CPTRogers Late Start Quest

CPTRogers

Recommended Posts

I know I'm late to this particular challenge...but better late than never!

My Main Quest: To run 20 miles in one week

1.  Every day, to at least get out and move (walk, run, or hike) for 30 min.

2.  To run 5 miles in one day.

3.  Try the Body Weight Workout at least once a week.

My Motivation:  I want to be able to run 5k's and 'Fun' runs again without having to walk at any point.

I walked 1.6 miles yesterday.

Today I ran 4 miles.

That seems like an awesome start, but I'm worried I may have burned myself out before I even began.  We'll see if maybe I'm just underestimating my own capabilities...or if I went out the gate too hard.

Walked the dogs for 1.36 miles tonight.

Aaaaand...I went sky diving.  I doubt that counts for 'fitness', unless the adrenaline I felt during the jump counts somewhere for metabolism boost?  Heh!

That's pretty cool. It should count for something.

Do you have a training schedule for getting your miles in?

Not yet, Sloth.

So far, my training program has been "Every evening, I make sure I get out and take the dogs for at least a mile walk."  It's getting me into the habit of moving again.

I'm trying to develop a training plan...any suggestions, Sloth?

I really believe that building the habit is the most important thing, so if this works for you keep it up. Are you going to run with the dogs? They'll be disappointed after dinner if you don't.

I'm not a runner anymore. When I was, after a lay off I'd simply run as far as I could, start walking back until I could run again and then try to run all the way back without stopping.

Lots of people around here use Couch to 5K. I think Zombies Run also has a plan like that. But if you can already run 4 miles you are probably past that. You could ask in the scouts guild, they'd be able to point you towArd a solid plan.

Did hill sprints this morning for a total distance of 2.14 miles.

I jogged down the hill at a very, VERY light jog...cause the hills were brutal.

Last night, I did an additional half mile lap workout.

Total distance was 1.96 miles.

Every half mile, I did 25 push-ups and sit-ups, except for the finish lap.

So 75 push-ups and sit-ups.

Next time, I think I'll add squats in too.

Today's workout...

Ruck March this morning...3 miles in 45 min.  I haven't done a weighted walk in a loooong time.

This evening, half-mile walk, 2.2 mile run, half-mile cool down.

Then I did 1 min. intervals of push-ups, sit-ups, and squats.

I actually did sit-ups that switched from one type to another.  Crunches, side-to-side swings, and then full sit-ups.

I did 50 push-ups (27, then 23).  80 sit-ups (varied types, 40 and 40).  And 50 squats.  Oddly enough, I slowed down a ton in the last 15 sec.  Quest on!

Update:

Swam 800 m. this morning.

Today is probably going to be a recovery day.  I might walk the dogs tonight, not sure.  I feel torn between drained and motivated.  It's weird!  I'm not gonna qualify for this challenge, but I'm trying to start the habit now instead of next week!
