WildColonialGrrl
Wild Colonial Grrl who is becoming Batgirl is still Rehabilitating as Oracle whilst finding and setting up a new Batcave! Here's the back story... Been living in my parent's house for nearly 3 years caring for my Grandmother whilst they live out a dream and travel around Australia in a Winnebago. Now they are back and I am preparing to move out. 113 days ago I was practicing TKD sparring and blocked a black belt's kick on a funny angle and got three injuries for the price of one: broken radius, wrist capsule sprain and ongoing thumb joint arthritic flare up from a misaligned joint that I wouldn't have known was a problem for 10-20 years otherwise. I put on a bit of weight again during this and struggled with my emotional well being. I want to be Batgirl by the time I am 40. Today I have 317 days remaining of Project 365... It doesn't feel like I'm getting far yet. Ongoing stuff I live with is chronic but well controlled asthma, severe arthritis under the L kneecap (wearing the bones away slowly from a dislocation many years ago) and a tendency towards anxiety and depression that I am getting better at catching early to medicate appropriately. I don't like change, I don't like that currently I am sharing my living space with my parents although we are doing ok so far, moving is stressful, end of the work year is stressful, having a bung wrist is stressful and I need to manage these things without eating all the chocolate and white flour carbs as well as finding a healthy medium through xmas parties and start of summer BBQs. Soon I will try the Donkey Kong method of planning for these things - Barrel (prob): Jump/Smash (strategies) - stay tuned! Epic goal: fit by 40 (be the batgirl) Challenge goal: Get moved and give myself a better Batcave for the future... Or something like that and keep healthy/sane(ish) along the way. Exercise: I used to do TKD and PT sessions twice a week and yoga: 2 cardio, 2 strength, 1 stretch. I am slowly getting some of those back and walking most days for at least 30mins.Through disruptions of moving and approaching xmas I will - walk at least 5 days per week. Do 1 cardio TKD or park run per week, and 4+ strength and stretching sessions over the 6 weeks. Rehab: Do as told! New instructions will be given on Monday and a new splint... Will fill in current details then.Week 1-4 wear new brace, do stretching and and strengthening exercises. Then see therapist again for next step... Well being: Awareness... Diet may come into this - have I made myself feel unwell, if so how?*do positive things that help my sense of well being* note what feels better and worse... I know that's a bit vague... Umm... Will note daily physical and emotional state and what has helped or hindered. The move:Started this Thursday of last week... Found and have applied for 3 new places. Will see how they go, then move to next step... Will set weekly tasks based on stage of process. Week 1:Find suitable homes Visit houses Get application forms Fill out application forms Apply and breath (repeat 1 -5 as required)Already doing step 5 for the first time, so may have a new set soon... Really, I"m doing this anyhow. It is not a challenge. Getting rid of stuff as I move is a challenge. I need to declutter in this move... I was thinking week 1 - 1 item per day, week 2 - 2 per day and so on. This gives me 147 items i needs to remove from my life by the end of challenge. I am going to round this up to 150 items in total and get at it! It's kind of a weird challenge... and may need some refining later... but it's something to keep me in the game with the aim to Level Up my life by the end of it. RisenPhoenix
Oooof, moving is rough. But, on the plus side, a new place means you can deck your batcave out however you like, which means it can be made optimally for you to be even more awesome! You will totally be a rocking Batgirl by your birthday, I have no doubt! WildColonialGrrl
Thanks RP.Turns out that under 7 hours disturbed sleep does not make me feel good... This should be no surprise.Stew is awesome, gym is awesome. New brace is awesome. Feeling happy and positive for the first time in a while. Will try to construct a pic of all my wrist appliances to show you where I'm at... 1 Quote Aussie Bush Ranger - Training with the Monks'I'll fight but not surrender', cried the wild colonial... WildColonialGrrl
A couple of edits to the challenge... Found a home. Get keys on the 21st Nov! Woo hoo! So, the move part of my challenge is going to happen, what I need support to do is get rid of the excess crap in my life. So I have set a decluttering goal instead! 150 items by the end of the challenge. The second half of the challenge when I start living in the house will be big as far as habit change potential... Last night was my Mum's 65th birthday. I ate too much curry. It was uncomfortable. If I think I am still a little hungry at the end of a meal it usually goes away... discomfort from overeating carries all the way into the next morning. Not good. Noted. (Now, to learn from it!) sarakingdom
Finding a new place is such a stressful process, and amazing when it's over! WildColonialGrrl
Walked 4 days so far this week (and if the local NFers are up for it I will do park run tomorrow morning - I will be wearing a batman type t-shirt) Went back to TKD on Wednesday. Lots of hugs. Wore plastic guard and did fine... and apparently the plastic isn't too hard when people kick it! Asked head trainer about grading and he seems to think it could be possible for Dec 13 if I apply myself... am out of shape cardiovascularly but it wont be long to summer break and then everyone comes back out of shape! Removed 6 books from my collection and donated for a fundsraising stall. Got mini dumbbell and grip strengthener from sports store for my rehab. Glad I didn't have to start on .5kg weights as they are bright pink! Burrito with too much chili and onion and gluten gave me a little heartburn. Today I woke up with a headache that was throbbing through the middle of the day. Had hoped drugs and walk in morning would help but, no. Somewhat eased now with lots of pain killers (and less noisy kids). Moving truck and a couple of blokes booked as I am injured and Dad is feeling the ravages of time these days (He's nearly 70). Looking forward to the weekend! Quote Aussie Bush Ranger - Training with the Monks'I'll fight but not surrender', cried the wild colonial... WildColonialGrrl
Nice Saturday morning... Parkrun PB of 38.30mins for 5km of huffing and puffing jogging and walking. Need to do something to push cardiovascular system. Then I went to the TKD club and did some practice of my grading stuff. I have started learning the patterns 3 times already this year so they are mostly there. Have started running through the kick sets and step sparring. Hips are tight from walking being main activity but the practice will help loosen things up. Hoping to be ready for the grading but will see how I go with the unsettledness of moving house in the middle of the short time I have left. Maybe I will have to take up Parkata and and run through things in the park as part of my morning walk routine. WildColonialGrrl
Just so those playing at home can follow along, this is what my poor extremity has been through in the last 119 days L to R... although the purple plastic is still a regular bit of protection and the black neoprene still in use on occasion. The current one - for the next month full time and after, who knows - is the bottom right small push brace that supports the thumb and gives my wrist freedom to improve. It's not perfect but it it is the best yet (bar the plaster - the pain relief from finally having the broken bone in one spot way magnificent!). WildColonialGrrl
Thanks! Week 1 wrap up makes me feel like I'm back in the game and hopefully the momentum will continue...Exercise - PT, TKD class, yoga, parkrun & extra TKD practice. 5 walks. Big size WIN! Rehab - a little slow going as I'm treading a fine line between stretch & strengthen and overdoing it just using it for the day. Definite improvement and can now do many more things comfortably! Well being - having done paperwork for new home has helped me relax a bit as has all the extra exercise. Eating hasn't been perfect with shark week approaching but only overeating birthday dinner curry and a bit much cream on scones has made me actually feel bad. Had a nasty cluster headache since Friday morning but it's not my sinuses or neck or tension it's just a fri king annoying cluster headache that won't go fully away with meds so is best ignored as possible. Making me tired though! The move - started with a few books mid week, went nuts last night and today getting 3 years of extra things collected and packed. Have decided to approach this clearing/decluttering with a generosity of spirit as we approach the festive season and hope that this make it easier for a pack rat like me to let go of things that I don't really need and may help others. Currently at 51 items!Happy with this start! 1 Quote Aussie Bush Ranger - Training with the Monks'I'll fight but not surrender', cried the wild colonial... WildColonialGrrl
Nice. How will you cope in a more urban environment?Plenty of reasons to leave the car behind! Hand should be almost at riding bike stage... Well braking, braking is important methinks! I had been urban for a decade or so before this hiatus out where the train only has 1 line - the main concern will be developing a healthy way of being social locally that doesn't involve lots of late nights and alcohol. This week has been a bit underwhelming so far... Shark Week came 4 days early and with unusual lower back pain/spasm. Took about 28 hours to settle so upped my walking as it didn't make it worse but gave TKD a miss. I did some extra work on grading stuff on Saturday so feel somewhat better about it. PT on tues was ok as pain was starting to settle. TKD on wed with lots of grading practice but no yoga tonight as it is my Grandmother's 95 birthday.Learning from last week, I didn't eat too much before the cake and am not suffering discomfort now. I should have said no to the parents horrible cheap sweet white though but I forgot how bad it was! There has been other food I have eaten this week that has caused me gastric distress in a number of ways. Too much junk food makes me feel bad (and have to run to the loo). Reflux and nausea are not my friends!Tomorrow I pick up keys for the new place! Exciting!! (And then catch the train to go watch some football/soccer). Parkrun Saturday morning then moving stuff and maybe some extra TKD training. Not getting the big truck til next weekend but will still need to be careful not to a) hurt my thumb/wrist and get all cluttery!
