OCTOBER 24 - DECEMBER 5 CHALLENGE

the challenge

a challenge, you say?

yes, a challenge! we're asking you to take a look at your life and figure out what areas you want to level up. then, you set goals to help you get the EXP needed to get to the next level.

alrighty then, how does this all work?

simple! just follow these easy steps below:

first, look over your life. figure out 3 diet and fitness goals and 1 life levelling goal. the life goal can be in any area you want - finances, organization, bee keeping... whatever you want.

wait, just 3? or can i have more?

you can have as many as you want, but remember the more goals you have, the more overwhelming everything can get, and the more likely you are to fail. its better to be successful at less than to fail at everything, right?

ok, but i don't know how to set goals!

Well, that's fine! We can teach you. First, Steve has a post here:
http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/01/...-goal-setting/

But basically, you want your goals to be SMART - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

So you need to be looking to accomplish something specific (like, say, a push up), you need to be able to measure your progress, it needs to be something you CAN attain (like a weight loss goal of 50lbs in 6 weeks is NOT realistic or attainable, so a bad goal), and timely - it needs to be able to be able to be accomplished in 6 weeks.

Need more help? ask

twist
remember this post:
http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/10/17/fail-more/

Steve has invited everyone to add a failure goal to their challenge. I'm still thinking up mine - but I will add one! :)

ok, i picked my goals, now what!

start your own thread in this forum (the one you're in now, here: http://nerdfitness.com/community/forumdisplay.php?116-6-Week-Challenge-October-24-to-December-5)

take a photo and starting measurements. you dont have to post the photo, but it keeps you more accountable that you do.

then, every day (or however often you want, but its more successful if you do it every day) update your thread with your progress.

at the end of the challenge, you'll give yourself a grade on how you did, and we'll pick a winner out of everyone!

oh. but that sounds like it requires work.

not going to lie. it does. and it can be hard, but in the end, it's worth it, i promise

can i get help? what about everyone else?

everyone else will be posting their threads. feel free to post any helpful advice or encouragement you may have to anyone!

so go - create your threads and encourage your fellow challengers!

mini challenges
we will be having weekly mini challenges starting the second half of week one. the idea is that everyone in the challenge does the same thing that week - these could be anything. they are not required, but are a lot of fun and encouraged. more info to come

pvp/pve challenges
in this section, you can challenge either one other single challenger or everyone in the challenge to an awesome feat.

examples of previous challenges:
first one to a pullup
bike the most miles
music challenge (everyone post their own music)

what if the challenge takes more than 6 weeks?
thats fine, just let me know and i can move it to the forum for the next challenge

squads!

ok, what's a squad?

a squad is a group of people with similar interests who work together towards achieving their goals. think of it as a little team. basically - we know its pretty hard to keep track of EVERY person's challenge, so we're breaking it up into smaller groups. That way, you keep track of your squad member's progress throughout the challenge, and they keep track of yours - holding everyone more accountable.

what are the requirements for being in a squad?

you need to at least update your progress and grade yourself every week. if you don't update for 2 weeks, you're out.

how many members are there per squad?
up to 12. if more than 12 sign up, we'll split equally.

if a squad loses members and it gets to under 6, we may combine squads as we see fit.

sounds great! but i work better alone. do i have to be in a squad?

no, no you don't. but if you don't, you're losing out on a valuable part of the challenge.

ok, ok. i want in. how do i sign up for a squad?
after you create your challenge thread, go here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhwUPKtF79S8dFhROW0zaWVSTkhfVWR0QThnZy1PMHc&hl=en_US

NOTE: this is a PUBLIC SPREADSHEET. be nice to it. if you have any questions on how to use it, send me a message. ill be backing it up as much as i can remember, but be nice to it, hm

if you look at the bottom, there is a different sheet in the document (very bottom, underneath the spreadsheet, youll see tabs ) for every squad. i've created a few basic squads. click on the one you want (descriptions are on each sheet) and sign up. . You can even create your own squads and recruit members if you want. I don't care

any other questions?
ask away, im sure i missed something Edited by spezzy

Can't wait to rock this challenge! Quick question, are we supposed to post squads in the PvP/PvE/Group Challenges forum section or somewhere else? :)

Didn't get te google doc system, besides the Rules, everything is empty in there, i don't see any squads, names or anything...

edit: i see only the squad names like "running squad", but once i click, it's all clear and empty...

I've been looking through the threads and am seeing quite a few people posting about 'grading'.

I imagine that's a measure of their success, but... are there rules/guidelines about grading?

Also, looks like the Weight Loss Squad is popular! We're up to 16 members already X3
