The Swampling #9 - Holding pattern

Swampling

Recommended Posts

Since my life is going to remain pretty busy with both work and pony-sitting until mid-October, at least, I simply don't have the energy for an elaborate new challenge. The best I can do right now is to not fall off the wagon entirely in regards to stress eating and neglecting exercise.

So this is going to be a pretty unexciting holding pattern, trying to keep me from sliding back into bad habits.

Goal #1: Beat that Sugar Monster
Number one on this list is still my fight against the Sugar Monster. It turns out that even if I reduce the days when I eat the sweet stuff, I can still go totally overboard (there was that 250 g Ritter Bar that didn't last even an hour, poor thing).

Goals:
* Remain candy free at least 21 out of 42 days.
* Don't eat more than one 100 g bar of chocolate (or an equivalent if the Sugar Monster is of the baked goods variety) in one day.

Goal #2: Hit that target
Keep the overall amount of calories in check. Tracking my food intake alone doesn't seem to do the trick. So I'll set again a limit on my weekly average. Last time I did have that target, an average of 1600 kcal max seemed to work quite well.

Goal #3: Do yoga
Don't forget to keep moving. While I'm still figuring out how to proceed with my KB classes, I can't really set a realistic goal there. But I did sign up for the 30-day yoga challenge on doyouyoga - so far I have made it to day 4. I'd like to make a bit better progress than the past two weeks...

So I'll aim for an average 3 videos per week, or a total of 18 over the course of the next six weeks. Which should at least bring me to day 22 at the end of this challenge. :D

Goal #4: Practice French
And then I'll continue to brush up my mad French skillz via duolingo. I'd like to progress at least one lesson per week.

Stat points and grades will follow... Just wanted to get this up so I'll have a new place to crash here for this round. :)

Also still need to update my sig. I know.

... and for the Brigade...

JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM???

NEW CHALLEEEEENGE! :D It's totally understandable that sometimes life gets busy (same here!). It's a good time to really make all the habits from previous challenges stick. You can find out new goals for next challenge, and it's probably good to modify previous ones for now :) How are things with Rosie, overall?

Have a big cup of willpower every morning for the next six weeks! Let's do this!!

Thank you, Ash!

That jacket with the extra longs sleeves will come in handy pretty in the coming weeks, I think... :nevreness:

And tea by the gallon might also be a must-have for me. :D

Sorry, I had to steal some of your hugs to give them right back to you...

You are so right! I have noticed that under pressure I tend to lose my good habits rather quickly, while I'm reverting to the old, less than ideal patterns.

Rosie is doing well, although I didn't have as much time for her last week as I would have liked. :( At least we had a nice walk together, and since it was Sunday, and a lot of folks were around, she had a lot to look at. :D

If "willpower" is also known as "black tea with milk", then I had more than my share of that today. :encouragement:

I did stay under my kcal target, and there was not a single Sugar Monster in sight, despite being quite busy at work (had to save our client from their own legal dept...).

No yoga today, yet, and depending on my workload at the office, I'll have to postpone that until Fri-Sat-Sun. We'll see.

Excellent! :D

And you've still got time on the yoga so no worries! ;)

Yes Swampling!! Kick that sugar monster in the family jewels and put his ass down for good! Think of it this way, it only gives you enjoyment for like 5 min and then all the enjoyment is gone.!

Subbed! :D

Well, depending on the amount of chocolate eaten it can last a tad longer than 5 minutes. But not much...

Today's measly attempt at Sugar Monstering me consisted of the leftover gummy bears from last week's client meeting - so I REALLYREALLY wasn't tempted at all.  ;)

Taking a challenge to just maintain and not add anything is perfectly fine.

Hello and thank you for stopping by! :)

It is my hope that I'll be able to maintain the current status quo, I have found some of my more unhealthy habits sneaking up on me during the past couple of weeks. This has to stop, because I do not want to go back "there". :nightmare:

Breathe! You're having a lot on your plate right now. You have six weeks also the rest of your life to make these habits stick, you can do it!

Nipping bad habits in the bud is good, especially when you just need to cement in the good habits.  Keep up with your goals.

As Teros said, sometimes all we can do - is all we can do. Heck, the fact that you're maintaining, that's far and ahead of doing nothing. And it's so much easier to do nothing when things get super busy! I hear you on that one.

Keep doing what you can! Small steps are still steps :) ...I mean... :livid:

Current Challenge: Taking Time

Hello, everyone! *waves*

Thank you for bearing with me!

So, this week my schedule got derailed both by work and by the FC, but somehow I made it, regardless. Even if French and yoga got a late start... *whew*

Summary for week #1:

Hooray for slaying that Sugar Monster! I kept the darn beast at bay 5 out of 7 days, although there was more free chocolate at the office. Chocolate total for this week: 45 g, which is even a lot less than I'd normally allow myself. :triumphant:

Overall kcal consumption is still on target, below 1600 on average. :encouragement:

I did three yoga videos, one yesterday and two today. The FC was a big help, showing me how I can play the vids on the tablet, so I won't have to do the yoga in my tiny den, tying myself in knots while almost breaking my neck trying to see the video... I have noticed that I really didn't want to do the yoga under those restricted circumstances. Now that I can do it wherever there's more space, it's a lot more fun, and I'm not looking for excuses anymore why I can't do it. :P

I also refreshed two lessons on duolingo and finished a new one, so that goal is also more than met for week 1. :)

Now I need to figure out how to actually make it to KB class, now that I have committed to (and am paying for) a whole year at that gym - and not have the boss come up with any last-minute work right before I have to leave.
