AugustaAdaByron's (Ada's) Balancing Act

Recommended Posts

I've been feeling down lately and I've been trying to ignore it but it isn't working. Today I could barely concentrate at work and I'm far behind on what I should have finished. I was hoping for a good training session tonight but that didn't happen either. I recorded all lifts and my form on deadlifts was horrible on any set other than the warm-up.

*hug* Sorry you've been feeling down... take care of yourself, and we're here if you need us. Do you have any support (i.e., people to talk to) in your new home? Try not to beat yourself up about the lifts--no need to add another source of stress.

I had to look up zombie squats--I'll have to give those a try at some point!

Horrible day in general. The fact that the gym was so crowded that there was no fresh air but only the smell of sweat during the first hour until the a/c started working didn't help at all.

Workout from Tuesday 3/3/2015

Hyperextensions x10 supersetted with 45s planks x3

Overhead Pause Squats

I had to use a different spot at the gym and a different bar than the one I normally use to do squats. That combined with Overhead Pause Squats turned out to be a disaster. The first bar I took was too short and I couldn't get into correct form, no lockout of my arms and the bar was hovering over my head. I did a couple of reps, figured out there was no way I could use that bar and stopped to take another one.

With the other bar it went like this. I did one set at 15kg.

15kg        x10 (+2 not paused).  I'm pretty sure that the pauses were not as long as they were supposed to be in that or in any other set.

Then went for another set at 15kg. (I was supposed to do 15kg x10x3) I did about 3 reps before the bar started hovering over my head again and the 4th rep wasn't even close to parallel.

I removed all weights from the bar and did.

10kg        x10

Then I added the 1.25kg plates and did.

12.5kg     x10

A lot of wrist discomfort during the overhead squats.

Squats

25kg        x10 (figured since I had already done a few sets of overhead squats I wouldn't start with the bar)

35kg        x5

40kg        x5

45kg        x5x5 (somewhere during the last set you could breathe at the gym again)

55kg        x3x2

Squats went as they were supposed to go.

Deadlifts from above knee

50kg        x5x5

60kg        x3x2

Deadlifts went surprisingly good. No effort at all.

Bench Press

20kg        x10

27.5kg     x5

32.5kg     x5x5

37.5kg     x1 (+1 with help from the spotter)

37.5kg     x1 with help from the spotter

37.5kg     x1 with help from the spotter

DB Chest supported row   11kg x10x4

Workout from Saturday 7/3

Hyperextensions x10 supersetted with 45s planks x3

Zombie Pause Squats

15kg                 x10x3

Squats

20kg                 x10
30kg                 x10
40kg                 x5
45kg                 x5x5
55kg                 x3x2

Halting Deadlifts (2 sec pause below knee x2, full deadlift x1)

35kg                  x2
45kg                  x2x5
50kg                  x2x2

I added one extra plate under the loaded barbell and it finally reached the height that it would have if it was loaded with the "correct" plates. I miss the bouncy bumper plates though, they're half the fun of deadlifts. :( But at least my back looks a lot better now! :D

Bench Press

20kg                  x10
25kg                  x5
30kg                  x5x5
35kg                  x3x2
35kg                  x2 (that was supposed to be x3)

Press ups 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 4

Prone rows 7, 7, 7, 7, 3

Workout from Thursday 12/3

Hyperextensions x10 supersetted with 45s planks x3

Pause Goblet Squats

13kg                 x10     (warm-up, not paused)
21kg                 x10x3

Pause Squats (with my stance as wide as for the goblet squats)

20kg                 x10     (warm-up, not paused)
30kg                 x10     (warm-up, not paused)
35kg                 x5       (warm-up, not paused)
40kg                 x5x5
45kg                 x3x2

Feet Up Pause Bench

20kg                 x10     (warm-up, not paused)
25kg                 x5
27.5kg              x6x5
32.5kg              x3x3   (it was supposed to be 3 sets of 4 but compared to last time's feet up pause bench, not bad over all)

Lat Pulldown

4                       x10     (that felt too easy so I thought I'd increase the weight)
6                       x10x4 (there was no level between 4 and 6 and while I could feel my upper back working I wasn't exactly bringing the bar to my collarbone after the 4th-5th rep)

DB Shoulder Press

7kg                   x10x4  (felt easier than last time)

And there's clearly something wrong with the universe because I've been happy with two workouts in a row!

Workout from π Saturday 14/3

Hyperextensions x10 supersetted with 45s planks x3

Wall Squats

8kg                   x20x4 (awkward cardio)

Zombie Pause Squats

15kg                 x10x3  (felt easy and the bar wasn't slipping, also I found out that the bar I used last time weighs at least 5kg more than the ones I usually use so the Zombie Pause Squats of Tuesday were at least 25kg)

Squats

20kg                 x10
30kg                 x10
40kg                 x5
47.5kg              x5x5
57.5kg              x3x2 (those went easier than the 47.5kg ones and easier than I expect in general)

Halting Deadlifts (2 sec pause below knee x2, full deadlift x1)

47.5kg               x2x5
52.5kg               x2x2

There may have been some back rounding on these sets. My legs felt barely functional during the deadlifts.

Bench Press

20kg                  x10
25kg                  x5
30kg                  x5x5
32.5kg               x3x3

Press ups 9, 6, 6, 6, 5

Prone rows 10, 9, 7, 6

Both prone rows and press ups felt and went better than last time!
