable but as someone that I have followed for a while I know that there is a lot in you and you should go at these things full-on, pedal to the floor. If/when you get the job then you can sit down with your family and think about if you want to accept the position. If you have time today try to see if you can mock interview with someone. It always helps to go in prepared. 2 I'm a time traveler, but I can only go one way and only a second at a time. Link to comment
