1) Candy Land Escape from Holiday Treats*
Every year, the holidays start to feel like a gauntlet of poor food choices combined with a big helping of guilt masquerading as holiday cheer.  You can't avoid "opportunities" to eat calorie-laden, low-nutrient foods unless you crawl into a hole and pull it in after you.  And trying to say "No, thank you" to friends, family, and random strangers proffering these items becomes an exercise in extreme diplomacy.  I usually feel like Scrooge crossed with the Grinch before Thanksgiving is done. Forget the wreath on the door ..... this should go up as a fair warning to neighbors:

il_570xN.476849950_27vg.jpg
(Maybe I should tattoo it on my forehead ....???)

So, this year, I'm embracing the challenge!!!!  Bring on the gauntlet!!!  We'll have some fun framing the holiday season as the battle ground that it often seems to be, populated with sugar monsters, office party swamps, and little devils pushing caramel corn and cookies at us whenever we are weakest.  For fun, people may join in the game - pop over to the accountability group (which I will create shortly ....) and have some fun with me.  (Keep in mind that this is NOT a well-constructed game ... just somewhat of gallows humor designed to raise a laugh as we try to avoid gaining the traditional 5 pounds that Americans put on ---- and do not lose ---- each holiday season.)

*Thanks, Beaucastle for the name!!!

At stake for me: 1  CON, 1 WIS, 1 CHA, 1 STA, 1 STR - if I escape (i.e. get to the end of the game board)

2) Apprentice to the Black Widow

Yeap, I'm back among the Assassins to work on changing body composition and redevelop the ability to do a pullup (among other bodyweight workout goals)!!  I refuse to give up on this goal and will be working hard at reducing the amount of assistance I need on the pullup machine at the gym.  By the end of the challenge, I want to be able to do 3 x 8 at 100 pounds of assistance or less.

At stake: 1 STR, 1 DEX

3) Comfortable in any Setting
Since I work at home, it's way too easy to get stuck inside as winter descends upon us.  I can become a hermit, sitting at the computer, getting all my social interaction online. I live in the 5th coldest city in the United States .... I love it, but it can become a challenge to get outside in the winter. So ... gotta fight that trend and get reacquainted with people and my favorite city. Besides .... assassins have to blend in everywhere, right?

My goal is to get out and do some adventuring every day!!!  The list of possible adventures will keep growing as I think of things.  Some will be planned, but some will be random (dice roll or picking a card).

At stake: 2 CHA, 1 WIS

4) Outrun the Ghost of Christmas Past
Running is good for my spirits and usually kicks S.A.D right in the teeth too.

So, finish C25K and run the http://gobblegallop.com/ and the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis with take place on Thanksgiving and then a week later.  Let's hope for no ice!  I can handle cold air, but I don't want to risk messing up my ankle again.

At stake: 1 DEX, 2 STA

5) Destress
Meditate daily.

At stake: 2 WIS

The goal is to NOT go over 165 pounds (losing weight would be even better), to hold BF% steady or even reduce a little, and to emerge at the end of the challenge filled with health and holiday spirit!!!

Do you ski, snowshoe or ice skate? Duluth has a lot of easily accessible outdoor options. Oh I know, the curling club, that'd be a fun social adventure or broomball.

I used to play hockey and I just went to the TrailFitters store tonight to inquire about their recommendations for snow shoes.  I love hiking and am going to join the Lake Superior Hiking Trail club .... it runs right by our house.  There's a good reason Duluth was named number one best town by Outdoor Magazine!!!!

The surprising thing is that some people complain that there's nothing to do .... I suppose if you're really into the night club scene, it's probably sparse.

If people come up for Grandma's Marathon in June, I have guest rooms.  One twin daybed and one normal queen bed.  Plus a couple of couches.  You just have to deal with a dog and a cat .....

May take you up on that...if not this year, some year :-)

Love your game...trying not to overcommit, but still want to give you props. Perfect for this time of you.

Thanks!!  I think we could adapt it for any challenge, really, and I think it is sustainable without driving the organizer nuts.

Wow. Those are a lot of quests. That seems like quite a challenge, even if they're pretty complimentary. Good luck!

I know those feels. My birthday is the 18th of November and I'm always a bit grumpy about Christmas stuff being up before then. I usually even refuse to drink egg nog until after that point, despite the fact that egg nog is delicious and I would drink it year round if that was an option otherwise.

My brother's birthday is November 24th, and he always had issues with Thanksgiving taking priority. There were years we moved our Thanksgiving dinner to do his birthday instead.

My hubby's birthday is December 30th.  We're honestly TIRED of sweets and celebrating by then - and presents often get rolled into our celebration of Christmas.  At least, he gets to choose what we have for dinner that night.

Goal progress

Diet: 0/42

Workout: 1/42

Freggies: 1/42

Meditate: 1/42

Spread holiday cheer: 0/42

Adventure: 1/42

Assassin's mini: 120 high knees!

I was doing well on the diet front.  I'm at Diet DefCon 3 (no alcohol, refined sugars, or fried foods), and I would have made it if I hadn't been asleep at the wheel when a friend offered me a little cookie.  We were chatting and suddenly the plate full of chocolate was in front of my nose.  I stuck to ONE and then had a very healthy dinner as my game forfeit.

We got about 3 inches of snow today, but more is coming.  The snow wasn't so much the problem as the ICE that formed underneath as it fell.  I think I slid through 1/2 of the intersections the morning as I went to orthodontics and hair appointments.  Fortunately, traffic was light, but I could see where other people had stopped by means of stop signs and tree trunks.  Me, with the 4 wheel drive, I hit on the strategy of carefully taking corners when I couldn't stop and there was traffic.  The wheels would pull just fine .... stopping however - not so much.  I hate ice.

Choir rehearsal was cancelled, which was a relief.  We need the practice badly, but I really didn't want to go driving again.  I figured two trips counted as my adventure for the day.

I did need to do a workout, however.  So I put the Nordic Track back together and did some bodyweight exercises with my FitDeck cards.  The Nordic Track really is a good workout, and I can do it while watching TV.  It works my butt something fierce and is easier on the joints than running.   So ..... a good cross training exercise.  And I may need to use it again tomorrow.  But I hope to get back to running again at the gym in a day or so.

I even turn on to BBC One (A channel with no adverts), during the advert breaks in a show I am watching elsewhere to avoid the adverts!

It works my butt something fierce

For some reason I found this hilarious
