starpuck Posted September 11, 2014 Author Report Share Posted September 11, 2014 A little bit of backstory for my new guild, and for my own reference later ... So my first assassin guild challenge. I've been with the rangers since joining NF but have lately felt lost with all the strange ciphers and codes thrown around there ... like WOD, MWOD, AMRAP, OHP, OHS, RFT, WUT TO THE WUT? When I first joined NF in March of 2013, I was >.> out to prove something to a teammate of mine. She'd just joined Crossfit and was out to proselytize all the peoples to the greatness of it. I wanted to show her that it's less about "The Name Brand" of your workouts, and more about just DOING them. So I started doing playground workouts. I LOVED THEM! I still do!!! I had a TON of success with my exercise regime that consisted, really ... of pull ups, push ups, planks/core stuff and whatever other silly thing I could do on the bars. I lost 15 pounds in 15 weeks. Shifted my belt buckle TWO FULL NOTCHES to the thinner and had a boost of confidence that was near blinding. Winter at my latitude brings on a wave of seasonal depression for me most commonly known as S.A.D. I struggle through the winter, even though I am active with hockey. Our last winter here in Chicago was really brutal. (We had a streak of days where our HIGH was -16 degrees.) It also lasted into April. (Heck we had a snow shower in May even.) In February, they fired my friend/coworker and the work load went haywire for 5 months. And in the middle of summer, there was a family crisis that pulled my attention and focus that way. All that I'd lost in weight, and gained in progress ... went right out the window. I now have to face the unpleasant task of starting over - and dealing with the frustration and regret I aim at myself for having 'let myself go' in the first place, and be determined enough to face the hurdles of having to relearn things and not give up because "I used to be able to this." It's going to be tough for me, but I can still remember how I felt when I was at my peak level of performance last August 2013. I want that back. Additionally, food is still my biggest challenge as well. I get kind of rage-quitty when I track calories, but I think I need to for this challenge so I can see where my 'usual intakes' are. Plus, I will be on vacation TWICE this challenge, and being able to plug things in to MFP might help me be a bit more sensible in the allowance of 'vacation indulgences'. (IE, not every meal, every day, lol.) I'm really excited to be here in this guild and hopefully get to a really strong and balanced place again. I get the feeling of 'I used to be able to do this', it's how I feel when I go climbing. I was pretty lax about it for a while and I slid back quite a bit, but it doesn't take long for your body to remember how it feels to do all that awesome stuff and you'll start to see progress before you know it! And my work has a crossfit club that meets three times a week. Then some members lift the other 2 days too. The first few levels will be familiar, so you can breeze through them relatively fast. Of course, sometimes you forget about that one monster that pops out and throws you off, but soon enough you'll bypass it like you have in the past with no issue. Pressing Restart isn't failure. I was sketchy about doing another SHIELD theme but it's returning on Sept 22nd, so I know I'll get all re-into it and be like YES YES SHIELD! I love the bar code scan option with MFP. We're going to try it. Maybe I should make that goal worth more stats .... hmmm. Yar Batwoman. My first few months at NF I did what I lovingly called PaleoALMOST. I think there's the potential for two problems there for me. I don't really cook. (Hate it, and current living arrangement makes it a scoche tricky.) So I'd end up eating way too LITTLE. On the other side of that spectrum, is finding meals I really liked and eating way too much! When "I'm On" my food preferences are naturally healthy ones. But regardless of being off or on, portions tend to trip me up. Yum = EAT ALL THE YUM. Even if I am already full. *blush* Someday I may try it again. Wufkar? Kick it? Like the Beastie Boys!? Perhaps I am part dragon, I want to hoard all the calories, and still be satisfied of hunger and taste yumminess. honestly mostly I eat the exact same thing for breakfast and lunch every day, and then mix it up for dinner. which is absolutely calorie tracking by DRAGON HOARDING. other times I plan plan plan and then I stress out that I spend too much time thinking about food and I worry that my eating is becoming disordered (though really I am pretty healthy with my relationship with food) and then I realize that ALL MEALS in the USA are kinda disordered, really, between our obsession with cheap high volume food and our obsession with fitness and thinness. I kind of live in an ideal situation where my partner eats the same way I do (although I'm a little more strict). I also have my own house and kitchen and all those fun things that I take for granted. I've definitely had those bingey, eat all the noms moments. Even now I get that too full feeling some times when I'm into something really tasty. In an ideal state of mind I try to take 20 minutes before I think about getting myself seconds. If I am still hungry after the 20 mins I get more noms. What happens sometimes is that we get into the mode of just shoveling tasty things in our mouth instead of savoring it. Last challenge I fluctuated from being not hungry at all and eating practically nothing all day to being a hungry rage monster. The body is weird. Keeping track of cals suck, but sometimes it gives you a good framework of how you should be eating every day. I'm a time traveler, but I can only go one way and only a second at a time. Buuut, now we're hitting winter time in Chicago, so to the indoors I must go. Booo. There is actually a gym in my little suburb, that is run by a guy who does those American Ninja Warrior type shows - and so he's built his whole gym around that. Every once in a while I get the slightest inkling to check that place out... It's so good to see you getting back in the groove! I totally know what you mean about getting new calendars to track with. I'm all, I have to get a new notebook because I'm a whole new joedog today. Heh. Well the groove is there, sort of like in the start of a race... the engines are idling pretty hot, sort of feeling like they're ready to go, but the pedal hasn't been floored yet. That's where I am at. But we'll see if I can't jump out of the gate with a charge! And yay for getting me on the notebooks! (My friends tell me I have a notebook addiction.)
