Raise the Gates! Runner 5s of Abel Township

Recommended Posts

I fell behind a bit this week because of the crazy weather where I am... It's hard to run outside when the sidewalks are covered in snow. I convinced myself that using a treadmill isn't a terrible thing on Thursday but then didn't get the app setup right so I did week 3 ep 1 on THursday and again yesterday. Both days I ran for over 19 minutes and yesterday I managed a 2 4+ minute runs . I'm finding that I could run for longer but I guess my willpower craps out.

Any suggestions on how to make running on a treadmill more like running outside? I think I'll need to be able to run inside if we get a bunch of snow because people aren't that diligent about clearing sidewalks.

When you find out, let me know. I had to retreat to a dreadmill this summer when it was 100F every day. My apartment treadmill didn't even have a TV nearby. Watching netflix without wifi is not cheap.  When I found a gym with wifi though, I was watching Xena, Warrior Princess.

We need a snowplough attachment that can be strapped on to the front of a runner so they can plough their own furrow.

Hi all! Sorry I disappeared there for a while. It's been a rough week. But I hope all the Americans in the group enjoyed their Thanksgiving, and that everyone else had a fantastic week! Now for your next mini...

Mini-Challenge #4: Seriously, Don't Eat Zombies

Food is hard to come by, so it's difficult to be too picky. The biggest piece of advice to give, as stated by our friends in Radio Abel: don't eat zombie meat, even if you cook it first. Not a good idea. That said, just because food is scarce doesn't mean that it has to be disgusting. In fact, restriction breeds creativity as they say, so let's get creative with our foods!

This week, experiment with a new recipe and let us know the results! Pictures, the recipe itself, your opinion of it, etc. Let's get some food porn going! :)

Ah, but back to runs! Oh and blkhole24601? Izzy is the very best. I'm kinda sad that I haven't heard anything about her coming back in Inquisition! Q~Q

I love Izzy! But she does at least get a mention if you romanced her. Spoilers below...

When Hawke makes her cameo, you can talk to her about her friends and family when you first meet her and she says something along the lines of, "Oh, Isabela and I don't believe in commitment. We'll get back together once I'm done helping out the Wardens etc." Except then later she's taunted by the level's boss that Isabela will die, which annoys Hawke greatly, and later Varric has to write a letter to Isabela about Hawke running off to Weisshaupt and makes the comment, "Isabela is going to be furious." Right you two. Don't believe in commitment. No one believed you ever.

I'm more irked that Zevran only gets a mention under two circumstances in Inquisition. No cameo at all. We get the other love interests either making a cameo or playing large roles, but Zevran only gets a mention if the Warden is alive and you romanced him, or if your Inquisitor is a rogue who chooses the assassin specialization. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. At least he had an entire mission and the possibility of helping out in the final battle in DA2 to make up for it??? Or (more spoilers)

then there's the fact that he's the only love interest not left behind by the Warden when s/he goes off to find the cure for the Calling? Alistair gets left behind even if he's a Warden too, Morrigan does, Leliana does... but Zevran? Nope, he gets to stay with the Warden. So there is that at least???

The mystery for the ages. I usually use the treadmill for intervals and yeah, having Zombies, Run! makes it go by a lot easier, but ugggggh... I can't wait for a VR treadmill, I'm just saying. Why doesn't this exist yet? :( (Or at least, why doesn't this exist in gyms people can actually afford yet because I wouldn't be surprised if VR treadmills do exist but only for the obscenely rich...)

Best. Thing. To watch. Ever. Xena was my hero as a kid. :D

Today, just as I was setting out for my run, it got all thundery and damp.  Any sensible person would have said "Let's do this another time" but NOPE! So I've just done my very first run in a thunderstorm.  It was not too bad actually - I quickly got used to the dampness, and at least it was cool.  Now, as I'm back home again, the rain has stopped and there is even some blue sky.  I just have very good timing, I think.

I've made it to the first run of week 7, so the end is in sight. Huzzah!

I missed my run Sunday and talked myself out of it Monday (also ran way too many errands), so I completed 3.3 today. I didn't do much more than the run drills as it was raining and I wasn't really interested on seeing how far I could slip while still standing on two feet.

So in 43 minutes, I covered 3.66km. Which is worse than my last run, 4km in 44 minutes...but I did do considerably more running. Ah, but maybe tomorrow'll be better.

And I'll make supply runs soooo much faster.

Alas I'm more confident with trying to run in the rain now. Wonder if I can get past the 4k mark again...wish me luck!

@jaz and @claireloise,its good to know someone is out there, bringing home supplies of marmite, whatever the weather, in the face of not just zombies but also precipitation. Good work, both!

I did another 5k episode today and passed 5k! The best part was that I ran for about 25/44 minutes with a pace of 8:30ish/km! I'll probably pay for it tomorrow but I've got my fingers crossed that I don't . The fast walking that I did over the weekend helped me break through my mental barrier so I'm happy.

Hi Everyone.

So, I'm new to nerd fitness and everything, so I hope I'm doing this right.

My Zombie Link :)

Last summer I was zombie running every day and it was amazing. Then winter happened and I lost momentum, so I decided to start all over from the begininng. Its been more misses than hits, but I'm getting there. Tomorrow I'm going to go on my first run since May. Wish me luck. You have my permission to kick my butt if I don't come back here and tell you how it went :D

I went for an adventure this morning! I went for my run on the beach, where the tide was pretty high.  This made finding firm sand to run on rather tricky.  And about 5 mins into the run, it started bucketing down.  Surprisingly, it was actually pretty fun! I'm fairly glad that there was no-one to watch me trying to skip in the water, sinking into the sand up to my ankles.  Towards the end of the run, I decided to get off the sand and headed up to the road.  This, however, necessitated wading across a creek.  It was a good thing that I was already soaked, because it was well above my knees.  My dog needed quite some convincing that this was a good idea.

It was easy to imagine that I was on an epic quest of some sort, battling on through inclement weather to save the town.... or something.  Who knew running could be so exciting?

I know I'm a day late, but I have been experimenting with new foods, as part of the Week 4 Challenge

Tonight's Endeavour: Mussels.  To my knowledge, I have never eaten a mussel before, and I've certainly never cooked any.  But I've hear all sorts of good things about their nutritional value and sustainability and general badassery, so I decided to give them a go.

Method:

  • Acquire mussels
  • Clean under tap
  • Put in saucepan with some water , put lid on and steam them for 5-10 mins
  • Eat

It was actually a very simple process.  I made a tomato sauce to have with them - pretty much this one - and had a nice piece of multi-grain bread to mop up the leftovers.  Mussels certainly do have a distinctive taste, which... I think I like? But they may not be for everyone.  But I certainly enjoyed my dinner, and I feel so healthy now! I hope my body is making proper use of all those Omega-3 acids and iron and whatnot.

I didn't take a photo before eating, but I did capture the aftermath.
