HI! I'm not really sure what to put here but I heard that it was good to have a battle log to keep you motivated. Hopefully you'll bear with me while I figure this out. I'm always open for suggestions and new ideas. Here goes nothing.

 

I've tried and failed in the past to get healthy. Last year I really committed to it but then had to stop working out due to constantly hurting myself. I finally went to a doctor to get checked out (due to encouragement and a fair pit of coercion by my now-husband). It turned out that I had congenital hip dysplasia. Basically my hips never formed correctly. I was told that I would need to get both of my hips replaced or wait until it progressed until i was able to walk. Long story short, I had both of my hips replaced, one in June and the other August. Since then I've been trying to get back on my feet (ha!) and get healthy.

 

Thanks to the support of my fellow rebels I completed my first 6 week challenge last week. You guys are so awesome! I am looking forward to my next 6 week challenge coming up in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, I'm going to keep the momentum going by tracking my progress here.

Rest/Mobility Day 10/28/2014

 

I completed 3 sun salutations. I'm still having difficulty achieving all poses without modifications, but I am sooooo much better at it then I was before I got my bionic hips. Now the poses are challenging but achievable.

Day 4 of weight training. The gym at my apartment complex wasn't open so I replaced lat pulldowns with bent over dumbbell rows.

 

I'm super happy about adding weights to my squats! Up to this point, I've been too afraid to do any weights with my squats or lunges. Hopefully I don't feel like this tomorrow:

After a long hiatus, I'm back. I let stress and drama at work distract me from my real goals, which are to be healthy and happy. But I'm back on track now. Squeezed in a quick workout this morning. Not my best workout, but it's a start.

Wednesday's Work Out:

 

20 minutes of yoga and meditation. I focused on super tight areas that have been giving me trouble lately. My fave poses are currently cat/camel, child's pose, lying figure 4, and (of course) corpse pose. Really, really enjoyed getting back in to my practice.

 

Thursday's Work Out:

 

Inspired by Steve's latest post, I did my workout while watching an episode of Agents of Shield. 2 sets of 10 push ups, squats, backward lunges and V-ups.

Another 20 minutes of yoga and meditation today. I feel so relaxed and calm. It's amazing :D

 

I've found youtube super useful for meditation music. The one I am currently listening to lasts for 6 hours. link

I've managed to practice yoga every day this week. While it feels amazing to stretch and relax, the yoga sessions have also made me more aware of my body's struggles. I've noticed soreness in my joints that I had been ignoring. It feels like a mix between recent weight gain and reactions to food. So I'm back to filtering out dairy and bread. More veggies and fruits are what my body needs right now.

 

Side success: I haven't had a single drop of soda for almost a week now. Yay! My body is feeling much better without all that sugar and caffeine.

Yesterday I decided to walk to my local yarn store to finish my Sunshine Shawl. It was hot and miserable the whole time, but I did it! I walked 3.3 miles in an hour. Lesson learned though, do not wear shorts while walking long distances. I will definitely be wearing jeans or work out clothes the next time I attempt.

 

Today I was inspired by Chris Pratt's transformation for his role as Star Lord. So I got my butt to my apartment's work out room right before the doors locked for the night. I got in a really good bike rid while reading my BioShock book. 3.8 miles in 30 minutes. 

 

I had soda today and yesterday. It's just so friggin addictting!!! I did continue with my trend of yoga though. Yoga makes everything better.
