Darkfoxx 14: Insert Something Witty Here

Holding to see if something witty comes to me this weekend...

Edit: When in doubt, Internet cats.

Grumpy-Cat-Is-Addicted-To-Fitness-----Sm

Overarching Goal

Hasn't changed - still trying to get my body comp where I want it through tight-ish metrics + building strength to be able to do all the OCR-related things I want to do. I realize I *could* accomplish this goal faster by adhering to stricter weekend metrics and incorporating more intense workouts, but I'm lazy at heart - let's just stick to doing what I can do and to upping the baseline intensity level, rather than attacking a heavy-duty something all at once and fizzling out because no one's watching/my program has ended/I lose interest.

Goal 1: Fitness

Like always. Since I'm trying to claw my way out of a little motivation slump at the beginning of this challenge, I think I'll focus on building the toolkit of cool shit I want to be able to do. And I have a 5-miler to train-ish for on Thanksgiving.

Cool Shit Toolkit

Goal 2: Metrics

Metrics make me happy and they work for me, so I'm sticking with them. As a refresher, my metrics are: 100 grams or under of carbs, 70 grams or over of protein, under 100 grams of fat and around 1500 calories. Water is the recommended by FitBit 64 ounces, and on the weekends I like my step count to be over FitBit’s recommended 10,000. I track food with My Fitness Pal and exercise, sleep and water with the FitBit Flex. Weight and BF are tracked with my FitBit Aria scale. FitBit. I also use a combo of FitBit + Runkeeper + Zombies, Run! To track my workouts, though I'm thinking of dropping Runkeeper and who knows what will happen when iOS8 and the new Apple Health comes out. I'm sure I'll be jumping at least some of these ships in favor of that, if it's as awesome as advertised.

Goal 3: Other Shit

This 'other shit' goal worked well for me last challenge. While I didn't get anything actually crossed off my list, I *did* make progress toward most of these goals. I need to continue on that track.

  • Whittle more things out of the house - I'd like to clear enough off of a bookcase to get rid of it.
  • Continue the leaving my house on weekdays (maybe even sometimes without my hubby) and being at least somewhat social.
  • Work on the damn scarf I've been knitting for 2 years now. Finish before Spring?
  • Continue streamlining my wardrobe/getting rid of shit I don't need/getting things that are too big for me altered so they're not wasting space/get the shoes I need cobbled cobbled.
  • Drag the clothes I'm donating out of the closets they came out of out the door and to the donation place.

*Waves frantically* HI! Yay, new challenge!

You will destroy it, as you always do, with your Epic Broadsword of Efficiency (Since you're so little, I like to think of you whaling on things with a blade as big as you are. It's a hilarious and awesome mental image, I assure you :))

Hi! Like the new picture, and the race schedule woah. You've got me itching to try running again...after some major calf rolling (owwwww) and stretching.

I know this is dumb, but at first I honestly thought you meant whittling..like carving things out of wood :-)

You're challenge seems smart and focused on exactly what you want to do. Envious of yoga handstand myself.

@Fonzico: YAS!!!! Kinda like for reals I'd love to be able to do that :)

@Xena: Give me time ... I'll get to wood whittling. Kinda always wanted to do that, too. :)

Hi, all. Took the weekend off for a mini-vacation, but will get back at it today -- the mini-vacay was in Lake Placid, NY - during the only real off season, it seemed. Pretty much everything was closed, but we ended up having a good time anyways. Hiked a bit - my favorite part was scrambling up a rock face using a rope - and I had to constantly remind myself *not* to just hurry up and get my feet muddy because it's all downhill from here. Great mentality for a mud run; not so great in leather boots in the snow. :)

I think we want to go back in deep winter when the lake is frozen over to try skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. And the lake toboggin chute. Plus the dogsledding.

But, we shall see on that one -- we seem to have come back to the old man having a horrible case of the poos -- poor dog looks mortified and pitiful. I don't know if it's from all the excitement at the babysitter's or what, but he is a damn mess. And apparently, my little jackass of a dachshund who is normally hella mean to my old man (jumping on his face and whatnot to keep him in line) was his guardian this weekend -- he wouldn't let anyone (dog or human) get near Nembu all weekend and protected him from the other dogs' craziness the whole time. Sweet and totally unexpected.

And more disjointed vacation stuffs -- ate way too much damn cheese and potatoes. But ... I had amazeballs fried duck hearts, a killer pork & truffle pate, and some really really good lumberjack style breakfasts, so it was totally kind of worth it. I must have been doing something right, because although I'm on a fat bounce, I lost .1 of a pound while on vacation. It's a small victory, but I'll keep it.

Ooh. And the day before we left, I worked on pistol squats, headstands and handstands. And thought my quads were going to leave my body for two whole days. My knee was also bugging me all weekend. I need to be cognizant of when I am working on pistol squats - I did like 10-15 per side assisted using a chair and the dishwasher for form, and it jacked me up. I need to not do that right before yoga class day.

/end streamofconsciuosness

Prettifying of the goal post coming + maybe I'll pick something I want to use as post images; I'm kind of digging doing that.

The duck hearts were bananas - battered and fried and tender yet chewy, meaty, ducky, good - with bleu cheese mash & green beans. This is the place we ate at. Lots of interesting taste pairings I'm going to have to experiment with.

This is the toboggan and it looks fantastic. This lake also has dog sledding & public ice skating during deep winter, too. We are very intrigued.

The vacation was good - the town is weird -- it's waaaaaayyyy too wrapped up in the 'Miracle On Ice' deal from the 1980 winter Olympics that happened there (like, to a kind of sad degree), but it seems like the town has a few other things going for it - most notably, the Olympic rink where pros still practice and they still have games (the Can Am kids games were in town while we were there), a mountain for winter sports, I think the olympic ski jumps and stuff are still operational, and they also have Ironman things in the summer. Definitely an interesting little place.

Sweet. Growing up mostly in the South and then living in South Florida for a few years, I have no idea what this 'choosing to be outside in the winter' business is. I think I might like to find out this year, instead of just barricading myself in my apartment/suffering through months of nausea because it's too hot or too cold to work out/breathe/live.

Maybe *then* I won't dread winter.

Week 1 Day 1 Update

Goal 1:  Fitness

Like always. Since I'm trying to claw my way out of a little motivation slump at the beginning of this challenge, I think I'll focus on building the toolkit of cool shit I want to be able to do. And I have a 5-miler to train-ish for on Thanksgiving.

Today was an inglorious start to challenge. My old man had horrendous stomach issues all day and I ended up carpeting my kitchen/hallway with potty pads & painters tape - right over where I work out. That, coupled with all the literal shit I had to deal with all day had me unmotivated to work out to say the least.

So far this morning, it looks like the trend is continuing, just not as violently as yesterday.

Goal 2: Metrics

Metrics make me happy and they work for me, so I'm sticking with them.

Breakfast: DH's green smoothie with hemp protein powder + 7-11 coffee

Lunch: Cold London broil when I thought I could stomach it + a ginger spice Kind bar

Dinner: Pork chop with bacon-wrapped butternut squash

Snack: 1 apple

Calories: 1,122 out of 1500

Carbs: 91 out of 100g

Fat: 43 out of 100g

Protein: 103 out of 70 g

Water: 64 out of 64oz.

Weight: 119.5

Calories In vs. Out: 1122 In v 1500 Out

Sleep: 7 hours & 44 minutes - awake 3x, restless 19x

Activity: 5 (very active minutes) 1.27 (miles) 3,114 (steps)

Goal 3: Other Shit

Reduce Household Crap

Keep Attempting IRL social

Work on knitting scarf

Continue streamlining & fixing wardrobe

Get rid of the clothes I've decided I'm going to donate

Did I work toward any of these goals today? Nope. Dog exhaustion - I didn't even put the suitcase back in the closet.

Yikes hope the poor guy feels better. I dog-sat a spaniel once who got stressed out when his owners were gone and...yeah. I actually sat in it once, and called my dad to bring me clean shorts :PPP

Glad your weekend was awesome and delicious!

@Hiroro: That. Is. Horrible.

Re: The Weekend - I'm pretty damn impressed with myself for a: only going with a half-formed itinerary, b: adapting when every damn thing on it was closed for the season, and c: without freaking out and working myself into a blubbering mess of emotions.

The hubbs was also shocked and excited about this new development. :)

Ooh way to be flexible  :rapture:

I always want to super plan every weekend trip, but it's definitely good to be capable of relaxing into the moment. *twitch**twitch*
