So Sunday I did my 30 minutes of yoga, but found that my ankle was sore from the day before for reasons I cannot explain (I really have no idea why it hurt!). So I did the entire yoga session as seated and ground positions which was interesting - so it was a little more low key than my average yoga session. But I was able to do some downward facing dog positions at the end with little discomfort, so that was good.

MFP still going OK. Missed a day on Saturday but still within my goal of 6 out of 7 days.

I did end up getting on the scale and to my surprise I was down 2 lbs from the last time i remember checking which is surprising with all the recent birthday celebrating... But I'm not going to get too excited as my weight can fluctuate that much in a day but I am pretty stoked about the lack of weight gain. :D

Week 6 day 1 of YAYOG completed today and it was OK, but I felt so weak! My first round of push ups sucked. And the seated dips were less than last week, although I am still using straight legs, so that is good.

I think I'm going to search around for a beginner weight lifting class.. To which my husband told me "that's available at, like, every gym ever.." Smart ass, though he is probably right... 😊

So I am still chugging along with YAYOG and MFP. No major updates there. Finished days 2 and 3 on Tuesday and today, respectively.

Prior to my work out today I walked Zoe a mile and then after my workout the hubby comes home and says "so you want to start jogging again today??" So we went out and I jogged a mile after not jogging for a while and it went better than I thought it would. So maybe I will sign up for that 5k after all.

Eating has been better lately. Lesser so on the sweets and more preparation of nutritious snacks to have on hand for snack attacks. I have also turned to screaming at myself in my head kinda like this:

"QUIT EATING SO MUCH CRAP FOR ***** SAKE!"

I understand this is less than the nice, motivational me, but sometimes it gets the point across. :D

Hey hey, which area in Wisconsin are you from!  I'm south east, Kenosha area.  Hoping you're a Green Bay diehard?! Because they were ass-kickin' mean last night. :D

 

I think a lot of the guys I have talked to like the book "Yoga for men"?  Hit up ItsDaniel or cn3wton.  They probably have some good starter tips for guys wanting to add in some stretching/flex training. And I also love doyogawithme.com (totally chromecast compatible!)

Anyway, I'm up in Cedarburg, and yes a Packer fan. :) Been a crazy season so far!  :nightmare:   And thanks for the yoga recommendations, I like the sound of the chromecast-able videos.

My rule for eating is that "special events" are automatic cheat days. I don't mean like stuff-your-face and be a pig cheat, but enjoying a reasonable amount of whatever treat is offered without guilt. There's always the next day to go super strict, and MFP even has an easy weekly calorie view, so you can see how a small cheat really doesn't count for much if it's spread out over a lot of healthy days.

 

Oh great job on the YAYOGs! I've noticed a bit of drop-off in the last few weeks so good work keeping it up!

You're probably sick of hearing it, but I love cedar creek winery! We try to go up each year for strawberry fest and sometimes harvest fest. :) also love the silver creek brewery. Their blonde root beer is the shit!

I like your philosophy for special events. Seems reasonable and I think it is similar to my own thoughts on it, though I do tend to feel a little guilty afterwards.

And thanks for the YAYOG support! I'm a little surprised I made it through week 6 but it seems to keep me interested and a good workout each day. Did you start any yoga stuff yet??

it's all about getting food that is tastey and literally ready to go instantly and also healthy.

Achieving that however is not so easy, especially at this time of year

You are preaching to the choir. I want to eat everything pumpkin in sight!! I am experimenting with snack foods and such that will keep me satisfied - like a few pieces of prosciutto with good cheese or some new snack bars... Avocado is a good one too. Super satisfying.

So last week was mostly good.  I missed a few MFP trackings due to being super busy over the weekend, and also missed 1 yoga session.  Over the weekend I did two different volunteer type activities (one Med Drop event and my dad's annual Wild Game Feed) which involved many hours of standing and sorting drugs in the cold and then a second day of running around, setting up tables/chair, many dishes, serving pie, etc etc. So the whole time I was pretty active and I can tell you I didn't have the time to overeat, so that was good.  I still call the weekend a win, but by the time I got home from each day, I was pretty wiped out and didn't get to another yoga session.  (earlier in the week I exchanged one yoga session for a jog as per my amended challenge goals. :)

 

Started this week off this morning with an early jog with my hubby and then day 1 of week 7 of YAYOG.  

 

Whew.

Thank you! I decided to get more pumped for yoga I needed some cute gear so I bought some yoga socks. :D Zoe didn't like them at first. They got many chompings-at and a few barks, but she came around.

Today was week 7 day 2 - leg day. Finished the YAYOG workout this morning and walked 2 miles so far. Still headed to work for the evening. Getting back on with MFP today after a busy weekend. Off to get ready for work! One more week for challenge 2! Already thinking about challenge 3....

how you finding week 7?

 

It's going alright! Finished day 3 today - pull intervals. I still kinda suck at LMUs, but I am better than before! And better form for sure.  Tomorrow and friday will be interesting as we haven't seen Tabatas or Stappers yet... Eek!

Week 7 Day 3 - Pull Intervals

So, during let me ins I was starting to get a weird discomfort (wasn't exactly pain) in my rib/lower breast bone area... Not even sure what this means... so I had to cut the first round of them short, and then after a short self-chiropractic session, I was able to resume mostly normally.  The second round of let me ins, I was able to hold each one at the top for 3 seconds until the last round was half muscle failure, half weird rib discomfort. Maybe some residual something from push day?

 

Walked 2 miles so far with the hubby and pooch.  Now off to work. 

 

Did read something the other day - apparently there is this lady (who I have never heard of and can't remember her name), but supposedly she is a wicked multi-tasker.  Now, I don't remember mostly of the store because it was mostly silly, but one thing that I did remember was that she apparently does squats while brushing her teeth.  This was seemingly the only worthwhile part from this article and I thought it was brilliant!  So from now on I think I will try to do this. :D

what a peculiar idea, I think I would end up with tooth paste foam all down me

 

hah! It works better than I thought it would.  I have an electric toothbrush with a 2 minute timer, so 2 minutes of easy going squats (don't want to get sweaty for work after all) every morning is pretty good!

Squatting while brushing teeth is pretty funny. I guess whatever it takes to find time for your exercise is good.  

 

Congrats on all of your progress with YAYOG.  It sounds like you have been doing great, and are now almost done with week 7.  I am starting Week 7 either tonight or tomorrow morning, and I am feeling a bit daunted by the stories I am reading about it.  

 

I am also starting to think about the next challenge.  One thought I have is to stop doing so many PVP and other challenges.  I signed up for 3 PVP's and started doing the Rangers weekly mini-challenges, as well as my own goals and I started to get lost.  I ended up dropping one PVP early in the cycle, and for my 20-in-10 PVP I am really only recording my weekly weight because I don't have time to keep up with everything.

Finished Week 7 of YAYOG!  Stappers are really hard! I got in almost 9 rounds total so I ended up with:

 

Back Lunges: 90

Let me ins: 71

Classic push-ups: 48 (waist height)

 

Tracking MFP is still not great, but I am trying each day, for most meals, so that is at least something. 

 

pretty tired tonight, so I might have to get in my last yoga session tomorrow.  One day left for challenge 2!

So challenge two is officially over! Summary post....

Goal 1: YAYOG workouts (4 or 5 per week, strength training focused)

Still going strong! Starting week 8 tomorrow and enjoying the program. 25/25 workouts complete, earning + 4 STR, + 1 STA

Goal 2: At least 2 yoga workouts per week, at least 30 minutes each.

Complete! I did have a few exceptions - I completed another Barre class in place of one yoga session and toward the end (last two weeks) I allowed for jogging instead as I think I am signing up for a 5k on Thanksgiving. 11/12 sessions complete, earning +3 DEX.

Goal 3: Tracking calories through MFP.

Here's where the wheels fell off the wagon a bit at the end, but I held strong for the first 4 weeks. I think I have discovered that tracking can be useful, but I just don't like it! I am one of those people who tries to use up calories instead of just monitor what I eat, so I will probably do less of this in the future. That being said, I complete over 4 full weeks of tracking, technically earning +4 CON, but I am only awarding myself +3 CON, as I really slacked in the last 2 weeks.

Life quest - surprisingly complete! I didn't think I would have the time to finish my second chapter of material, but we had a few slower days at work and I was able to crank the second one out! Plus a presentation for work completed as extra - +3 WIS earned!

Mini quests via adventures:

Mini 1: +1 WIS

Mini 2: +1 STR

Mini 3: not complete

Mini 4: +1 STR

So I apparently earned a boat load of STR points this challenge, but I don't feel extra strong yet. But sticking with it was excellent! I am already thinking ahead to next challenge. I have a few things worked out but details to follow! Thanks everyone for the support-- I am loving NF and this community is amazing!

Great challenge.  Overall you did great.  Tracking food can be such a pain and brings with it some internal beasts.  I think it's a great tool and I plan to use it for my next challenge but not as an everyday thing.  Mostly as a tool to evaluate new potential meals to see how they fit in with what I already do.  it is enlightening but beyond that I don't think it's a great long term plan anyway.  

 

I'll be watching for your next challenge so I can follow!

Thanks so much!! Maybe I do better with mental food tracking and then if I'm feeling like I've forgotten sometime I am more likely to skip snack or something to save calories.
