Saturday:

Long run, handstands, abortive attempt at C25K with Flyer who is still injured, and a Portuguese conversation lesson, also with Flyer.

Sunday:

Swimming, minimal Portuguese, rehashing yesterday's lesson, and too much food (post-valentine date-night).

This has been a really successful 6 weeks, but I need to guard against feeling like it's over since I am still building up to the half M in a week's time.

Today was a short run with Flyer who is still a bit injured so we didn't push it to the max. I think I need to give her some extra days to heal but she keeps telling me she's better, and then ten minutes in.... Ah well, better too keen than not keen enough, I suppose. Or at least, it's an easier problem to deal with!

Oh and 167 press-ups, making up to some extent for all the awful, hideous, delicious, lovely things I ate on our date night and at breakfast.

No Portuguese yet but I've got a streak to maintain, so....

I clocked up a small amount of cardio today in the form of a long cycle ride to work but from here on I won't even be doing that, since I need to rest the legs for the weekend. In the evening I did a very arm-intensive workout involving assisted pull-ups, OHP, press-ups, rows and curls. Rawr!

Spoiled it all by finishing off a half-full bag of fruit pastilles left over from a trip to the cinema.

Ah well.

I'm excited about the race this weekend but I hope the shoes hold out. There are about four big holes in them. I can't really afford to replace them. Maybe now is the time to try barefoot again!

Wow, those have seen some serious miles. Barefoot sounds fun actually. Since I will likely not be able to do any significant barefoot running, would you do it for me? haha

I might have to run it in flippers, actually. There have been very high Tides here lately and the Thames burst it's banks in Richmond yesterday and flooded some roads to about three feet depth.

The half M is on the Thames Towpath. So....

Well, the half went OK. I was well shy of my PB, but I laid down some good kicks, didn't stop running and was only in the actual pain cave for about the last 3 or 4 miles! So that's the end of my 7-week challenge, and now here's my wrap-up.
 

Run 
 
... and crosstrain generally. Basically, do something every day. It's the only kind of routine I understand. It'll be one long run, one short run, plus a lot of other cardio, core and strength work, basically. I'll be making a spreadsheet so you know I mean it.

I took a couple of rest days due to illness or injury but basically, smashed this one as no goal has ever been smashed before. Gained a lot of my stamina back, lost a lot of post-Christmas weight and increased my strength to the point at which I can now do a pull-up again for the first time since my op a year and a half ago. A+

Form Alliances
 
I need to be less reclusive with other people around me. I don't want to be too prescriptive about this but I resolve that in the 6 weeks I will - on at least 3 occasions - say "yes" when i would otherwise say "no" to things people (co-workers, acquaintances, squad-mates) want to do together providing it doesn't (a) involve excessive quantities of booze and cake or ( B) contradict my marriage vows*

Met - I was much less timid and actually a reasonable simulacrum of a functioning, social human being. A

Don't Be a Headcrab Zombie
 
It's a known fact that headcrabs can't enslave your mind if you fortify it with Portuguese verb conjugations.

Done every day, in good volume and high quality. A

Enter Another Dimension
 
Handstands

Lots of practice, and now finding a reasonably balance at the top. True stability eludes me, but I'm getting there. B

Clear Debt
...oh well, I've already got two lifestyle goals so maybe I'll just leave this one off the menu, eh? It'll get a bit dull.

Not really a goal but we're doing OK, somehow, despite still wasting a lot of money on thrown-away food and frivolities. I made a little chart with a mountain (of debt) and Flyer drew a picture of us all in climbing gear and we are now well up into the foothills.
 
I realise now that I didn't actually assign att points to these, so let me arbitrarily say

Training: +3 Sta, +3 Str

Friendliness: +3 Cha

Portuguese: +3 Wis

Handstands: +2 Dex

 

That's 14 out of a possible 15, with teh handstands being the weakest of the set but otherwise this is the best one I've done since the Superhero Smackdown which must have been a good two years ago, I think, and god, did I ever need to get my mojo back!
