Maigrey's Challenge #4: Home, Home on the Range(rs).....

Hi everyone! I've been an Adventurer for the last two challenges, but last month I started Crossfit.  I hate the conditioning portion of it (who doesn't), but I love the lifting, and I think I've found a plan that I actually enjoy!

 

So without further adieu...

 

Challenge #4: Home, Home on the Range(rs).....

 

Note: as I will be in Boston Nov 13 - 17th, I am excused from the quests for those days, but all quests restart THE MINUTE I land in Chicago.  No vacation prolonging allowed!

 

Main Goal:  be able to shop at Old Navy and/or Target (and not in the women's section)

 

Quest #1:  Get strong!  I'd like to add muscle while I try and lose weight as well (or at least maintain the muscle I have).  To do this, I will:

  1. Go to Crossfit 3 times per week.  I joined in the middle of october and I love it.  I hate the conditioning but I love learning and we are learning a lot of lifts!  I've even been told I have the makings of an Olympic style lifter

  2. 10 min per day  of ATG squats to improve mobility (not necessarily all at once). I get one rest day per week on this. If I don't do this on a specific day, I need to do 5 squats per minute missed the next day  

 

Quest #2: Eat to fuel my body appropriately. This is generally my sticking point because I love processed carbs.  To do this I will:

  1. Follow "Palegrey" standards.   This is the whole30 approved food lists, with the addition of:

    1. Yogurt

    2. Cottage cheese

    3. Protein powder

    4. Oatmeal

    5. One serving per day of ONE of the following:  Chocolate almond butter, 70% dark chocolate (or greater), Starbucks hot chocolate

    6. Kerry Gold Butter

    7. Salad dressing

    8. Incidental alcohol from things like extracts

  2. I am allowed up to 2 non-Palegrey meals a week, to keep life somewhat sane

  3. Track food every day to make sure I am eating enough

  4. In order to do 1 and 2, I'm going to have to get back in the habit of cooking and prepping. So each week in order to succeed with my goals, I need to:

    1. Plan meals for the week

    2. Go grocery shopping

    3. Do a weekly cookup

 

Life quest #1: Declutter my house, starting with filing for 15 min a day.

  • Every time I do not do this when I am at home, I need to do 5 squats for each minute I did not do this

 

Life quest #2:  Get back to the business of dating, starting with updating my profile.  I need to work on this for 15 min a day, again with the squat penalty. Things that need to be done for my reference:

  1. Update my profile [it is SO OLD]

  2. Go shopping for rejections every day

  3. Look into signing up for other sites

I feel like I "should" tell you to be more positive, but this made me giggle. Also love the squat penalties.

Also...you could do squats/pushups/situps in Boston...just a little tough love for you :-)

Actually, this works a lot better for me - if I have expectations like "go on a date" or find the man, I get all stressed and am likely not to actually do it. This way there isn't any pressure.

I'm going to Boston to see nerds and there will be lifting, but I don't want to stress over anything while there.

Actually, this works a lot better for me - if I have expectations like "go on a date" or find the man, I get all stressed and am likely not to actually do it. This way there isn't any pressure.

I'm going to Boston to see nerds and there will be lifting, but I don't want to stress over anything while there.

 

Just be prepared for the possibility of my deciding you need to do some of your atg squats (flexible enough bottoms permitting because I know pants don't often agree with that - or at least my pants don't). Don't worry, if I make you do it, I'm doing it too.

Goals look good!

I actually like your rejection shopping turn around.  'Dating' scares the hell outta me too.   Hang with a guy? SURE!!!  Go on a date with a guy?  OMG OMG OMG OMG.    Way to word it to change the trigger responses.

Yeah, when I said that to my therapist, she started laughing and then said "that's going to totally work for you, brilliant!"  ... and it did!

2014-11-10 update

 

Quest #1:  Get strong!  

  1. Go to Crossfit: Yes

  2. 10 min per day ATG squats: 10 minutes completed

 

Quest #2: Eat to fuel my body appropriately.  This is generally my sticking point because I love processed carbs.  To do this I will:

  2. Track food: Yes diary here.

  3. Plan meals for the week: Already Done!

  4. Go grocery shopping: Already done!

  5. Do a weekly cookup: Already done!

 

Life quest #1: Declutter for 15 min a day: 15 minutes completed

 

Life quest #2:  15 min/day online dating:  0 minutes completed

 

Penalty Squats Owed: 45

 

Crossfit this morning - did push press and push jerks with the technique master coach. This was the LAST ONE, I have graduated foundations and can move to the normal WODs now. Which is somewhat scary on its own, but it's going to make it easier for me to get 3 workouts a week in as there are more options for the main WOD than the foundations course.

Food was good and I stayed palegrey, even though I regretted putting the chocolate almond butter in my oatmeal because the rest of the day I wanted ALL THE CHOCOLATE and was sad about not having hot chocolate.   Oh, you tricksy little girl, Little Heather....

Filing is done - finished culling out old stuff from the filing cabinets, so tomorrow I can start on actual filing, hooray!

I haven't gotten to updating my profile and I'm exhausted, so hello penalty squats.  I'm going to change this to 3 squats per minute missed because math is hard...

I'm back from Boston!  And other than getting sick on Friday, and falling like 80 times, it was great fun. I'm terrible at writeups, so you should make @risenphoenix finish his.   And, despite not watching what I ate over the weekend, I lost 5 lbs.  And yes, I know the scale lies, and I was so tired when I got home Monday that I had ridiculously little to eat, plus being sick on Friday and not being able to eat much ... but still. 

 

I did a LOT of walking over the weekend, and "lifted" on Friday, which was really mostly HeatherD showing me and StarGazer some moves, and I did get in some of my ATG squats thanks to Greater Tinney and the partner squat, which was hilarious and I need that picture.

 

I did stay paleogrey yesterday which was awesome - I did not get to a workout because of the timing, but I was all set to get to one this morning and .... ridiculous headache, which I still have even after imitrex.  So, i'm giving myself a pass on working out, ATG squats, and filing/rejection shopping for yesterday and today.  Tomorrow, though - it's on like DONKEY KONG or RAPTRONNNNN!

 

2014-11-17 update

Still feeling super woogy, so bailed on crossfit, and the other stuff.  I am slowly getting better so hopefully tomorrow will be a full day.

In other news, I showed up for an appointment a whole day early (Queen of the Dorks still in force), but my carrrrr has also come in! Hooray!

I'm going to see how I feel tomorrow morning and maybe even catch some crossfit in the morning.  ... ugh except it's open gym.  Maybe the 7 pm level 1 class..

 

Hopefully this headachy crap will go away, because I'm tired of feeling like this:
