Though I will tell you if you do shack up with someone who also has a lot of books the biggest step isn't property buying or moving in or public commitments of love- but commingling the books. Sounds like the blackbelt stuff was a lot of fun! Was it terribly different from what you're doing now? Or did it just feel like basics redone?Aye, I need to find a sweetie who I can read with!The blackbelt stuff was surprisingly similar to what I'm already learning - but all up multiple gears - so twenty five throws in very quick succession - and they're all from earlier grades, but with a lot more stamina and speed - and rumour has it that you get to do the sequence at least 4 times in the grading - oh and usually throwing two of the man mountains - OUCH! The combination throws and counter throws, again they're all throws from other grades, but put together differently. But put together all of those techniques form only three of 30 components of the grading!!!! No wonder Luke who is grading before christmas is improving hugely as he works on all of this. Definitely something to aim towards longterm. After last night's training I'm feeling inspired rather than daunted. Counters are lots of fun, you'll love those. Though books aren't clutter, they're electricity free entertainment with a dual role as insulation when you have enough of them.I did buy a book on de-cluttering...... and I was good and didn't buy the other two books that had different decluttering strategies........Backing away slowly. *sigh* such a pity. My boss is fairly sure he can wrangle a 6 month contract extension, which should then extend when we get more grant funding........ It'll be easier once some of that is in place. Lou_be_Lou Posted October 13, 2014 Author Report Share Posted October 13, 2014 Many thanks for the support.Its ages until we hear about funding, so I'm just not worrying - closer to the funding finish I'll do more worrying - for now I'm just enjoying making some progress with the work - we're finding out interesting things, which has to be good. Meantime it is nearly holiday o'clock for me - off for almost a week in stockholm visiting my parents (no I'm not swedish - they're economic migrants who shifted there about 16 years ago) - and they're just about to shift back to nz for retirement - so I'm enjoying one last visit to their now sold apartment - which just happens to coincide with the stockholm jazz festival. YAY!!!!!! I'm sooooooo looking forward to seeing/hearing Wayne Shorter on saturday night. Heaven! Meantime, in the weekend I ran my parkrun - more than a minute faster than last time, so I'm definitely less ropey than last time - and I got to kickboxing training last night, and had a good training session - slightly sore feet and legs from ceilidhing at my friends' wedding, and might have fallen over a couple of times, but trained well. Oh and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned with a friend who had a rental property disaster (tenant claimed to have cleaned, the rat poo we found suggests otherwise....... - it is no longer a health hazard). So I'm officially much much healthier if I managed all that and a good day today. YAY. I think the magic ingredient was my chicken soup for the week 4 soup challenge. Have a great vacation!oh yes, some of the deposit is being claimed back - I'm still feeling traumatised by the rat poop, fortunately I missed the mouse poop which was found the previous day.......Vacation all good. I know I'm a little late to the conversation, buy my now wife and I were introduced with the phrase, "You'll like her, she reads." Brilliant start! YAY for friends who do very very useful introductions. I'm loving my short holiday - food has been decadent but mostly healthy and all gf. Significant wine consumption - very very delicious. Lots of walking, tuesday not so much (just a short one of around 3k)m yesterday we must have covered around 10km and today I had a lovely morning run - it was an 8:30 run which feels very decadent - i love heading out running when the majority of folk are heading to work, makes me feel like I'm skiving off school. YAY. It was about 7.5 km, slighty slow pace, autumn leaves everywhere, clear crisp morning, some sun, and it was just a joy. The run included allotment gardens, lakeside, forest, baroque theatre, castle grounds, and a lot more foresty lakeside. Not bad for a run in a city!!!! I love stockholm. I'm going to miss holidays here. Another clear slightly crisp morning, lots of autumn leaves, only a little mud, lots of lake, a different palace and three groups of swans. I'm trying to be diplomatic and not rave too much to my parents about how amazing stockholm is - they know and that is why they're a bit miserable about moving back to nz - only a bit miserable, but they are going to miss this incredible location. Yesterday's afternoon walk (again, all on foot from their apartment) included burial grounds from 1800BC!!!!!!! now am i going to manage right around the lake? its 14 k, so long and one end of it is new to me, so getting lost is a possibility.......(ok, so long as the lake is still on one side of me I probably won't get too lost)..... we are contemplating this as a family walk (the biggest advantage of this is that we'll probably have a coffee break, possibly a wine break)...... or, I have three more morning run possibilities...... It is frustrating sometime, on both sides. But then I have martial arts, which is incomprehensible and annoying to her as much as the music is to me. In the end it is a good balance, there are important things we share and other important things where we complement each other. Elana's pantry looks fabululous - and its a new site for me - so I'll certainly spend sometime there - a very good tip. I suspect the man vs books issue wouldn't matter if I fancied him a bit more - differences can be very very good - and I've never hankered after the kind of joined at the hip relationship that some couples have - like the idea of going off and doing different things, then enjoying sharing stories about it all afterwards. Anyway - I've made some exercise progress!Lake circumnavigation was a walk - and my parents insist that I say that they have circumnavigated it several times previously (but they wouldn't admit to a number) - we had fun - lots of chat, many many photos taken (I refuse to confirm techi-ness over the number of stops for photos) - it was great to finally get right around the lake. And it was about 12.4k, so a decent length of walk, and gets me credit in the family birthday exercise challenge (my niece had been winning with a 10k run before presents - not sure how the comparative scale works, but the three of us figured that three people doing 12.4 k at a slower pace might edge out the 10k - so we'll hold the title until the niece's birthday in november.......). Definitely working on developing a birthday exercise challenge throughout more of the family........ Have had funny reactions from friends hearing me describe the 12.4 k walk as a birthday treat. It completely was!!!!!! Especially as our "reward" and rehydration was a bottle of champagne between us quite soon after getting home. I'm now back in scotland, back at work, back on much less wine (much easier to just have 1 glass in the evening when it is less classy and much less tasty), and a friend got me back to morning gym this morning! He was cunning - wanted help with his grading preparation for kickboxing - but said he would turn up after my workout - so I had to go and do it. Mostly fine - much faster treadmill 5k than I expected (27:12), managed some bodyweight exercises, pleased that I managed 3 sets of 8 inverted rows and 3 sets of a few assisted dips, but fell over doing squats (oh dear - but at least my weight wasn't forwards......) and kind of bailed from the rest of the circuit........ My rationale was that an easier circuit increased my chances of making it back to the gym on friday. It was fun being back. I definitely have some work to do on bodyweight exercises again....... And the friend who got me there? Well, he slept in, and I gave up waiting for him after stretching and stretching and stretching and doing some cross trainer time filling as I was getting cold. I grew up with the Army, and we moved every few years -- including some overseas stations. Not only did we have a space allowance for household goods, we also had a *weight* allowance. Going over either of those limits cost a lot of $$ and my father has sufficiently strong Scottish roots that we never carried much around with us. (shrug) So glad you got around the lake. Imagining the swans in my head. Hope your parents have a smooth move. 1 Link to comment
