Challenge End Report Back

Blaidd

Recommended Posts

Oops -- just found this thread. I did a wrapup post over in my challenge thread. TL;DR: I "succeeded" (air quotes emphasized) but I'm not hugely pleased with my (lack of) progress on my stated main quest. I feel a little like I 'gamed my own game' in a way. Still, I did gain quite a bit of experience (referencing both the RPG and IRL senses of the word, I think) and I learned a lot about how I've changed as a person since the last time I tried to sort myself out like this. I'm very glad I did it, and very grateful for the support of this weird and wonderful group of misfit rebels.

Perhaps hanging with the Assassins next challenge will help me overcome whatever psychological Resistance is blocking my way :)

Don't forget you also have another 5 points that you can allocate now that the challenge is over.

Wait, what? We do? Oh. Um. I... (runs away and scribbles out some private math) OK, signature updated. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Thanks again for all you do, Blaidd! This has been an awesome initiation into a terrific community, and we owe a lot of it to you.

See you all around out in the big wide Rebellion! Keep fighting!

Wrap-up:

Main Quest: Get used to going to the Gym

I need to make the routine.  I need to manage the routine.  I need to learn where I stand and what I’m truly capable of in 6 weeks of dedication.  I have no idea how my body will respond.  I can’t decide what a weight loss/lift goal is because I don’t know the metrics.  Just get there.  Just be consistent.

Sub Quests:

1) Go to the Gym and lift weights 15 times.

     A-15, B-12, C-9, F-8 or fewer.

     A) +3 STR +2 CON +1 CHA   B ) +3 STR +2 CON C) +1 STR +2 CON

RESULTS: 13 trips, Grade B, +3 STR +2 CON (feeling the STR!!)

2) Use the bike 20 minutes each time.

     A-15, B-12, C-9, F-8 or fewer.

     A) +3 STA +1 CHA, B )  +2 STA +1 CHA, C) +1 STA

Results: Got on the bike every time I went! 12, B: +2 STA +1 CHA

3) Do the Beginner Bodyweight Workout 12 Times.

     A-12, B-9, C-6, D-5, F-4 or fewer.

     A) +2 STR +1 DEX, B )  +1 STR +1 DEX, C) +1 DEX

Bodyweight: 11 times, almost got the A. +1 STR +1 DEX (felt the DEX this morning getting bending and twisting to get my son ready for school)

Life Quest: Save 50% of the money we need for Christmas ($300)

Sick and tired of saving up a little starting around thanksgiving and feeling guilty because I bought extra lights for the house!  Start early, get $600 in the bank, and enjoy Christmas!

     A - $300, B-$225, C-$150, D-$75, F-<$75

     A) +2 WIS B )  +1 WIS C) +1 WIS

There is $160 in the savings account.  C.  +1 WIS

Side notes - I like starting Strength.  I have the app, it works awesome.  I need friends to go with me!  Working on a plan for that.  Switching to Paleo has resulted in a net loss of over 20 pounds while gaining muscle mass.  I've lost over 3 inches in my waist as well!!  I'm currently wearing my Captain America t-shirt that I originally could tuck in, and guess what?  It's tucked in!

8/28/14 - Today I climbed a mountain.  A FREAKING MOUNTAIN.  Last year I would have had to stop, this year I made it up, next year I'm gonna OWN it.

I want to be strong.  I love data, I love numbers, and I love tracking my body, but in the end I just want to be strong.  I want my chest to stick out further than my stomach and I want to lift, play with, and move my sons.  That's what's important to me.  Change will happen. Not in days and weeks but in months and years..... But that's ok because I'm in this for the long haul.

At the end of my challenge I was able to deadlift 405 completely raw, which is a huge step forward and a success.

I completely dropped the ball on my cut, and lost no net weight.  I actually gained a couple of pounds.

So I consider this to be an okay first challenge as I met half my goals.  Don't know if this qualifies me to be a warrior yet or not.  If not I'll try again with the next challenge.

It most certainly does qualify you :D

I am a failure and I should go die in a fire. :hopelessness: Also, I'm always late for everything.

Main quest: Ongoing, but I'll probably never get there. I'm not going to give up, don't get me wrong! I just don't think I'll ever be able to do it. I'm just trying to keep myself from becoming obese like I used to be and prevent diabetes and other health problems I might get. At least I'll be just overweight.

Sub Quests:

1) Lose 10 Pounds: I give myself an E

I lost five. Fifty percent is not good enough for me. It's been six friggin weeks! I get nothing. Good day, sir.

2) Finish School Project: D

At least I did it, even if I procrastinated like hell and was too chicken to speak in front of the whole class. (+1 WIS because I got something through my thick skull)

3) DDR Fitness- Five "feet": D

I could do some five feet songs for a little while but callouses on my feet that make me feel like I have rocks in my shoes when I'm not even wearing anything, inconsistent practice and lack of sleep brought me back down. I have only myself to blame. (+1 STA because I did notice an increase in energy)

Five extra points? I'm sure I can find someplace to put them that would be an accurate representation of my stats.

I began a week late, so I'm wrapping up late, too.  I just posted about my 5K race today here on my challenge thread.  I am also going to try to do Dinovember this month for the kiddos!

GOALS

1. Trough of salad a day and no food past 8pm.  Fell off the wagon for a week or two - but did take strides toward making these habits.  No pts awarded.

2. 5K Prep - run 3 x week.  Check!  +2 STA, +2 CON, +1 DEX

3. Chin ups - get to 6.  Made it!  Six isn't easy for me yet, but I can do it! +1 STR

LIFE QUEST: Memorize notes on guitar.  This one was fun. +2 WIS

MINI QUESTS: +1 CON, +1 WIS, +1 CHA

END OF CHALLENGE 5PTS:  +1 STR, +3 STA, +1 DEX (Mostly for the distance running!)

You guys are great!  See you next challenge!

No need to die in a fire please.  Just because this challenge was a bust (in your mind), doesn't mean that you are a bust!!  As for your weight loss, if you were a complete failure you wouldn't have lost a single pound!!!  PLUS pounds are never a very accurate way to measure your success, measure your inches next time and see if how you managed there. You might be losing fat but you're also gaining muscle (and those muscles weigh much more, so you need to lose 3 pounds of fat for every pound of muscle you gain).

You could have adjusted your DDR quest a little due to lack of sleep and the callouses. So i don't think that's a bust either.  FWIW you actually did something, therefore not a complete fail!!  You pass, you level up and you get to join a guild.  Well done.

We all have rough patches.  And, I really do think that we are all our own worst enemy.  Focus on the positives.  You lost weight, you finished your project, and you made progress on the DDR.  GOOD JOB!!  You are better off today then you were 6 weeks ago.  That, my friend, is a win!!

***UPDATE TO QUEST WRAP UP***

I had originally thought that I had followed my plan and I did not complete the main goal (which was to lose 10lbs), even though I got A's in my quests!

.. well my final weigh in last week said I lost 9.6lbs...

It just clicked with me this morning... I am a bit dense at times...
