Since I reached at least 50% of my long term challenge goals, I decided this was good enough to level up from adventurer to warrior. Life bites me in the ass from time to time, so goals take longer to achieve...and by bites me in the ass, I mean I'm in grad school...

 

The goal is strength. Sexy sexy strength. My thighs are getting beastly, my back is getting beastly, my arms are getting beastly, my abs are...showing more. :P

 

I do barbell training (the Starting Strength programming, though sometimes I add in some dumbbell training if I feel like a particular muscle needs to be improved) 2x/week and I do Bodyweight Progressions 1x/week. I alternate barbell/bw mostly because gas is expensive and the rec is far away...

I'm sort of cycling my bulk/cutting with the challenges on nerdfitness. This was accidental, but since I wasn't going to the gym these past two weeks because of school/work I wasn't consuming as many calories. Today, with the start of the new challenge, I've started bulking anew! 

 

So. Much. Food!

 

Pretty stoked about getting back to the gym tonight! :D

Mostly I'll post my challenge updates on my Battle Log (which is also full of useless info about my life).

So I barbell lifted yesterday for the first time in 2 weeks.

Was able to do 1set of 125lb squats, then dropped to 115 for the last 2sets of 5and failed my very last rep. I tried as hard as i could to lift but eventually had to admit defeat and shamefully lower the bar onto the rack...this is why squat racks are important.

Managed 85lb bench press!

I say this with the utmost certainty: there is NO shame envolved in racking a barbell, especially on your last rep of your last set! I've had workouts that are only 5kg heavier than the last, and failed on my FIRST rep of my FIRST set. It's the over all, week by week, month by month, hell, even the year by eyar picture that's important! Keep it up and you'll be a beast in no time!

Woo! I finished ALL my squat sets this week! 3x5 115lb! :)
I failed my overhead press sets, though. Last rep of the last set, again. What is my deal?! lol

Is it just me, or are OHPs awkward as hell?

OHP aren't so awkward they are just so very shitty for most of us. It's always the worst lift.

I haven't checked in awhile, have you thrown any form check videos up?

I should throw a form check vid up. I haven't because either I don't remember or I haven't figured out how to creatively prop my phone up at the rec so I can record myself.

Tomorrow I'm adding 5 lbs, I think. Sometimes I'll add 10 lbs if I feel like that last workout was a bit too easy, but I think I'll do it gradually this time around.
Also, tomorrow is bench press day. Going to stay at 85 lb until it becomes a little easier. I'm taking creatine so I should see the results of that (if I respond to it) in the next week or two. 

I'm working toward doing an unassisted pull-up! I can do 3x5 with 55lbs assistance atm. Hopeful that I'll be able to get there.

I tried doing a handstand push up last night (out of sheer curiosity and foolishness). I didn't manage it...but my triceps were screaming afterward, as if they were laughing hysterically at all of my hopes and dreams. *sigh*

Look at you go, Busy!  Been with you in the Cutlasses since last challenge, but haven't kept up, and you're kicking such major butt over here!

 

I'm trying to get to an unassisted pull-up myself as well (though I'm sure you'll beat me there) so best of luck with that!  See you aboard~  :pirate:

I'd say post a form check video. Also, I tend to tire out near the end of my sets too. It's an lift that requires more attention to form than you'd think and is usually the slowest lift to progress.
