Silmarilliane's Fourth Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Last challenge I embarked on an epic point scoring system involving multiple combination forumlas in excel. As exciting as this was, it led to some lack in motivation on certain days and a general fail towards the end where I felt I didn't deserve the score and sabotaged to make it more accurate. That's a completely normal thing to do right? right?!

Aaaaanyway... I completed my third challenge with a grade C, and lost 4lbs, several centimetres (pretty much all on my boobs... thanks for that) and walked over 170 miles.

My life quest again is to de-flab my fab self. I have to say that I did squeeze myself into a (ahem VERY stretchy) pair of size 10 skinny jeans the other day. They were snake skin pattern. oh yes.

Goals for this challenge:

Stick within calories: I attempted averaging out cals last week and it just led to over eating, so I'm going back to mfp lightly active, 1lb a week and adding exercises. I'm going to allow myself a bit of flexibility this time, so I'm allowed to go over cals six times over the course of the challenge, and four of those are allowed to be non-counting days. I'm really hoping this means I'll stick to it on the other days.

Walking: I've given up counting up to Mordor as I realised it would take several years and I got sick of counting miles every time I walked. My journey to work usually involves a mile walk to the station, another mile at the other end and the same home (so 20 lots of mile walks). To pass this section I have to do at least 15 of these walks per working week.

My PLP Challenge: So my version of this will be Press-ups, Plank and Dumbbell rows as follows:

Week 1: 15 press ups, 35 sec plank, 15 dumbbell rows

Week 2: 20, 40, 20

Week 3: 25, 45, 25

Week 4: 30, 50, 30

Week 5: 35, 55, 35

Week 6: 40, 60, 40

and I have to do these EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Weights and Cardio: to keep myself doing other stuffs, I have to do at least one cardio workout a week (usually zumba), and also have to do a full total body dumbbell workout at least twice a week.

Scoring will be a lot vaguer this time round (sorry all point fans), so I'll do a summary each week and then scoring at the end.

Silmarilliane xx

HELLO SUSIE-COME-LATELY. I've been waiting for you to show up.

Awesome challenge, I know the pain of points. So much measuring and counting and it gets super tired but you've made awesome progress with your 4lb of boob fat. Which leads me to question what your exercise was but I suspect this:

^ Huge congratulations on this! Size 10! I saw on MFP your total loss today and it's an amazing achievement so excellent work on that too. What size were you when you started? Also, pics of the snakeskin jeans please. They sound far too Bon Jovi to miss!

I know right; we had a team building day at work so no internets for me. Turns out my social style is a driver, who knew?

Ooh, that's why all the weight had fled there, all the sassing at zumba!

Mmm, Bon Jovi... Will definitely get a pic of them :)

I was a size 18-20 and just under 200lb at my heaviest, my old profile pics on MFP have a pic of me around then.

Yeay to new challenging :D xx

so week 1 went ok, i stayed within calories except friday which was t'other half's birthday. managed to be stupid with the walking thing though as monday was a work away day which involved minimal walking and i had friday off. i think i covered it with the 10 mile hike i did on saturday though so i'm not knocking myself down anything.

pressup-plank-dumbbellrow challenge going goods and i moved up to 20-40-20 today

i did zumba on tuesday and friday so that's the cardio done

weights... i think i'm going to have to rethink this one as i just don't seem to have the time to fit in that whole routine. i'm going to change it to any additional dumbbell stuff is a bonus but doesn't score me anything either way.

once again, apologies for being hardly present :(

I set myself a little side quest actually - we have a staff roof garden where I work (which has awesome views over london town). It's on the fifth floor and each lunch I'm doing a 10-15 minute walk followed by walking the stairs up to the garden and back down.

I'm also taking a photo from the same spot every day, but that's just for fun :)

hardly anyone uses the garden as well - 3,500 staff and the most i've seen is five people at any one time. usually only one or two.

That sounds really lovely, how high up is it?

it's sort of between five and six storeys high, though it's listed as level 7 (where I work, level 2 is ground floor...) but the road slopes so the end with the garden has a half storey before you get to level 2. nice and confusing :)

So last week was really busy but managed to only get the bus twice, making 18 total walk sections so a pass there.

Calories were all under except yesterday when I was doing a show so I didn’t count as my lunch was odds and sods of snacks. So that means I’ve had two of my six days allowed over (one of which being non counting)

PLP (PPD-R) challenge is going well, mainly because I have a reminder set on my phone a few minutes after my alarm. I was on 20-40-20 last week and have started 25-45-25 this week. I had to take a small break after 30 seconds of the plank this morning, I think mainly due to tiredness (got home gone midnight last night after the show and was up at 6:45 this morning)

Extra cardio – Zumba on Tuesday but nothing else specifically, though due to the show yesterday, I spent 8 hours in the hall on Saturday setting up set, lights, sound, chairs and techy stuff so I think I’ll let myself off not going for a half hour run!

So last week was ok to start with, but then I went out for work drinks on Thursday (my planned 'over cals' day), and the hangover Friday meant I ate too much that day as well. Then got the cold that's been surrounding me at work and rehearsals for the last month (I'm guessing the alcohol knocked down my immune system), so I pretty much ate too much the whole weekend. Not too much over on Saturday but Sunday I finished the day with half a tub of phish food...

However, I carried on my PLP challenge successfully and did Zumba on Tuesday and had a run on Saturday. I also managed to run the whole five flights of stairs to the roof garden on Friday.

Am contemplating switching up to maintennance calories while I'm down with the sickness as shifting a cold on low cals isn't fun.

So last week was pretty rubbish calorie wise, in that I stopped logging for pretty much the whole week. My excuse was that I have a cold and therefore should be eating more, but I don't think that should be more chocolate and cakes...

On a brighter note I carried on with my plp challenge and also am doing well with the walking goal.

Christmas times are so difficult to eat properly.

Soooo.... this challenge has been a bit of a fail. I blame Jesus. well, Christmas anyway. Not at all my fault...

Calorie counting pretty much went out the window. I think I logged maybe 3 days in the last two weeks (after trying to respawn)

One thing I've actually been successful at is the press-up/plank/dumbbell row challenge, which I did complete every single day and means that I've done 825 press-ups, 825 dumbbell rows and 1475 second (just under 24 minutes) of plank!

Due to this last point, I'm not going to write the whole thing off as a complete failure (grade U) but will give myself an N (which is a real thing as I got it for a-level maths!)

This means I'll move on to the next level but with my head hung in shame. Here's to the new challenge in the new year! :D

Urgh, christmas does that to a person doesn't it? Too many christmas markets and office parties and mince pies and chocolate and cherry flavoured cream (this is most definitely a thing because it is in my fridge right now, unlike your N which I am sure is a figment of your imagination).

Yay for levelling up! And not utterly crapping out like I did!
