K, SO, re bum leg & working out.

pushups (Keep that leg up), pullups, dips, (Don't put that leg in the band, leave it straight)

One legged shenanigans

Curlz, just not in the squat rack

Leg lifts, flutter kicks.

Be. Nice. To. It. Or I won't come back to Chicago. >.>

Dial back the eating. you won't be burning as many calories so unfortunately that means you can't eat as much. This first week will be the hardest because your body is still working off that old pattern.

First week wrap up - started so well!

Fitness Regime

  1. Bodyweight/Balance Train:  3X / WEEK   -  3/3
  2. Move & Sweat!!: 3X / WEEK  - 4/3  (2 hockey - 1 cut short due to injury, 4 walks)
  3. Track food intake via Fibit/MFP  - 7/7

Life Goals

  • Research photography classes and sign up for one before next challenge.  -- Signed up for local camera store membership.  Will give discounts on classes.
  • Reorganize vacation pictures and move to Smugmug album. (8000+ photos!)
  • Make appt for that one 'you-know-what' thing and DO IT.

Obviously, going forward, everything is going to change.   I had such big plans for this challenge.   So now it has to be about learning how to adapt.    First thing I will count as a win, is that I am not bailing out on my vacation.   It's going to be different from what I planned, but that doesn't mean it can't still be an amazing time with friends.    I'll take it easy, rest the knee, keep the brace on except when in the car, and come back with some great pictures, and even better memories.

Food is going to have to be a bigger focus on this challenge now, as I'll essentially have lost all my ability to burn off extra calories in exercise.   So, time to focus on really nailing the nutrition and portions and keeping track.   Hell, if I manage to track 42/42 days on this challenge, I'll call it such a monumental win, that the missing points from the exercise, I'll award myself as extra credit or something.

I'll be pretty scarce this next week unless I find some time to sneak on at night.   But, in order to not OCD stress myself to death, I am telling myself to not worry about following everyone and getting caught up on posts.   When I get back, I'll slowly catch up with everyone and just hop in on whatever things are going on at that point.

Oh.  And of course, update my own stuff.    :P

Ouch!  Right now, you'll just have to hope for the best.  If it's an MCL tear, most of those heal really well on their own.  You just might be in a hinged brace for awhile.  If you end up getting less than ideal news later on, I'm sure Karinajean and I can help you navigate your way through the whole process.

As far as fitness goes, there's no reason you can't continue working on pull ups, inverted rows, push ups, dumbbell exercises, or core stuff.

I hope you still manage to have a great vacation!

Sorry about your knee, that sucks! But still, way to kick butt in week 1, and it's great that you're adjusting your goals instead of giving up completely. :)

Hope you're enjoying vacation!

Quick peek in. Thanks for all the well wishes guys and gals, they always mean a lot to know I have nerds at my back.

Vacation is amazing, but I am unsure how much rest my knee is actually getting... outside of the drive day on Monday, I've nailed 10,000 steps or more. >.>

Two cave tours, each consisting of almost 300 steps down. (At least they were down) Plus walking to various view points and such. I have worn a very supportive, but not full on straight leg, knee brace the entire time. And all my steps were taken one foot at a time, with my buddies spotting me in front and behind me, and leading with the left foot. What that means... is I pretty much spent the last four days doing single leg everything on just my left leg. Which in some bizarre silver lining, is the weak leg from having had so many surgeries on the left foot. Lol!

The other super amazing thing is that I managed to track all my food, even on vacation! And I had zero candy bars, zero chips, zero beef jerky, zero road trip food really. That's not to say I deprived myself, I ate smart but went for things I can't always have. And only one place had a to die for dessert, so I only had one dessert. (Homemade peach cobbler with ice cream) I am also still soda and artificial sweetener free!!! I had two pieces of fruit every day, eggs and bacon for breakfast, and my sandwich for our packed lunches.

Basically I feel really good about my food relationship on this trip!!! I am also super glad I still went, even though I was feeling sketchy and emotional about the knee on Saturday and Sunday.

Going back to work on Monday will be brutal because the woman I have to cover for when she is out, will be out... but only 2.5 weeks until Florida then!!

I will start to slowly catch up on everyone's threads next week. Hope you all are doing and feeling great. :)

Glad to hear your vacation went so well despite the knee. It's great you have some supportive friends to keep you from tottering onto your rear end, having people like that around is the surest way to make the best of a less-than-ideal situation.

Also, yay for all that positiveness on the food front! It can be hard when you're on a trip like that to keep to the plan, especially if you're feeling bummed about, for example, an injured knee. So congrats on that!

Good luck on your upcoming work week. Do you have a particularly physical job where the knee will be an issue, or one where you can kinda rest it a bit and still get lots done?

Dare mighty things

I'm glad you still managed to have a great vacation!  But, that being said, I really hope you have some sort of orthopedic appointment set up for your knee.  Even if it ends up just being an MCL sprain, there might be some level of physical therapy needed to rehab it.  In the meantime, I hope you can rest and ice it a lot.

WEEK 2 WRAP UP

Extra challenges incurred: Vacation, in addition to a knee that's being an assbutt.  (Thanks Raxie, I am using that from now on in regard to this injury!)

Fitness Regime

  1. Bodyweight/Balance Train:  3X / WEEK   -  0/3 Double whammy here, knee injury plus road trip made for no strength this week.
  2. Move &/or Sweat!!: 3X / WEEK  - 4/3  While it was not sweating per se, I did manage four days of 10k steps+
  3. Track food intake via Fibit/MFP  - 7/7 <-- This here is amazeballs, what kind of Starpuck does that on vacation?

Life Goals

  • Research photography classes and sign up for one before next challenge.
  • Reorganize vacation pictures and move to Smugmug album. (8000+ photos!)   - New pictures to sort through!  Oh my!  Working on it.
  • Make appt for that one 'you-know-what' thing and DO IT. - Well I didn't make THIS appt but I did make my follow up knee one, does that count? >.>

Extra Credit / Gold Star Worthy Things to Note

  1. I still went on my vacation despite the knee sprain.
  2. I still went on both cave tours, each of which included nearly 300 stairs (mostly down) and uneven terrain.
  3. I still hiked the short nature trails and scenic trails, including one that went into the terrain of the Badlands.
  4. I managed, perhaps not wisely but you gotta do what you gotta do, 10,000 steps on all days that were not driving days.
  5. I tracked every single day of my trip.
  6. I stayed within my calorie budget, every single day of my trip.
  7. I did not have a single candy bar, potato chip, beef jerky, shake or other typical 'road trip' food.
  8. I had fruit EVERY day on my trip.
  9. I let my friends help me while we were hiking; taking their hands as I maneuvered the terrain, letting them carry stuff, etc.  *This is big for me.
  10. I kept a positive attitude throughout the trip, despite being handed a lemon and still had an amazing time with my friends.

Work is exceptionally busy right now, but I plan on writing up a bit more on this excursion and tossing some pictures around as well. :)   I am even *gasp* taking the bold step of ...  Bah!  I cannot say.  It is a secret!   But I wanted to get this filled in before Tuesday got here!

I am going sans brace today.    The knee has more range of movement than it has in a week.   There is still some stiffness kind of pain when bending, and there is still a direction of force that causes real pain, but...   I think/hope that perhaps limited, careful movement of the knee is a good plan at this point.     Especially because the brace, when worn at work, causes my calf to swell up a full inch larger than the other leg!    Puffy legs be damned, amirite?

That write up with pics still coming.

Thanks for all the hugs and well wishes nerds.   You guys bring me all the feels.
