Schmopey
I joined Nerd Fitness in February of 2013 after having decided that I needed to get into a shape other than very round. Last year was pretty great from a fitness point of view: by mid October I was down to 206Lbs from the 276 the scale was reading in January. I then decided I wanted to get stronger and began eating more. I managed a combined total of 820Lbs for the Salubrious Spring Strength Skirmish, which isn't too bad for a guy nearing 40 who had only been lifting for about 15 months and had a hernia repaired 3 months before the competition. Unfortunately, this year has not been so great at least not the past 5-6 months. My weight got up to near 260, and I had stopped going to the gym. It's time to get back on track. Let's get started with this deflabulation! The Plan: Get back in the gym: I've been doing SL 5x5, so I'll get back to that. Watch what goes in the pie hole: I'll get back in the habit of tracking consumption on MFP (link in my sig). Get the dog some exercise, too: take the dog for at least 2 runs a week of at least 2 miles each. Become a rock star: I am finally learning how to play a guitar I've owned for 20 years; need to practice at least 30 minutes at least 5 days a week. This challenge is predominately about getting back into good habits, so success will be determined by how consistent I am. I should get back to work. Monday evening, I had my wife take a look at my back, as I had noticed a very tender spot and wanted to be sure I wasn't developing a boil. This morning I realized that it was barbell induced. I guess that's what happens when you let the back flab get soft then hit it with 160lb squats. Music lessons are tonight, so I squeezed 20 minutes of practice in this morning. The DNA test we had done says she's got rottweiler, boxer, and setter in her genes along with other indeterminate varieties. She is definitely not taxed by my pace. I happened to awaken in the early morning and checked the clock expecting to see 2 something, because I thought the alarm was set for 4:30. The clock read 4:34. Did the extra sets of 15 squats and 10 rows 'cause the world won't save itself. No extra bench, since I hope to crank out some pushups (that may be sheer folly). Weight was down a good bit from Monday as expected, but the silly $10,000 dollar scale has my body fat consistently going up. Schmopey
Saturday, Week 2: Wasn't as sore as I had feared I'd be. My hammies are a bit tight, as are the ad- and abductors when I get near the end ROM of squatting. Decided to do some active recovery and went running with the pooch, ~3.4mi. in ~43 minutes. Not 100% certain because I realized at my normal 5 minute mark that RunKeeper wasn't tracking. I accidentally double tapped at the beginning which paused it, so only 3.00mi in 37:59 was tracked.
