Welcome to the Level 1 accountability group led by Teros.

As much fun as this looks:

Flying solo during the Zombie Apocalypse is a really bad idea. You need people supporting you when the chips are down.

I, along with the other Adventurer Ambassadors are making accountability groups for future level 1 Adventurers.

How accountability groups work is really simple.  First you make sure you follow this thread, as well as the threads of people that join the group.  Check up on each other to create a support system.  To know how to follow people, click here:

It's a little tutorial I made that's just a couple of pictures. Super easy.

Post on here a link to your thread. I'll edit this post and put it here; that way everyone else that joins to group can easily follow you.

Each week may have a couple of questions to help you make the most out of being here on NerdFitness.  This place is the mantra: You get out what you put in. The more you are on here and supporting and encouraging others- the more you get in return which means the better chance of success in your goals.  Don't feel overwhelmed to catch up with people all the time though- just stopping by people's threads once a week makes a big difference.  I know that if I didn't have any encouragement when I first got here, I might not have stayed.  Luckily, a few people believed in me and now I have this hanging up on my wall:

20140524_125236_zpsh9bup4ho.jpg

This is a collage of all the encouraging things people have said to me over the past year.  Whenever I look at this, I feel better. I know I'll win this war in weight loss and becoming a better person.  All of you can too- you just have to stick with it.

Any questions? Feel free to ask!

This week's mini is all about being prepared.  Take a few minutes this week and really look close at your goals. Are they S.M.A.R.T.?

Specific - "I want to lose weight"  Well...how much?

Measurable - "I'm getting to the gym more" More by?

Attainable - "I'm going to lose 30 pounds" Normal weight loss is 1-2 pounds. Sucks, but the healthy way is that roughly.

Realistic - "By the end of the challenge, I want to bench press an extra 80 pounds"  Seriously?  What are the odds you'll get
injured before that happens?

Trackable - "I'm going to eat better"  What is better? Compared to when? By how much? Do you qualify rice instead of potatoes as better? Sweet potatoes better? Spinach as better?  How can you compare things if you don't have a baseline?

So post your goals here and make sure they meet S.M.A.R.T. criteria.  You don't want to leave the apocalypse up to chance...

Week 2: Finding your zen moment.

This week is all about trying to find the calm center of your journey. If running in a blind panic from zombies; you're only going to attract more. Full-on slaughter usually isn't the best way to go. With that in mind, this week's mini is to attempt meditation. It doesn't have to be long- maybe 5 minutes a day of just calm breathing and just letting go.

A friend of mine tried to explain how I should approach it. He said that you are a mountain, and the thoughts that are in your head are like clouds. You can acknowledged that they are there and around you, however it doesn't mean they will move you or change your focus. I found it to be helpful.

With that in mind; breath in...

week3

-Protein Power-

This week's mini is all about recuperating from the workout the tour guide put us through.  A good rule of thumb is to have 1 gram of protein for whatever your lean ideal bodyweight is. So for me, my end goal is to weigh about 220 pounds, so I should be having roughly 220 grams of protein per day.

Whatever your protein is currently, up it.  If you aren't hitting your pound per gram total, then try to hit that 3 times this week.  If you're already doing that, then try and bump it up by a bit more for 3 days (20+).  If you basically survive off meat and peanut butter and more would destroy your kidneys if you had more protein then you can always switch this to a 'more water' based goal.

If anyone wants to start and maybe talk about themselves. Since you're all new to NF, what brought you here?  Was it random chance? A friend? Boredom surfing online?  And what kinds of nerdy things are there about you? If you're going to try an survive in a zombie apocalypse, you mine as well know about you has your back.

A little about me first I guess:

My name's Mike, but as long as I can remember I had the gamertag of 'Teros'.  I've dealt with depression since before I was 14 (almost 30 now).  I was a really extroverted person that kids loved until 1st grade when I dealt with a lot of bullying because of my weight. Also, a teacher would punish me as an example to the rest of the class- regardless if I did whatever she was talking about. I dealt with more bullies until I finally got to high school; but by then I had gained a ton of weight gradually.  My confidence was shot, and I hated myself.  Over the years I just absorbed myself into videogames and junk food (Teros alias in games). I eventually went up to 360 pounds until I found this place about 2 years ago and I've been slowly getting rid of the self-doubt and hatred that I've felt for decades.

The gamertag Teros eventually began to mean something more to me- it was my 'ideal self'; who I wished I could be.  That's why I used the name on here.  So far, since being here on NF, I've lost a total of 60+ pounds with a lot of ups and downs.  I have a home gym consisting of sledgehammers, a 250 pound tractor tire, and a bunch of homemae kettelbells, sandbags, and sandjugs as freeweights.

Nerdy stuff: Played NES, SNES, Sega, N64, GameCube, DS, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox360, and PC games my entire life. The game I played the most was Diablo II.  I'm a huge The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones fan, however I never read the comic/books; but I keep meaning to.

If there's anything I can help with on here; never hesitate to ask.

Hello guys!

I originally wanted to join T2SC accountabilibuddies; too bad IRL caugt her ^^;

I noticed some of YAYOG fellas here too, so can I join this group?

Here's my 1.5th challenge :)

http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/54273-d3li9hts-15th-challenge-walking-that-lonely-but-awesome-path/

*introduction*

I'm a 27 yo mother & graduate student, been studying abroad in Japan for 5 years. I don't have any target for weight loss (just need to make sure I won't gain too much) but generally I want to live more healthy and do exercise regularly. I stumbled on NF when searching on how to do a "right exercise" (methods, goals, and such); lurked on the forum for two days, and jumped right on to my first half-challenge :D The encouragements are really strong here! If you're interested to take a peek on my first challenge, the link is on my signature ^^

Ok, looking forward to meet other group members in their thread! Cheers for you all! :D

*edit*

Adding the Gamer part!

I don't do many games, and the ones I do, most people tend to not knowing/doing them. Haha.

I played Harvest Moons :: SNES, GB1, GBA, the original PS1 "Back to Nature" (only several times at my friend's place), "Friends of Mineral Town" (forgot the original console was), and finally the Wii version "Animal Parade". All of them I played using PC, ha ha. Other than Harvest Moon, I also plays Nancy Drew PC games; I just love RPG & detective! I got hooked with Harvest Moon on high school and became a fan ever since.

On iPhone, I played Hay Day for almost two years, then Puzzle & Dragons (hardcore player!) for around 9 months before deciding to quit for good.

Nowadays I don't do much gaming anymore as life catching up with uni stuffs & family stuffs - plus I got hooked to NF and get busy learning all things related to fitness! ^^

Hi All!

Yandapanda - aka Yanda in quite a few places.

I have been a gamer my whole life, and am regularly called (and pride myself in being called) a GEEK.

My preferences for games are PC games (Diablo I, II and III, Warcraft for a few years, Steam loves me dearly), old-school text based games (shout out to Threshold - any other Threshers here?), and losing myself in blogs, although I don't blog myself... my thread on here is the most blog-like thing I've ever done. I have never been a console gamer, but I do own one or two of them. My thumbs never appreciated the abuse.

I have always been generally healthy but not very fit. Over the last ten years I've gained about 20 pounds, and I wasn't overly happy with the extra 15 I carried around back then either. The day before my birthday this year, my doctor informed me that I was pre-diabetic. I have diabetes links in my family, and am choosing to FIX the problem instead of live a life attached to pills. Research into low carb diets led me to Marks Daily Apple, which led me to Paleo, which led me to NF! A whole group of like-minded people?!?! *mind officially blown*

My personal challenged started a few weeks before the Official Challenge started, but the headstart isn't the hard part. The maintenance is the hard part, right?

I am loving the energy being shared by everyone here being so positive and uplifting!

Are my goals SMART?

Here are the goals as posted in my challenge:

Lose 15 pounds and kick butt on the blood sugar!

1) Eat better! Paleo rocks! (con +1, wis +2)
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes per day, 5 days per week (HIIT, Yoga, Walking, Running) (con +1, sta +1, dex +1)
3) Take an extra walk around the block at work three days per week (str +2, sta +1)

Specific: It did not appear to be specific but I meant my first goal to be communicated as "Eat Paleo". I believe that to be specific.
Measurable: All Primal/Paleo diets espouse the 80/20 rule. If you can keep your eye on what goes in your mouth and it is not a processed food 80% of the time, your body will thank you.
Attainable: This is the hard one. My job is an hour drive from my house, and I regularly work 9-11 hour days. So, I am away from home and unable to exercise (the plant is much too dirty to want to do any touching of the floor with your hands) while at work. I am doing my best to take the required breaks from my computer downtime at night to go exercise though. So I do think it is achievable.
Reasonable: I am seeking to increase my activity with this challenge. The weight loss comes automatically, although I have already seen the first plateau in that I think I am gaining muscle despite losing fat (and muscle weighs more than fat). Losing 15 pounds in 6 weeks is definitely achieveable.
Trackable: I am tracking my food via Sparkpeople. I have Runkeeper on my phone for my walks at work. I am using the Bodyweight app for the YAGOG, and it saves your workouts. As for my weight, I weigh myself about twice per week (sometimes more if I disagree with the outcome), and I am keeping track of that on Sparkpeople and the new Health app on my iPhone. I also track my blood sugar twice per day (when I remember to do it the second time), so that I have the record to show my doctor in a few months.

My biggest hurdle is going to be my vacation. We are going away for a week next Saturday, but we are renting a condo, so many of our meals will still be healthy and made at home. I am looking forward to it!

All of them I played using PC, ha ha.

Yes, absolutely.

Very interesting selection of games you have there.  I've gone back and used a modded (shh, don't tell anyone) xbox to play a lot of older-gen games. There's a lot of hidden gems out there.

The maintenance is the hard part, right?

I am loving the energy being shared by everyone here being so positive and uplifting!

Diablo!  I was ashamed of the fact Cain dies via butterfly attack. Such an iconic figure in the series delegated to that was terrible. I think the game mechanics of d3 are fine; but d1 and d2 have a special place in my heart.  I'll never forget how frigging scared I got when I first opened the Butcher's little room and he yelled, "FRESH MEAT!" and came running with a cleaver.

My entire family uses injections and pills. It's horrible. Years ago, it looked like I would get early cirrhosis because of the junk food I ate (never drank alcohol), but I'm proud that I'm at a healthy range now for all of my numbers. It's just a matter of sticking with it.

Maintenance is the hard part. A lot of people start off hung-ho, but then motivation declines because there isn't an insane amount of progress. We're human- we can only adapt and change slowly.

Yes, the energy is infectious.  No one talks down to each other or thinks someone is wrong or right. This is all about people trying to be the best version of themselves.  We're all at different starting and endpoints.

Do some form of exercise EVERY day. (7 MWC app at the very least)

I think they're "SMART," but if anyone notices something I'm missing, please let me know.

Just curious- what do you count as exercise? Some people consider yard work; others need to have a time limit for it.  Besides being curious about that, it looks good.

By the way- the mini for week TWO is up.

Hi Teros and all,

I'm new to NF and have just started my challenge yesterday. I think training for the Zombie apocalypse is a definite must these days, so I'm hoping there's some room in this group for me.

Here's my first challenge in a bit more detail:

Main Quest: Activate super powers

Goal 1: BODY
3x bodyweight and kettlebell workouts per week, followed by stretching

Goal 2: HEART
1x swimming per week

Goal 3: MIND
3x meditation per week (15-25 mins each)

Life quest: 100 push ups

Full link here:

While the main quest is a bit vague, I think my 3 goals are nice and SMART. I wish I could have included some running as well, as I used to train with the Zombies Run app, which is ace. I wish there was a Zombie related workout tracker or something for home/gym workouts as well.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's updates.

The closest thing to that would probably sledgehammer workouts; which is what I do once in a while. Very fun. It really improves grip strength, forearms, and once you have a heavier weight; it starts working the upper arms, shoulders, and core to stabilize. I think a weapon-wielding workout is pretty close :P

Ha, sledgehammer workout sounds awesome. Must research my options for hammer/weaping wielding around here. Thank you!
