LiserFrenche getting serious

Recommended Posts

As I mentioned in my previous challenges I have decided to sign up for a 5K muddy obstacle course challenge called the "Tough Mountain Challenge" to take place in July.  It will require that I be fitter, faster, stronger, leaner and meaner than I am now .  This 6 week challenge will get me closer to this goal. In addition, because of my fascination with Sarah Connor, I will continue my quest to do a chin up/pull-up.

My Main quest: Become fitter and stronger in the next 6 weeks.

I will use the following to gauge my progress:

time to walk 1.8 mile loop, # of push-ups in a minute, # of squats in a minute, time I can hold a plank, # of burpees in a minute, sit and reach and balance and measurements (upper arm, chest, waist, hips, thigh and calf). I'll check in at the 6 week mark.

Quest 1

doing my own version of PLP; ie do push ups, lunges and dumb bell rows every day increasing the reps by one every day (starting at one) and doing the necessary adjustments to maintain good form (such as going from real pushup to incline push ups as necessary).

Grading 6-7 days a week - A, 4-5 days - B, 3-2 days - C, 1 day - D, 0 days - F

Quest 2 Exercise -  15 minutes of movement every day. (Ideally, a 10 min walk and 5 minutes of higher level cardio like a run/walk on the treadmill, but any type of movement).

Grading 6-7 days a week - A, 4-5 days - B, 3-2 days - C, 1 day - D, 0 days - F

Quest 3 Track food intake and exercise and stay below cal targets in MyFitnessPal every day.

Grading 6-7 days a week - A, 4-5 days - B, 3-2 days - C, 1 day - D, 0 days - F

Life Quest:

Set up epic thread including what I consider my level 50.

side quest:  looking at reducing sugar intake.  Couldn't figure out how to make this a doable quest, so decided it would be a good side quest.  For now, I am looking at staying away from sweets. Honey or maple syrup are allowed in my first cup of coffee and one "treat" a day is allowed but only if I "really, really, really, really" want it. In other words, I can have a sweet if the decision to eat it is a decision (as opposed to eating chocolate because I am tired or anxious). Success will be recording if and when I eat something sweet and why.  I don't want to totally abstain since, from past experience, it leads to sugar binging.

I like the goals you have set for this challenge.  It's going to be great to see how much you improve over the next 6 weeks! I saw you said you plan to start at one of each for your starting number.  Do you have a planned number to increase by each day, or will you try to do as many as possible each time you do them? I think you have a great idea with your sugar side quest.  By allowing yourself a snack now and then and making sure you really want it you're going to set up some great habits for later.  Good luck!

Yes, I plan to increase by one each day.  Since my 1 real push up today was pretty lame, I think I will be graduating to incline push ups soon.  It was weird just doing only one of each - I am sure I will feel challenged in a week or two.  Thanks for checking in!

Day 1:  today went well.  I did yoga first thing in the morning, walked at lunch and did a 10 min. run/walk this evening.  I did my  modified PLP 1 pushup, 1 lunge and 1 Row. I tracked what I ate and stayed below my calorie limit. I did well staying away from sweets.

I joined an accountability group and picked my bravery challenge.  My bravery challenge is going on a first date.  I get so nervous during that first meeting, things can go so wrong sometimes.

It will be crazy busy the next few days - I am in meetings all day Wednesday, attending soccer banquet on Thursday night , and heading to New York (near Albany) to bring my daughter on a college visit on Friday/Saturday.  I'll log in the best I can.  If I don't pop in, I'll update my thread when I get a chance. :)

I did not realize the trip would derail me as much as it did.  A bunch of things came into play, being overtired, being busy all day, lack of routine,  my sugar habit, not being able to do things "perfectly".  Yes, Ms. Perfectista is a major saboteur in my life.  I need to start showing her who's boss. :-) Regardless, here I am, and I'll deal with the present.  I went for a walk at lunch (18 min), did 9 inlcine p-ups, 9 lunges and 9 rows.  My daughter has a dance open house tonight.  I'll check in to see what the mini's are and on my lady pirate friends after her dance thing.  TTYL

It is so hard to stay on track when our routines are disrupted! Ms. Perfectista can go jump in a lake. She just wants to sabotage you so you can go eat chocolate. :) A major challenge for me during THIS challenge has been finding a way to forgive myself when I don't do things perfectly, since the last challenge went so well. So I can relate! I still think you're doing really well.

I am hanging in there (though hanging by my hands is something that can use improvement).

Thursday overview - I did 10 incline push ups, 10 lunges, 10 rows; 17 min yoga in the morning; starting working on the cutlass mini challenge - hand grip - 2 times 10 seconds each - YIKES!!!  I hope I don't fall off of a cliff (or the side of a pirate ship in this case) anytime soon, 6 mountain climbers and had already done some rows. I am still playing catch up  - gotta see if there are any mini challenges I was supposed to do for the adventurers.   :pirate:

I have respawned;  I have also been reporting my progress on my battle log.  Although the quests listed in my battle log are a little different than the ones I listed here, I have been doing well my quests listed above.

quick update (sunday, Monday and today)

Q1 - PLP- Sun and today (spaced it yesterday)

Q2- 15 minutes of movement - yes for all three days

Q3- reporting back to MFP and staying below cal limit all three days =) Slowly reconnecting with my friends here as well.

sugar - ugh, well, that one is a little tough.  If I preplan my day and have healthy meals I am less likely to have crappy sweet food.  My biggest treat when I want something sweet is frozen cherries and pineapple which is a healthier alternative to ice cream.

ttyl all
