sarakingdom
Thursday, September 18 - Day 4 of Restore Baseline Week Today I:Slept 7 hours. (Okay, not great, but could be worse.)Walked a whole lotta miles. Ate back the calories. It was a stupidly high amount.Meditated.Had some productivity wins.Bit off a lot of faces. Not very exciting, from a fitness perspective. But a pretty good day, and the week's whole recovery goal is going well. That was so incredibly necessary. Would be nice to get in a bit of stretching tomorrow. Now to bed early, to get some extra sleep in. 2 I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. sarakingdom
Okay, time to get Week 2 up here! Little bit of lag, for rest and brain reasons. Week 2 Three weight-training days. Any combination of stuff I like (knowing that this probably means a sort of minimalist workout). Just get it in there. I had a couple of rest issues over the weekend, but I think I almost have some better habits in there from last week, so I'll keep an eye on 'em this week. It makes a big difference, and I do really need that sleep these days. Still eating at/slightly above maintenance. My weight has settled about three pounds lower than it was before my vacation, and my body temp seems to be averaging a half a degree higher. Not sure when I'll go back into deficit. I'd like to do it soon, but I'm expecting this to be a slow reset, and think I'm still seeing some reset benefits. I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. NikkiB
Rest, even rest I need, is not something I've ever been good at. So recognizing I genuinely need it and getting it to happen is sort of a big deal.THIS. I had, like, two or three challenges straight where one of my metrics was how much sleep I was getting and what time I went to bed. It's made all the difference in my health, energy level, and resilience/injury avoidance. Go get that sleep, yo. Link to comment

Kishi
That temperature data is actually pretty important when it comes to figuring out if you're metabolizing properly. If it goes too low, it's a sign that you're not burning right at all. So, credit where it's due! Work like a farmer, train like an athlete, fight like a soldier. 2 Tim. 2:3-6 BATTLE! Link to comment

sarakingdom
Week 2 was eaten up in a lot of working on RL issues and mental health days. I got a few workouts in there, but unlike Week 1's purposeful indolence, it was not a leveling up. So let us put that behind us and move on. Week 3Strength workouts. Three. Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Friday, Saturday. (Cardio today and Thursday, for definite, probably HIIT on Wednesday.) However, I will also not consider it a bad thing if it turns into a flexibility week, because everything is tight and annoying the crap out of me, and I wouldn't mind being a little more limber, going into strength workouts. Monday, September 29Started today with my aikido warmup. Really needed that, everything is tight. Might try to do it twice today. Everything is really tight. Some hiking later after I run errands. Weight is trending very slightly down, small fractions of a pound per week; I think my maintenance level might be a hair above where I am now, maybe 100 or 200 calories. Not sure I can face eating any more to determine this, though, because it's already a pain in the ass to try to eat crap, but I'll bump it up 100 calories in my logging app. So this seems to make my actual TDEE about 800-900 calories more than I believed it was. I'll hang out there for a few weeks, see if it holds steady, then drop to a 10-15% deficit for a month or so. I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. sarakingdom
Okay, caught up on the threads. I've missed y'all. Never let me disappear again. So I had a week of family things followed by a week of being sick, and somehow managed an important life level-up in there, but have been missing in action on the NF front. I'm starting to get back in the swing of basic good self-care here, which is a good thing. I dunno if it's being sick and dealing intensively with family or what, but I'm really grouchy about shit and nothing is fun, and I've been there most of this challenge. So this week is just going to be "make shit fun again" week. This is technically going to blow my challenge, I think, but, meh, I'll be on track to do better sooner if I make shit fun again. I'ma do Cheechoe's kick challenge, cuz it looks awesome. Maybe some horse stance and straight punches. My weight training challenge, if I'm honest, is nothing I cannot do and have not done. It's simply that it's not getting pushed into routine, in part because mentally forming routines is very tricky for me, and in part because it's not giving me the same head-clearing benefits as taking the MP3 player outside in the fresh air with some green stuff. I think the fix might be to add it on to what I've sorta got down. Nothing says I can't do bodyweight squats on the hiking trails and pushups off of logs. It actually might be a big improvement, because I've been pretty good about the ankle rehab, but getting kinda bored with the hikes. I do prefer a strength element in my workouts. Don't know why it didn't occur to me before now to mix them. (Actually, squats and pushups and plank are the things I do tend to get done out of my strength workout. It's the rest of it that I need to make happen. But if I can move them into the "happening reliably" column, then I can move other things into the "happening some days" column, and it's a net win.) Also, I think I'm gonna make an effort to move my home office to the floor when it's not standing. Did that in my last place, and it was awesome for my flexibility and stuff. I spent a lot more time working for long periods of time in gentle stretches, and moved more while I worked. Chairs are not my friend. Might foam-roll today. I've been sick. Shit needs to be rolled out. Then I should sleep all the sleep, now that my lungs aren't trying to escape my chest. I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever.
