First 5x5 workout accomplished! How's everyone else doing? Report! :)

ummm well I'm working night-shift tonight sooooo slept mostly. Though I DID make myself get up and make some soup so I wouldn't have an excuse to swing through drive through on the way to work (even though the evil in my head was trying REALLY hard to make me not do it). Already have crazy sugar cravings (it's gotta be all in my head though, seriously we're not 24 hours into this thing!), sucked on a few little dark chocolate chips to quiet that monster down, and save me from running to the vending machine at work tonight.

Day off, so spent most of it working on strapping my basement ceiling and working on bulkheads. Also, my brother came over and we started rewiring the basement to suit my reno.

 

Guess that was my workout for today! <G>

Workout one complete! I thought I was going to have so much trouble with my standard weight on the dumbbells (25 each), but I was surprised when I could finish all the sets/reps :) Meals today were simple, spinach omelet for lunch and chicken for dinner with a few strawberries as snack. Good start to the challenge!

Just got done with my first workout of this challenge. Stepping things up a bit by adding in some weights (only biceps curls at this point, but I'm already feeling things) to the routine I started with during my first challenge.

Looks like a successful first challenge day for the Fanatics! :D Now everyone go have some tea or something, a hot bath or shower, and go get rested. 

 

All we have to do tomorrow is repeat today's good decisions, and that's win #2. ^_^

Oh HAI everyone.

 

 

So how accountability groups or 'accountabilibuddy' groups work is where people use this as a 'hub' of sorts to either update how you are doing, to see how others are doing, and to check out other people's threads.  I've found that the more I was checking with others, the more motivated I stayed to work on myself.

 

However, there is a very important thing to remember. Never compare yourself to others. We're all at a different point in a weightloss journey.  With that being the case, if you miss a workout while someone else does theirs, don't feel like you 'failed' at all. All that matters is that you keep pushing forward.  Starting off full of vitality is great and all, but it's the long term wins that matter and those only work if you try your best each day.  This is NOT a sprint. This is a grueling marathon; so make sure you pace yourself.

 

 

As for how I'm doing, I worked a short day, then came home and I ate my buffalo chicken with a steamfresh bag of green beans so far.  My best friend Orlando is supposed to come over and we're going to be playing some Left 4 Dead, talking about all the relationship drama that I'm going through, and *possibly* getting some chinese food. I purposely ate the chicken/beans a few minutes ago. That way I'll be less tempted. I'll probably get a couple of spring rolls and that will be it since I'm currently still full.  Part of my plan.  My goal is to stick with 99% whole 30 unless I'm socializing.  When I do socialize, I can't go overboard.  Since I don't socialize that much; I'm figuring that I can still make significant progress on 'non-social' days, and 'break even' if I have something small on social days.

 

I also did a short walk last night. Maybe 15-20 minutes. I also tried meditating.  I walked to the playground at 8pm and I checked my phone to time my meditation. I took deep breaths and let my mind wander. I tried to not think about anything specific.  I think on some work days, doing the playground walk+meditation will work out pretty well. On non-work days, I'll try to take a longer walk (3+ miles) with my dog for exercise purposes.  My blister on my left foot is killing me though today. I need to stay off my feet until I take my playground walk.

Even today which was my rest day was enjoyable and much needed (muscles are sore from the workouts) I walked home from work which may not seem like much, but it was good exercise in less pleasant weather (got to -40C this morning). I am enjoying cooking dinner, but my aunt is not really supportive which makes things stressful sometimes. When I hear "You don't eat potatoes, rice, bread, pasta anymore? What kind of diet are you on? You don't eat carbs, but you eat them from the other things". I had no idea what "other things" she meant, but I was too annoyed to ask. Does anyone know how to deal with people who don't support your lifestyle change? I have explained it to her, but she either doesn't like that I don't eat most things we usually have or she thinks I'm using it as an excuse to avoid things I dislike. (Sorry, don't mean to be a downer here).

Anyway, on a happy note, cooking skills are leveling up! I made stuffed flank steak for dinner tonight (which was new to everyone) and it turned out nicely! Nearly everything I am making this week is a new recipe which is exciting for everyone.

I walked home from work which may not seem like much, but it was good exercise in less pleasant weather (got to -40C this morning). I am enjoying cooking dinner, but my aunt is not really supportive which makes things stressful sometimes. When I hear "You don't eat potatoes, rice, bread, pasta anymore? What kind of diet are you on? You don't eat carbs, but you eat them from the other things". I had no idea what "other things" she meant, but I was too annoyed to ask. Does anyone know how to deal with people who don't support your lifestyle change? I usually ignore them, why waste energy trying to please everyone? But then again I'm old and bitter!

Tell people that those food items have been making you feel ill/bloated lately, so you're trying to cut them out to feel healthier. That usually works. Or tell them to shut up, which is usually my tactic (but I'm an asshole).

 

Today is... cold.

 

Yeah, that's about it. Cold.

Is that... could that possibly be... a NEGATIVE sign in front of the 40?!?  Are you kidding?!?! Do you have to do jumping jacks while you sleep just so your heart doesn't freeze?

 

--- The non-supportive loved ones are a challenge.  Staci has had a couple of good posts for strategies.  My favorite one that kind of shuts the questions/skepticism pretty fast is to spin some kind of "this is on the advice of my physician" tale.

haha, no but you know it's that cold when you go to bed in fleece pants, socks, and 5 blankets and wake up in the morning with all of them still on

It's finally a little warmer today and it looks like the cold snap finally ended (only -25 right now). No jumping jacks while sleeping but when awake, I usually sit right in front of my small heater for most of my down time lol. Workout went well today and I get  little extra exercise shoveling the driveway from all the snow that fell last night. Time to put on some music, bundle up and have fun (I like shoveling snow).

 

Thank you all for the advice on how to deal with those that are not supportive (though it is slightly difficult to ignore when she lives with us). Still, it's my decision to improve my life and she doesn't have a say :)

I can't even imagine -25...Our pharmacy got down to 8C and I was dying xD

 

First derby practice back after Christmas, excellent practice was excellent! Super sore now of course, but still doing yoga. Plus eating right still, so yay :)

 

So far this challenge is going pretty well :)

Computer's back up! For those of you not keeping up this has been a fun week! Two cars KO'd for repairs and my hard drive failing all within days of one another. Bleh.

 

Been chugging along and doing great. I've been speaking with Teros a wee bit about writing some random story to keep you lot entertained but nothing as of yet. (Don't want to step on his story's toes).

 

Beyond that just getting ready for a trip to Florida at the end of the month so that'll be the big bending point of the challenge (at least with the diet).

 

Closing on the end of week 1 keep pushing!
