its a big decision, obviously. Either way it goes will be fine. Kids are resillient, and trust me when I say that you being happy and fullfilled in life makes a HUGE difference as your kids get older, so think in terms of "if the kids/wife/family were all 100% thrilled and wanted to go through with the move and you got the job, would you want it then?" are you applying for anything else? It's not selfish to want to be happy :)

I am applying to a lot of different places right now.  A lot of them around Seattle/Portland.  Seems like an area we'd all love.

Don't make excuses. You can do this. You wouldn't have applied if you didn't think it would be good for you and your family.

There is nothing wrong with a moderate amount of selfishness. You are doing yourself and your family a disservice if you never think about your own needs. Also, you are only focusing on the negative sides of the move and the new job. Yes your son has developed a place for himself where he is but he'll also be able to handle a move and to grow into a new set of friends. You're family will always be your family no matter where you go.

All I'm saying is that sometimes we all tend to try to find reasons to soften the blow of "failure", which is perfectly reasonable but as someone that I have followed for a while I know that there is a lot in you and you should go at these things full-on, pedal to the floor. If/when you get the job then you can sit down with your family and think about if you want to accept the position.

If you have time today try to see if you can mock interview with someone. It always helps to go in prepared.

Completely agree. No excuses Jitters!

And who knows, even if the transition will in some ways be difficult it might end up a great opportunity for your family too.

You are all right, I know.  I'm just having a hard time accepting the fact that sometimes, I need to do things for myself.  I know my son would flip out if I got this job.  It's with a company we both greatly admire, and it would inspire his wonder even more.  I know this would be a great opportunity.  I just have to let myself know.

You definitely need to do things for you, your kids are little they will be fine, do this for you and it will give your kids a role meodel for being good to themselves when making hard choices too later in life :)

I really just need to make a choice on where I want to go too, I'm so heavily leaning on Portland I have all but rented a Uhaul...but I still say I'm unsure...lol. I am putting it off bc JJ has 2 years left in highschool, but your kids are little, you have no such reason :)

Ooooh I am also a Minnesotan looking to move to Portland or Seattle. I decided I really can't take many more of these winters. I hope the interview goes really well.

When I'm not sure about a job (for whatever reason), I always remind myself that you don't have to take it. Do your best in the interview, learn more about your potential future colleagues, and then decide after you're offered the position. Don't put too much pressure on yourself yet. Focus on the interview and see how it feels.

The interview went amazingly well.  From what I was told, I am one of 5 applicants out of state and one of 800+ they are sifting through to find the right person.  I will hear yes or no in 2-3 weeks.  In the mean time, I get to sit and think of all my contingencies.  If I go, what do I do with everything?  How does the house get packed up?  Do I pull my son from school mid year, or let him ride it out?  Do I rent the house out or do I sell it outright?  Do we drive out there, or fly and sell the vehicles?  I would like to just let it be and not stress over it, but I have a feeling that if I'm not prepared to answer these questions, I'll mess something up.

Any-who...

I didn't do much in the realm of workouts last night.  The boy had soccer pictures and has his school pictures today.

Got meditation in this morning.  It was a clear mind meditation.  I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I know this logically, but it doesn't prevent me from running all the scenarios in my head.  And there wasn't much room up there before...

Glad meditation went well considering you've got so much going on in your head!

I'm glad too.  I'd like things to be simple for a while.  In time, right?

What Hatter said. Also, if you do end up getting this job I think the NF hub will be in the US Pacific NW.

Time to look for jobs.

The NF Pacific Commune.  Has a nice ring to it.

By the way, you and Jenn are still planning to go out to Portland to visit Wendy, right?  There had better be pictures.

Last night was a later night workout.  Some stretching, push ups and body weight squats.  This morning, I tried for some meditation, but I couldn't get my mind focused enough.  I may try again this evening.  Because of that, I went out to the garage and did some lifts with my saw and a bag of bricks.  Improv at it's best, I'd say.  Went for a run afterwards.  Good morning.

Help.

Well done Jitters, on inspiring us by talking about what goes on in your mind. Asking for help can be so difficult in different ways. What helps me (see what I did there?) sometimes is to think about how I react when someone asks me for help.

Also, as you might remember I did a major move recently (a year ago). I did think things through, as I needed, and my husband is still in my other hometown with his kids and it will take a few years for him to join me. What I wanted to say is that maybe all the things you are thinking through and planning are just important for you. Many of the difficulties I anticipated didn't arise and a whole bunch of unexpected ones did.

But it worked out...

I have chosen to believe in myself.

Not coming up to Seattle? [emoji53]

Edit:

Also, I didn't realize that the PNW was a hub for nerds! I only know a few...and two go to my gym... But so many are reclusive,.. So maybe they are all hiding and I don't know how strong our numbers are! :-P

Jitters, a car (if it can make the trip) would be good if Seattle is where you end up... Living IN Seattle where you can catch a bus everywhere is pretty expensive or a little sketchy... and the outlying burbs aren't super accessible by bus...so at least one to get you to a park and ride and/or grocery store might be a good idea... Just sayin'! I have my fingers crossed for you to be happy in every way, whether that's here or elsewhere...

And darnit if your colors and challenge posts are still invisible... I feel like I'm letting you down when I can't read them instantly!

Okay, this weekend was a little off for me. I didn't finish anything I really wanted to, but, I did make progress on things I needed to. My shop had a shutdown day on Friday (hence my silence) and I don't usually get online on the weekends. I got nothing done fitness related since Wednesday. I walked a lot yesterday out at Ren Fest, but that's about it.

I'll get better at this, I swear.

Friday night was interesting and it took me a while to calm down from it.

My wife was with our kids and her mother at a football game that our nieces were in the pregame show. I was watching Archer. It's about 7:45 in the evening and the sun had gone down. I am used to hearing kids playing and yelling in the neighborhood. What I don't often hear is someone calling for help. Over the TV, with my door and windows closed. I jump up, slip on my air walks and head outside. Someone is coming up my stairs telling me someone was being assaulted down the street. I get down to the street and see two young males running. I do the only sensible thing I can do, I chase after them. Unfortunately, I'm not in my running shoes and I can't quite catch up. I am able to follow them for a few blocks until they disappear down an alley. I don't see them. A voice that had been silenced by adrenaline told me they could very well be luring me down the alley so they can prevent me from following any more. I stop and wait a minute. One of them runs out from a driveway and books it down the alley, but I get a bit more of a description off him. Find a neighbor I know coming back from a walk with his dog. I fill him in and we go see to the victim. Here's the timeline from everyone involved:

Two young ladies were door to dooring it selling local newspaper subscriptions. One on either side of the street. The one on the side of the street opposite mine was coming down the stairs of a house when she saw these two start walking towards her. She immediately turned around and went back to the porch she was just on. She heard them whispering until she turned. Then they walked on. They went a couple houses down to where the assault took place. A older neighbor was getting out of his truck when one of the thugs went up to him like he wanted to give him a fist bump. The other went to the other side of the truck to cut off any escape. Why? Because the first one started beating this man. They both were punching him for no real apparent reason. They were taunting him saying "What are you going to do about this!?" He kicked at one of them. They grabbed his phone from his back pocket, but threw it down. I'm thinking they were looking for a wallet. Less of a chance to track, I'm thinking. He started to yell for help. One neighbor came out, and one of the thugs started walking to him and reached down like he was going for a weapon. The neighbor backed off. The goons started running. I see them run past and give chase. I wish I was better prepared for it, but I hope they now know you do not start something like this in our neighborhood. Police come. Ambulance shows up. See my brother (he's paramedic on my city's fire department). Chat with the PD (they are the beat cops that we all know). They say there was a few of these happening and they have 3 squads and one K9 unit looking for these scum bags. Waiting to hear if they got caught.

I wasn't able to give a good description to PD of what they looked like due to bad lighting in the neighborhood. My step father works for the city in public works, so last night at dinner, I had asked him how we can go about getting better lighting on our street. He gave me the contact info on who to talk to and he said he'd put in a word at the office today. I just sent the email off and I hope for a positive response soon.

Shit like this bothers me to no end. This is a man who is in his late 50s and is friendly to everyone. He always says hi to you when he sees you and gets involved with the neighborhood activities all year. He's the kind of guy who will shovel your sidewalk if you haven't done it by the time he's done with his. I truly hope that these low life shit bags face justice.

I'm reduced to swearing, it bothers me that much.

I did get to have fun on Saturday night, however. TheRealKat turned 30 and had a shindig at her residence. It was a lot of fun. I learned how to play tippy cup and as it happens, I'm pretty good at it. The benefits of being a juggler is boundless. :D Also in attendance, CeaseFire and Husband. Good times. Went to Ren Fest yesterday and had a good time. Kids were at sister in law's house overnight Sat to Sun, and they got to go out on their boat yesterday. They had a blast. Bed time took about 10 minutes total. For all of us... It was tired in our house last night.

New week, let's kick some butt everyone!

Wow, Jitters.  That story is crazy.  I'm so sorry that happened in your neighborhood and I hope the victim is OK.  It's completely understandable that this threw you off for the weekend. Ditto to keeping us posted about the situation.

Wow I can see why that would take you a while to calm down.  When I lived in Utah a couple guys took baseball bats to my neighbors SUV. I heard the noise, ran outside and screamed at them and they got in their car and drove off.  If the lighting was better on our street I probably could have gotten their license plate number. The whole thing lasted less than a minute but I felt shook up for a while afterwords.  Good thing you were able to chase them down and at least prevent the assault from escalating.   Make you wish Batman was around to beat the pulp out of them......

Hey Jitters,  I realized the other night that I never sent you a picture of my grandpa in his Shriner clown outfit.  So last night, I looked through every last picture I could find and didn't have a single one of him in costume.  I did however, find many others of him and me.  It was a wonderful walk down memory lane.  I'm going to ask my parents if they have more photos I can look through to find one of him as a clown.  Maybe they'll even remember his clown name.   :)
