iRyan2015
Hello all.Whenever I perform body-weight dips, my hands HURT. LIKE. HELL. Not like callous after you literally give yourself friction burn from holding weights, but just blunt pain from my weight sitting on them. It feels like they're going to just break, literally. The area which my thumb is attached to primarily, which has a name I'm sure. My grip strength is just fine,I'd rather not use gloves to fix that. What might I do to help with hand pain with dips?Only dips. They don't hurt on bench presses, push-ups, or anything else that might have me set a large amount of weight directly on the palms. mosiermandias
are you doing them like on a pole or posts? experiment on that. If you are comfortable with push ups try blocks. I made my own dip bars out of 4x4's and they work really great for me. You might also can try wrist wraps for support? Quote Link to comment
iRyan2015
Wraps might work. I'll try those out.I failed to mention that my hands hurt during hanging dips, not bench dips. kirstenanke
I've got exactly the same problem, I do my dips in the gym on poles and the ball of my right hand (going straight down from my ring finger) really hurts, to the point that I have to stop even though strength wise I could keep going... jfreaksho
It sounds like you are putting your weight on the web of your hand, the soft tissue between your thumb and hand. Don't do this. Put the weight on the heel of your hand. Use your bones to support your weight, not your soft tissue. Quote Searching the world for a cure for my wanderlust. Link to comment
Meteoric
I got this for a while. It went away on its own soon enough, so partly it might just be an issue of your hands getting used to it? If it's been more than a few sessions and it still hurts, feel free to ignore this post. dijos
you can rotate your hand, too. depending on the dip station I use at the gym, I'll either use "correct form" i.e. holding the bar handle, or, slightly rotated where my hand is more open and the handle is kind of parallel to my index finger and the handle splits the heel of my hand. 1 Quote I realize I have an unhealthy attachment to my jump rope. TRX opened my eyes to new levels of discomfort. Link to comment
