Ummmm... yeah. Someone you know who shall go nameless

(<----------)

Can't really *go* to Brazilian steakhouses any more, because that someone can't be trusted to not attempt eating her bodyweight in beef in one sitting. Seriously. I almost yarked in the parking lot the last time I went - and have kind of horrified/strangely impressed friends that don't know any better with just how much food I can consume when I put my mind to it.

And yay for the BF not liking mushrooms! My hubby doesn't either, and while I used to think that sucked, I'm now happy that I get to have an entire package of sauteed mushrooms (or takeout deli container) all to myself. Without having to share one bite.

My dinners when he's out of town look like: some sort of expensive seafood like lobster claws or a crapton of shrimp or a nice piece of thick fish + I used to eat a bunch of asparagus, but now the hubbs likes it + mushrooms. All the mushrooms. Or a steak and mushrooms. Or ceviche. I pretty much always make something ridiculously decadent that would be prohibitively expensive for two - usually incorporating things he hates and I love. :)

1000 burpees --0 Too sore :(

You might check out the mini challenge this week...just 50 flights of stairs. Kind of fun because it's easy(ish) to fit into regular life.

I know your burpee pain! Last challenge I got really frustrated on days I physically couldn't make progress toward my pushup goal. Sometimes the body says no!

In other news, I weighed in at 160.0 lb this morning!

Which puts me at -2.8lb over 8 days.

Though at least some of it is likely fluctuation (wondering if my weight will increase when I eat more fiber).

I hit ~155lb a couple months ago, and gained it all back in the move. Still, progress is exciting.

Indeed, it is! Congrats. :panda:

Hehe yesss the problem with Brazilian (and all buffet's) is that I feel the obligation to eat enough to make it 'worth it'. Which is not optimal for maximum enjoyment of food. Ceviche! Got a recipe?

Hopefully that format is a little easier to read. Still annoying that I can't paste tables directly in.

The last two days went okay for me, I've been skipping my workouts/movement because the PF hurts after walking less than a block. No good. Time to get serious about icing/anti-inflammation pills. And this weekend I'll be buying insoles which hopefully will help.

Last night I baked chocolate chip cookies, which sounds a little insane in the middle of the challenge but I really do it because I enjoy bringing them in to work and sharing. Feeding people is the best. I felt super accomplished for not burning any (unusual for me!). I ate one (tester, duh) last night which sent my carbs over but it was worth it. Best choc chip cookie I've ever made...maybe best I've ever had. Probably because it called for a pound of chocolate and I chopped a bunch of my high-quality stock. May eat one more today, but my sugar cravings come a long way since the time I'd eat a whole sleeve of Thin Mints.

Successes

  • Food, overall. Diet has not been difficult, and I have not given into the urge to buy and eat a whole bag of Cheetos (why does this persist when I don't crave sugar anymore?)
  • Finally did a morning warm-up today, and it felt good. I'm modifying because handstands and pushups are out, and I'm afraid to try splits in the morning given my propensity for injury.
  • My pants feel loose, I'm hoping I can comfortably fit into my size 10 work pants next week, though my size 10s jeans still give me major muffin top.
  • Did I mention the other day I was able to crank out two fist pushups? Just one away from my goal!

Things to work on (extra)

  • Gotta get going on those chin-ups. Pushups and burpees can wait until my arms/chest feel normal again.
  • Still going to bed a bit too late, yesterday I took a 3-hour nap so really wasn't tired until late.
  • Gotta get more 'real' workouts in, I need to focus on getting my PF better

Happy Friday!

I have not made this recipe, but this is a ceviche from one of my absolute favorite Miami chefs - and I've had if not this exact dish, something similar, at one of her restaurants and loved it.

Damn, I miss her restaurants.

Thanks for sharing your successes, you really are doing a great job. If you PF doesn't get better on its own or with what you are doing already, another option is to splint it at night. Do you know what I'm talking about? There are various ways (a "boot", or a special sock that has a strap at the toe end you can attach higher up) to gently force your foot to be flexed overnight. That slowly stretches out the fascia. I haven't tried it, but lots of my runner friends have had to go that route.

(google "strassburg sock" if you want to see what I'm talking about.)

Ha I think that ingredients list is a little long for me...not sure I'm a superchef like you. I think I'd be too afraid of not 'cooking' the seafood enough, and would end up using sushi grade fish...at which point I might as well eat it raw. :D

I do...my podiatrist mentioned it but I'm really trying not to buy any more stuff. I'll definitely consider it if I don't see improvement soon. I think rolling my calves might help...I appreciate the ideas!

I fear I suffered a minor flesh wound when scuffling with the popcorn dragon last night... Please, avenge me!

Avenged! I had some tea and went to bed. And in retrospect I feel good about it (though I still can't kick the Cheeto craving of varying intensity. annoying)

Yes...weird sock contraption really doesn't fit into a minimalist lifestyle :-)

Hehe well I got my new superfeet insoles, so hopefully they'll do the trick...because I bought superfeet! ahem.

Week 1 Friday

Carbs-85g

Fat-93g

Protein-111g

I was to fudge a recipe portion up to get the protein to hit (since I figure Costco size chicken thighs are bigger than most and there was a fair amount of bacon in the portion I ate yesterday), but remembered I ate beef jerky at work yesterday so not an issue.

Watched a couple hours of TV last night, but aside from that no changes. Skipping activity still and hoping my feet feel better with my new insoles. Practiced a couple chinups.

Next Thursday I'll be home visiting my bf and I can't wait! It's extra motivation to stay on track for the next week or so. And even though I have exciting food plans while I'm there (wine!), there will be good options to not go completely off the rails. I may take a day off from metrics so I can just enjoy the pork terrine with GF crackers and a glass or two of wine without worrying about the numbers.

Today I went on a massive errand run that included a farmer's market...where I bought sushi-grade fish. Then proceeded to eat a whole pound of sashimi (I skipped lunch so was super hungry :playful:). Prepare for off-the-chart protein. If I lived near somewhere that sold sushi-grade salmon I would alllways hit my protein metric. Ah, the luxuries of having no children and the whole food budget to myself.

Why you shouldn't dress your baby like a zebra at the zoo...

lion-tries-to-eat-baby.jpg

I just ate a whole roasted fish (Orata, baked with lemons+chives in the cavity and sprinkled with garlic salt). Perhaps my high protein yesterday (133g) and today (200+g) will somehow make up for earlier in the week when I was complaining about meeting protein hahaha.

My weight loss is steady (woohoo!) but my body fat is barely moving...though that may be normal because the BF number is lower. But I'd better start getting some strength training in so I don't lose muscle. Speaking of which, I discovered a day or two ago that I'm closer to a full chin-up than I thought...I've been occasionally practicing jumping up and lowering down, and the other day I pulled straight up from the floor and was pretty close!

Thankfully, my arms are fiiiiiinally recovered from TRX pushups (Monday) so I'll start getting my burpees done.

Yeah the pork terrine and mortadella that I've been daydreaming about for WEEKS is pretty Paleo but generally high in fat, and I know i'll have the terrine with some GF crackers, which are not super clean. I could make them myself...maybe next time.

That'll show you to take pictures of me...

Week 1 Wrap-up

Metrics:

Carbs--6/7

Fat--7/7

Protein--6/7

Sleep, etc:

Books--4/10 read <--Fast progress on this corresponds with very little progress on afghan.

TV--2.5/3 hours

10:30 bedtime--2/7 <--Gotta work on this one

Sweat:

WODs--1/20 <--Slow progress here due to not picking a gym yet, and being stupid sore from the one WOD I did

15+min activity--2/7 <--Thanks to plantar fascitis. If I join a 'regular' gym I can row instead.

Burpees--30/1000

Chinup--nope

Pushups--2/3 fist pushup capability

Life, etc:

Daily set-7/7 <-- not always in mornings, but getting there

Volunteer opportunity--?

  • I volunteered on Friday, but I don't think I can do this regularly because they don't have opportunities outside of business hours

Buy only consumables--5/7

Pick a gym--nopenopenopewafflewafflewaffle

Summary

I wasn't really perfect on anything, but still happy with my progress. Apparently, the metrics work. The fact that I can fit in a cookie if I really want even though it's not perfectly Paleo is helping with the healthy mindset. I don't eat a cookie every day, and if I have a sweet is really enough. Hoping to ramp up my activity as the PF allows. I'm excited to get going on my burpees. Clean eating is giving me more energy in general, and that's pretty amazing.

Results

Weight: 161.4-->158.2 lb

BF: 37.4-->36.9%

I'll stop complaining now, 0.5% BF lost in a week is pretty solid. Seeing results is keeping me on track diet-wise.

I realize this is a lot of posting in a short period of time, but I felt this deserved its own post...I'm having an amazing morning:

  • Woke up (duh)
  • Did my daily morning set
  • The pullup bar was staring me in the face...so I walked over and did 1 full chinup!!! The last couple inches were slow, but now that I KNOW I can do it next time it'll be easier...I won't have to fight the psychological doubt mid-chinup
  • Ate my roast beef/mayo
  • Driving to work, "Any Man of Mine" by Shania Twain came on the radio (thus the above picture). I felt so energized walking in to work
  • Had my homemade cold brew coffee and almond milk. yummy!

Hope your morning is/was just as awesome!
