I've been feeling very introspective lately, and I think I've come to the realization that I am way too hard on myself.  Firstly, (and I don't want this to sound like I am making excuses for having bad days or what not), but I have the tendency of hating myself if I have an "off" day.  I feel this never ending need to be perfect and in control of ALL THE THINGS ALL THE TIME (my damn OCD!)

 

Anyways, I was reading Steve's article about adding potions to your boss fight, and it really resonated with me.  I don't have to be in control and make flawless decisions 100% of the time.  When I really sit and think of everything I've accomplished, I should be really super proud of myself.  I'm well within a healthy weight range, my body fat % has been greatly reduced, I'm doing things now that I never before thought possible, and I've made drastic, beneficial, and long lasting changes to the way I eat.  I'm so sick of thinking I'm a failure if I don't eat 100% Paleo every single day or if I take a total rest day from exercise.  Why do I feel the need to make everything so hard?

 

I need to redirect my thoughts.  I need to be nicer to myself.  I need to be able to look in the mirror and see the positive physical changes I've made, rather than dwell on the little bit of cellulite I see on my hamstrings.  

 

This doesn't mean that I'm going to quit working out or begin to eat like a sloven, I still know what I need to do to feel good, but I'm going to give myself permission to stop worrying about every little misstep I take.  

 

When it comes down to it, I want to keep my weight somewhere between 130 and 140.  And I've been able to do that for over a year now, even with the missteps!  As long as I keep doing what I've been doing, I should be able to accomplish this.

 

Most importantly, I am happier and healthier that I think I've ever been in my life.  So...for the love of God, LittleTurtle, lighten up and remember your f***ing Main Quest - HAVE FUN!

 

LAUGH OF THE DAY

As I was heading out for lunch today, I drove by a huge herd of antelope.  I noticed that they were all staring at something across the street.  When I turned my head to see what they were looking at, I saw another huge herd in someone's front yard eating their trees.  It wasn't a big laugh, but enough to make me pause and realize that I was in a good mood which is monumental for the week I've had.  :frog:

 

Sorry things are rotten, Turtle. Thanks for keeping me entertained with your laugh of the day. I hope things pick up again for you soon.

Thank you.  Surprisingly, I am in a great mood today.  It's amazing what a good night's rest will do!

LittleTurtle, I love this post and the insights. Yes!

I really like that you're choosing a maintenance goal range instead of fixation on a specific number - this is wonderful and just right.

On Monday, I decided to drastically up my daily water intake.  This week, I've probably averaged about 80 ounces of water per day.  I cannot even begin to express the amazing benefits I've encountered this week!  I don't seem nearly as hungry, my eyeballs feeling amazing and aren't so dry and stingy, the dark circles that are ALWAYS under them no matter how much sleep I've had have begun to diminish tremendously, my energy levels are way up, and I'm starting to feel very positive and happy...even though the week started out like shit and I was feeling like a super crab.

 

I seriously recommend anyone who reads this to give it a shot.  I used to get maybe 40 ounces of water a day, and yeah - you'll be going to the bathroom much more frequently, but if you space it out evenly throughout the day, it won't seem so bad.

 

I'm laughing right now because I always talk about how much I love water, but I only thought I loved being IN the water, not the water being in ME!  LOL!!  <--- LAUGH OF THE DAY!! :frog:

LAUGH OF THE DAY (for yesterday)

I can't remember exactly what was said, but it had something to do with me having difficulty using apple slicers and how I wanted an apple corer.  My boyfriend made some comment about if I can't use an apple peeler, I'd probably poke an eye out with the corer.

I'm not gonna lie:  I've been very preoccupied with preparing my home for the holidays.  I've been so distracted getting ready for Christmas, that I've been slipping a bit on the goals.  The one thing that I've been very in control of this week is my diet.  I've made a compromise with myself.  I don't have to eat 100% Paleo, but I do have to be very VERY strict about my wheat and sugar intake.  I've become acutely aware of the fact that those are my binge triggers.  If I can stay away from that stuff, I feel like I'm in much better control of my diet.  I've been getting a little exercise in, but mostly focusing on cleaning the house like a crazy woman (and for the record, I TOTALLY count that as exercise...especially because it took me 3 hours to clean just our bedroom the other night. :lol:)

 

So between working, cleaning, Christmas shopping, decorating, and everything in between - my priorities are a little skewed for the time being.  I'm okay with that because I'm happy with how my body and mind have been feeling the past week and a half.  I truly believe the increase in water has done wonders for me!

 

Anyways...that's where I've been.  :frog:

LAUGH OF THE DAY
Lately, I've been very conscientious about doing all I can to not get sick over the holidays. Drinking plenty of water, taking my vitamins, washing my hands frequently, etc... But today, I answered the phone at work and the lady on the other end of the line was coughing in my ear and for a split second I was really pissed and worried that I'd catch her cold...

Yeah, Turtle...it doesn't work like that! LOL!

You guys.  I'm having SUCH A HARD TIME.  There are about a gazillion treats in the Office.  It has taken every shred of willpower I have to resist.  And I have!  But I don't know how much longer my will power is going to last!!!!  I still have been very lax with exercise, but I've been doing really well with my diet.  However.  If I don't plant my face in the giant caramel rolls that are on the counter, I think my brain is going to break.  They smell delicious and I want one SO bad.  I keep telling myself that the rolls are not the boss of me.  I will indulge a bit on Christmas Eve...if I can last that long!

My mail cart was "borrowed" sometime last week at work.  I've sent three emails and made an intercom announcements begging for whomever used it to bring it back.  I still have yet to see it.  Anyways, our Activities Secretary emailed the staff today about some missing keys and I couldn't resist replying to all by saying, "Yeah.  Good luck with that!"

imo, and risking of being an evil advocate of the devil..   if your overall lvl of diet, or constraint, or just plain healthy way of eating is very consistent.  then those caramel things cant be so bad.  If taken by one or not any number that consist of the whole box..   Caramel could be a good thing.; since it last a long time being .. sticky caramel to consume      ; apart of that it's all sugar  & terrible & awfull  ..  you should at least..   appel, fruit + caramel fondu ..  no ; no , maybe ..   I mean ONE day in the eye of the universal time of being , why not a bit of carmenally sweetness   ; i'm feeling your brain-breaking pain :s  and I don't even like caramel  :/

I debated that.  I still haven't eaten a caramel roll, but I did indulge in a bit of the almond roca.  And yes...if I eat a little, it will end up being a LOT!!  :)

LOL!  You're so right.  A little treat every now and again isn't bad.  However, once I start - I find it terribly hard to stop!  :P

FINAL REPORT

 

Challenge #11 Spreadsheet

 

I had fun.  In that respect, I get an A.  However - towards the end of the challenge, I lost my motivation for any kind of exercise, but with that I've learned that when I don't exercise - I suffer more headaches and backaches.  This is something to remember for the next challenge.

 

My diet habits are pretty damn solid.  I only eat a treat if I really want one, and I always weigh the pros and cons before making my final decision.  I've come to learn that full Paleo isn't all that great for me because I feel too deprived.  BUT - if I eat close to Paleo (allowing minimal dairy, oats, and rice), I feel frickin' great!   :D  That being said, I really REALLY have to watch my wheat intake.  And sugar intake (damn my sweet tooth, damn it all to hell!!!)  I start to feel like shit if I eat too much wheat and sugar.  It's so hard to resist!!  I'm going to work really hard on that during the next challenge.

 

My "Laugh of the Day" was super fun.  I wish I would've remembered to note more, because I LOVE to go back and read them for a giggle.  

 

All in all - I learned a lot and had FUN!
