I really want to sit on the couch, watch some TV, and maybe drink a beer.

This challenge will be about me resisting that desire.

This battle will consist of 4 rounds:

 

Round 1 - Physical Fitness

Homer is seen here performing one armed push-ups with a baby on his back.  I have been progressing towards one armed push-ups since the beginning of the summer.  My goal will be 3 sets of 20 uneven push-ups.  An acceptable alternative would be actual OAPs.

 

Round 2 - Physical Appearance

When Homer really put his mind to it, he was able to get in shape.  I'd like to lose a couple of inches of my waist in the next few months.  My goal this time around will be to hit 5 days a week of 16/8 Intermittent Fasting.

 

Round 3 - Father Figure

Homer may not be the ideal father figure, but he manages to find time to do things his kids like.  My goal will be to focus on my kids more.  Yes, I realize this is an extremely nebulous goal.  Refinement forthcoming.

 

Round 4 - Husband

I realize that my initial statement was that I want to resist the temptation to sit on the couch and watch TV, but no beer and no TV could make a guy go crazy!  Actually my wife loves quality time and "couch dates" are one of our favorite activities.  We are excited that the Fall TV season is starting up again soon and have a couple of shows we like to watch together.  My goal will be at least 5 couch dates over the next 6 weeks where I let her pick the shows.

 

And who knows, if I hit all my other goals, I could wind up in a situation like this:

I need a better couch if we start couch dates... I hate ours.  But that does sound like fun!  What shows are you planning on watching?

 

Well, Mikroftt, this summer we have immensely enjoyed Sherlock.

 

During the fall/winter, we both like Big Bang Theory, New Girl, Parks & Recreation, and Brooklyn 99.

 

She's trying to get me into Downton Abbey and I'm trying to get her into Arrow, The Flash, and/or Agents of Shield.

I have been hearing a lot of good things about Sherlock but have never seen it.  We will also be watching Big Bang Theory and Agents of SHIELD.  I am lucky in that I don't have to convince my wife to watch SHIELD, she wants to watch it!

Day One recap

 

Did 3 sets of 10 uneven push-ups.  Not as pretty as Al does them.  Struggled on the last couple of reps on the 3rd set.

 

Fasted 16/8.

 

Unofficial date night with the Mrs to celebrate a friend's birthday.

Al is not human. He's got some kind of gravity-defying super alien DNA. I think that's also why he looks so happy all the time. I'd smile like that too if I could tell gravity where to stick it...

But enough about Al, let's talk about you! Awesomeness is about to ensue in here, I can see that coming. It takes a special kind of guy to make Homer out into a positive role model!

He makes them look way too easy!  Nicely done on day 1!

I think Phayze has figured out Al's secret!  It kind of makes sense.  I always forget to factor in the potential of aliens living among us.

 

Day 4 update

 

-The 16/8 fasting has been going well.  I'll give myself a 3/3, even though I had a beer after 8 PM when I went to see Steve's favorite band, NeedToBreathe, on Tuesday with the Mrs.  2nd date night of the week!

 

-No workout Wednesday morning due to the late night Tuesday.

 

-Up to midnight again last night, but this time for work.  Yay for getting stuff done, but boo for having to stay up late to do it.

 

-Hoping to get to bed at a reasonable time tonight so I don't miss Friday's workout.

 

-Will try to catch up on you guys' threads today or tomorrow!

Sounds like an awesome date night!  I took your advice and had a date night with the Mrs.  What did we do you ask, watched the first episode of Sherlock on Netflix!  Needless to say we are both hooked.  Too bad they are 1:30 episodes and there are only like 4 per season.  There needs to be more!

Also, I got my first Dad point of the challenge.  My daughter wanted to go for a walk after dinner, so we all went.  We walked the first lap around my block, then my 3 year old son took over and started sprinting and stopping.  He would call out the commands and we would try to sprint and freeze.  A little impromptu interval training!  We ended up doing 4 laps, which is probably about a mile, and I carried him on my shoulders for the whole last lap - sometimes running, sometimes walking.

 

I still haven't defined my Father Figure goal, but I guess it's something along the lines of "do something the kids want to do instead of just existing in the same room while they play".  So, as I said, 1 point tonight!

Woot! Coexistence is a solid baseline, but we all definitely remember the active parental moments. I can't say I recall a lot of just sitting around with my parents, but I totally remember going for hikes, etc.

Thanks, gang.  I definitely got multiple opportunities this weekend.  My wife had a work conference Friday, Saturday, and Sunday AM.  Lots of Dad-Kid time.  One of the great things about challenges is I have a constant reminder that I should be focusing on my littles.

Not-so-chubby Hubby - 1 couch date to watch the season premier of New Girl.  Those people are crazy.

Niiiice! I think you'll nail that 20 rep goal, no problem. Congrats on the dad points, too. It can be way too easy to get all wrapped up in all that boring grown-up stuff that dads have to do and forget how to actually be a dad.

The push-up experimentation continues.

 

Today, I did some suspended push-ups and some with push-up grips, both with arms tight against my sides and more flared.

 

Trying to see which affects my arms and chest the most.

 

Will get back to uneven push-ups on Friday.  Still want to do OAPs.
